Where the foxes caper unmolested, the government packs your school lunch and the future is firewood;
New homes should be banned from connecting to the gas grid within six years to tackle climate change, UK government advisers say.
They want new-build homes in the countryside to be warmed by heat pumps – and cooking done on induction hobs, rather than using gas boilers and hobs.
In cities, new housing estates and flats should be kept warm by networks of hot water, says the report.
The water could be heated by waste heat from industry.
An alternative approach is to use heat pumps, which draw warmth from the sea or lakes; or burn gas from waste.

The insanity ramps up.
more senoirs will freeze to death and open up housing for rapfugees!
From the article:
“They are dismayed that emissions from housing suddenly increased last year, when they should be going down.
The housing emissions mainly came from heating boilers – a little-discussed source of greenhouse gases.”
Should be going down indeed…so cold weather continues to occur. Who’da thunk it.
The government’s so-called advisors should have their homes removed from the gas grid immediately to set an example for the rest of us.
Why do they keep bringing in people from countries where they don’t have to heat homes? Bringing in people from shithole countries trebles their carbon footprint.
Suzuki’s dream of peoplekind moving back to log cabins and agrarian technology-free lives is happening. I bet he’s giggling from his $8millon mansion in Kitsilano far from where the poor bastards his anti-progress ideology is condemning to much shorter much less comfortable lives.
When will people wake up to this insanity and fire up the guillotines?
Forty percent of the planet’s wood harvested annually goes to heat and cook, mostly in third world subsistence-level regimes. The UK is a world leader in green theocracy and is well on the road to compelling their citizens in joining them.
Actually, I heard that one of their “green energy” electrical power plant is powered by wood pellets. Apparently the annual wood requirements for this is equivalent to cutting down tree the area of Toronto. But since trees grow back, it is considered a “renewable”. Not making this up. Remember the time when granolas used to chain themselves to trees? Now they are burning them.
JB, https://www.pri.org/stories/2018-06-20/uk-s-move-away-coal-means-they-re-burning-wood-us
Britain imports 3 million tons of wood pellets from the U.S., and there is a lot of controversy as to whether all the wood they use is waste.
I read an article a couple of years ago claiming the pellet makers were clearing hardwood forests in SE USA to make into pellets. Don’t have the link to it,though.
It is the Drax power plant, the largest coal plant in the UK. And the wood pellets are shipped from the US.
What the trees or granolas?????
UK = shithole. Oh boy did Britannia ever died quickly… The sun never sets on the British shithole.
Looks like Churchill got what he asked for, though he certainly didn’t mean it the way it is turning out: Even if it’s still called by the name Britain, England, or whatever a thousand years after, WWII was their finest hour. It’s been fast downhill with very little slowing down ever since. If my parents had been terrible in that role (they weren’t) I’d still owe them endless gratitude for the fact that they got out (1957) and created and raised me in Canada. But the same social disease has taken root here and we are few who recognize it.
Similar circumstances for me Tooner… my folks immigrated in ’53 and I immigrated from TO to BC in ’71. (BC in those days was pretty good with an abundance of opportunity).
Now I’m biding my time till the Alberta election results to make my next move.
Don Morris…I believe Pinnacle Pellet up in the Cariboo sells pellets to Drax (UK).
I see tons of clear cut poplar in their log yard on the way up to Prince George.
Maybe they could burn plastic straws for heat?
theres a thought.
whats the plastic straw number up to now? 183 billion per week?
https://nypost.com/2018/07/02/banning-plastic-straws-is-more-scam-than-science/
apparently an accurate number doesnt even matter.

“I think if it were another number, it still illustrates the fact that there is room for reduction. That’s really my message.”
Starting to sound like a broken letter here but we are all to blame for the mess we are in today and no-one has the backbone to address it. For the last hundred years or so we in the West have been sending foreign aid to areas in the world that cannot sustain themselves. This aid has meant that these areas that could not naturally provide for the indigenous population was inadvertently allowed to artificially expand the population well beyond the Wests ability to increase the foreign aid to provide for the larger numbers of population. As a result the surplus populations in these areas are now migrating in many cases unobstructed and as a result the Western society that has created this problem will be overwhelmed and we will all be the poorer for it. The Carbon tax/Globull Warming scam is the placebo that is being forced on us to eventually accept our reduced standard of living. Birth rates in the West is below replacement rates, whereas birth rates in most Third world countries is two to three times replacement rates. The West’s compassion will be its downfall.
Will Bono and his ilk admit their stupid “We are the World” caused a great deal of this death control but little birth control so the population grew exponentially.
Haha what a country of useless cull-dicks.
My wood stove burned for 12 hours on Monday. I also ran my genny an hour for its monthly exercise while I cooked chicken on my Weber charcoal BBQ.

As long as the watermelon alliance of BC is in power, anything to “decarbonize” is on the table, no mater how detrimental to the economy.
M in BC, yes, they’re telling us we should convert to electrical heat, produced by windmills,I suppose.
My house is heated by a natural gas furnace, costs me about $46 per month. My son’s condo, less than half the area of my house, is heated by electricity, costs him about $110 per month.
Those who own big houses are going to be getting hit with $400 per month electric heating Bills, or higher. Typical of the socialist mindset that they never consider the consequences of their actions, just KNOW that “something has to be done!!”.
In order to AFFORD my outlandish THIRD-TIER PG&E rate PUNISHMENT … my thermostat is set to 62 deg. F most of the day. I’m fkcuing FREEZING in my CA home. Yes, it does get to be sub-freezing in my neighborhood. BUILD MORE fossil-fuel Power Plants NOW !!! I was BORN into a 1st world country … I refuse to DIE in a 3rd world shithole !!
And we think our Conservatives in Canada are leftists.
Heat pumps are electric. Where would all this electricity come from. Moonbeam panels. My house gas versus electric bills are 4:1 in favour of gas. 80,000 bthu`s/$1.00 compared to 20,000 Bthu`s/$1.00 for electricity. I do not know where they think they would obtain a heat pump with a COP of 4:1. and that is just consumption before the additional capital cost.
Central District heating systems died out for a reason. The Soviets were big on this concept. Utter failure but it satisfied their lust for central planning, central systems.
Tell that to Ottawa, lol. A pant-load of Gov. buildings are heated by a central plant.
Have you noticed that most Shopping Plazas being built today are just parking lots with a lot of standalone buildings. There is a reason. No more Eaton Centres or Ed. Malls, too expensive to operate and maintain. The heat pump systems work but you must crunch the numbers. No gas available then maybe Propane but if the capital installation costs are high the payback period could be twenty years at which time the unit itself requires replacing. Those compressors have been working their heart out year round.
Similar thing with instant domestic hot water units. Insulate your tank and if electric you are probably losing about $100 a year but if the installation and equipment cost for a tankless unit is say $3500 then there is no acceptable payback.
Central heating systems? Yes, they still have them when we were in Ukraine and Russia in 2008 and during the Soviet times people had to wear coats in their apartments.
Our house is heated by a ‘heat pump’. Works for us because we are on the grid but rural with no access to gas. For a residential house, it takes about 10 years to recover the initial cost of installing the underground pipes and higher cost of the furnace. Plus it is only efficient , or most efficient, in clay. I would think it is a good option where appropriate conditions exist, but those are limited. Some new housing in Manitoba – lots of clay there – use this technology successfully. But it won’t work everywhere and it’s best when you are on the grid.
We heat using a geothermal system. It is an open loop water well. You need 2 wells separated 100 feet apart – to pull the water and then replace it back into the aquifer. Cost to drill the wells is $12,000 plus another $3,000 for the pumps and electrical. Then you need the geothermal units themselves, which run on electricity and add to your electrical bill. We are starting our 6th year and will break even on cost (used to use propane furnaces). This works if you have property, but the big problem is the large number of city homes on nat gas.
“…and the future is firewood.”
Ashes. I’m betting ashes.
Are you betting Australia or England for the Ashes
Just because some party proposes this does not make it law. Seems like an opening for the UKIP to oppose this and get more support in the next election. If a large number of people want to do something and it turns out to be wrong-headed, that is stupidity rather than tyranny. Heat pump technology could be improved, it’s not the worst idea as it’s very unlikely that the centre of the earth will cool off because of anything we do up here. Maybe we just need deeper heat pumps. Somewhere down below us it is warmer than room temperature and heat rises. You just need to get it to rise into your house instead of blowing off steam in Hawaii or Yellowstone Park.
They want to eliminate economical production of electricity and, ALSO, have everyone drive an electric vehicle AND cook with electricity? Tell me the British are still the sensible people I used to know.
I wonder if the collapse of the price of natural gas over the past ten years has anything to do with this.
Watched a show on buying houses in England where they were taken to some stately home that was costing 39000 pounds a year to heat but they were in the process of putting in a sustainable more eco friendly system. They were cutting down the forest around the building and turning it into pellets and it was pointed out that they had at least 10 years worth of trees there and by then new trees would have grown so that they could start all over.
Textbook insanity !!!
Slash and burn?
There’s a “New Forest”. I guess much of the entire country was once the OLD forest.
What saved the remaining British forests was COAL, (from REALLY old swamps).
The slightly amusing thing is that “new-growth” forests absorb a much greater amount of that naughty Carbon Dioxide stuff in the process of photosynthesis, than do the “old-growth’ forests so beloved of the eco-nazis.
Let them keep suffering, for as long as they keep voting for it.
Whenever some smug envirotit lectures ne about the environment or racism or politics I just tell them “you can fcku right off” and more often than not they throw their hands up and walk away. If more of us did that rather than trying to engage them in debate we could rid ourselves of them. When you tell them to “fcku right off” you must step forward into their personal space so as to physically intimidate them. It works.
What’s the charge for cutting the King’s oaks in his forest?
The Sheriff of Nottingham hung some kids from the battlements for stealing wood from Sherwood and that resulted in the Barons and peasants finally saying enough is enough and the Magna Carta was born. Included in the Magna Carta was a list of “Normans’ (Frenchmen) friends of the King who were exiled because of their conduct including the guy from Nottingham.
“The water could be heated by waste heat from industry.

Well. Heating water from waste heat from from industry. Kinda works if there is any ‘industry’ nearby. Would not work through large swathes of this country where industry has been gutted by ridiculous energy policies that have raised the cost of electricity and driven manufacturing south of the border or made it impossible to take advantage of our own natural resources.
BTW. Heat pumps use electricity whether it is generated by coal, gas, solar or bicycles. I install systems to reduce people’s hydro consumption. Heat pumps not only use a fair of amount of power but they also have relatively high peaks which will cost you more in ‘delivery charges’ in any jurisdiction that uses peak demand billing.

Eleven years ago, I paid for a geo-exchange heating system for our average home in NB. It cost me C$25,000, took weeks of big machines that destroyed the lawn. The cost of landscaping is not included. How many homeowners can afford this? On which planet do these greens live?
