      6. I agree completely. I am so dismayed by what Max did – and I do like him better than Scheer, and I wish he had won the leadership. However, he didn’t. If he had stayed with the conservatives I think this might have been their election to lose. As it stands, with a divided right, I think there is very little hope to unseat Trudeau.
        Why couldn’t he have stayed in the party, tried to influence/change things from within? This way I think they’ll all lose. They never learn it seems.
        But I have to hold my nose and vote for Scheer. Because a vote for Max becomes a vote for Justin, just that simple.

    2. There are some of us old fiscal conservatives who have given up on politics in Canada. None of the major political parties have the philosophical commitment to openly debate the major issues that face Canada. It is the lack of political fortitude that has gotten us to where we are today. Many so called eastern conservatives are grasping at straws thinking that the CPC will return the country to the good old ‘Harper era’. Reason will prevail and Turdeau will become an ugly blemish.

      Western conservative like me have a different view. We consider the Harper era as a failed opportunity and a likely last gasp to keep this country together. For easterners, of whatever political ilk, who think that the status quo can be recovered are in for a surprise. The West will not tolerate another round of Quebec appeasement as the traditional ‘buying’ of a majority government starts with the upcoming federal election. This is not a racist diatribe but a comment on how Canada has been ran for hundreds of years as power brokers play one part of the country against another.

      Does Max Bernier have resonance in Western Canada? For many he will as he publically voices many of the issues that do not get open debate in Canada. For some like me we have heard this story before. Reform went east talking about many of these same issues only to see years of work dissipated as the party was neutered. Many old western conservatives see no solution until the economy tanks and likely decades are required to rebuild what remains of the country using fundamental principals of economics and equality. IMHO Canada, as now composed, will not survive this process.

  4. He’s trying to make the case that Canada needs more tax revenue to clear the way for carbon tax and estate taxes.

    His plan is to use this money to pay a basic income to his new voter base (new immigrants, refugees, foreign students etc) and gain a structural electoral advantage, just like California.

    At the same time, he and Gerald Butts are trying to put a choke hold on Canada’s biggest industry, oil, by quietly implementing the Leap Manifesto.

    Doing any of this as the head of a country is irresponsible.

    Doing all of this at once is insanity.

      If re-elected he’ll raise income taxes a lot. Key selling point? It’s only on the wealthiest 1%.

      Next is a wealth tax. You pay 1% of your total wealth each year. Add up your property value (house, cottage, farm etc.), your savings, and all investments, and send 1% of that each year to Ottawa. Heck he may even hit pension funds! Again the key selling point will be it is only a paltry 1%.

      Agree the purpose is to have a guaranteed basic income for all adults. On the plus side it might solve the illegal immigration problem in the US as many will want the basic income and bypass the US. Sarcasm. 🙁

        End result given ethanol has significatntly less BTU per Gallon/Litre of Fuel, is that with those percentages, you will lose ~15% in mileage and as such have to fill up that more often. THAT is where they will make their money…..EXTRA TAX $$$ from every Extra Tank full of the approximate 30,000,000 Gas Tanks in th country..?? do the math…..

        (why do ya think Costco Fuel is so much cheaper. eh.? You may wanna do a manual calculation – you’ll find you get less mileage from their fuel.)

Instead centre voters abandoned both and went for Nutley. She played her cards perfectly (i.e. kept her real policies quiet) during the election and captured much of the centrist vote. Turdeau plays the same game.

        Max will split the vote. If someone wishes to vote for Max, I’m fine with that, but recognize you may get someone (Turdeau) who is far far to the left of Max’s positions. If you can live with Turdeau running the country, feel free to vote for Max.

  12. One shouldn’t have to “like” the leader of the party one votes for. By that reasoning, Harper, for all his faults was likely as good as it can get in this deranged dominion. I don’t like Scheer, in fact I can barely tolerate most so called conservatives and I reminded myself why, after being on the board of our Conservative EDA only to resign last fall in disgust at their lack of principles and guts. I will still likely hold my nose and vote for them unless it’s clear that Max’s supporters have killed the local Conservative’s chances after which I may vote Max or Libertarian as at that point it won’t mater as I live in a mostly brain dead NDP riding.

    Back to the topic: You won’t see anything on the CBC but partisan leftist and green propaganda 24/7/365 (Harper’s failure).

    1. John, I resigned from our CPC EDA when it was made clear that the Board would have no role other than listening to our MP’s report on the goings on in Ottawa. Harper gutted the riding association in return for ‘silence’ from those rednecks who asked embarassing questions. Embarassing questions which were fundamental planks of the original Reform movement. This was kinda funny as that MP survived a political carpetbagger who tried to get the nomination when we ran our Reform candidate in the 2nd election Reform undertook. There was no doubt we would win that election as our membership was over 1700 and we had the riding well organized. This MP went on to win 5 elections. He should have remembered the principals of Reform and the value of grass roots involvement. It was our riding that sent a letter to Harper to challenge for the merged Alliance/PC party.

      Many of us feel very betrayed. For those who condemn Max I can only say we heard the same thing in Reform. We would ensure a Liebel election as we split the conservative vote. All I can say is that we elected our Reform MP in the 2nd election we contested. We defeated a sitting PC member. If there is no room for debate of ideas within a Party then why support it. If Scheer cannot address the concerns of a significant % of the membership then what kind of leader is he and how strong is the philosophy of the Party? I suggest the philosophy is not strong and is non-existent with many. The ‘carpetbaggers’ I mentioned above form a large portion of the leadership.

He is in FAVOUR of maintaining Monopolies such as Digital Comm., Airspace and Dairy – things which Cost Canadians Dearly when it is perfectly CLEAR that Honest Capitalism – ie: “Open – Honest competition” would cut those costs Significantly.
        He is also in favour of the Paris Climate Accords.

  13. At this point, of all the people who have thrown their hats in the ring, Bernier is the only one that appears to be different.

    If you think canada can be saved, then Bernier is likely your only bet. If you think canada is over (as I do), then very quick unilateral independence is the only way to save yourself and your region. The pessimistic view that I have, if your province doesn’t get out this year, it will already be too late to save yourself.

  14. Should probably do strategic voting just like the left does. Since Qbec is tribal more than any other province, maybe they might vote for Max en masse. They don’t like Justin from my read. They did vote for Jack but will completely yank the plug for Jagmeet. Max in Quebec and Alberta, Scheer in Ontario, the maritimes will vote for their entitlements. BC, hopefully will be too stoned to vote.

    Max has a good chance to siphon off Grit votes in Atlantic Canada and Quebec, where the CPC is nowhere anyway.

    They can also vote for Bernier in rock solid CPC ridings safe their vote doesn’t help the statist Grits and Dippers.

    He might even sneak a few wins in to assist in the ejection of Laurentian Justin’s Grits.

    In 905 ridings, and BC, assuming Bernier’s candidates have clout, Bernier supporters may consider strategic votes to keep Grits out.

    Just my two cents, a ha’penny after taxes. Like the Democrats say, vote early, vote often.

  17. I learnt my lesson from supporting Mulroney and will not support any politician from Quebec even one who is supposedly right of centre, so no to Maxime. No to Scheer as well since he supports supply management. I would like to support a party which pledged itself to a five year pause in immigration.

    I am with C.T and Kevin.
    I supported reform,with serious amounts of my own money.
    Briefly I had hope,we could reform the kleptocracy that Canada has become.
    I no longer give a damn who wins the Federal Governance stakes.
    There is no measurable difference between the Liberals and the so called conservatives.
    I will vote for Max and expect Justine to regain power.
    I consider the reign of Justine The Incompetent as a gift for Independent Western Canada.
    A second term for these fools and bandits will hammer home what Westerners already know in their hearts.
    Contemporary Confederated Canada has no place for us except as milk cows.

    The contempt from the east has become so normal we no longer even react to it.Lying is so normal that Eastern Canadians proudly reward it.

    Financially we cannot afford to stay bound to the wastrels of the east.
    God knows we have enough parasites with delusions of adequacy here.

  20. I rejoined Federal Conservatives to vote for Max. It does not matter.
    I supported him throughout the leadership race. It does not matter.
    I was disappointed he lost. It does not matter.
    I remain convinced he would make a much better leader than Scheer. It does not matter.

    Max is Canada’s Ross Perot. It matters.

    In the end, unless we are lucky and Scheer gets Patrick Browned, I will hold my nose and support Scheer. I was not willing to do so for Brown, he betrayed conservative principles too far to earn my vote. Scheer primarily needs an implantation of testicles. Still, neutered Scheer is order of magnitude better than PM Pussy Hat and his junta.
    And Max? Sorry you’re in the way and not helping getting rid of the junta. The option to lead was sadly denied to you. Now you should either follow or get the fekc out of the way.

    1. Exactly right, we have only one option to get rid of the present mess of incompetence laced with arrogance. We’ve had enough of this breathless play acting from Trudeau, scripts do not provide answers, apparently the Cabal don’t think we need answers, they will do what they like, they will stick with their agenda and count on the stupidity vote.

      It’s up to us to talk to our friends and family and anyone who will listen to do the job and oust this Cabal with a pseudo leader….an empty suit with a famous name tag.

  21. I found Watcher’s comments interesting the last time Kate had the topic the Western Independence on! Another term of Justin Trudeau’s Liberals will completely destroy Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Manitoba! Watcher suggested UDI and even though it has been set up for separate land masses; I feel it would be a great way to get the separation of the West started! A declaration of Independence and an online way to sign up could start the ball rolling!!

    The Canada that I loved has been broken by division politics of the Liberals and I don’t see a fix, with the possible exception of an elected Senate giving each Province and Territory ,say 2 senators!!! Even at that I feel it is too late!!

    We must vote strategically to get rid of Justin Trudeau and the Liberals if we split the Conservative vote , he will for sure win! We need time to set up our Independence!!

    1. Definitely an elected Senate and also Supreme Court judges, they play partisan games with no accountability to the people.

      Trudeau/his managers disowning Senators is a joke, they are Liberals when it counts.

      It might be a good idea to get serious and get the ball rolling right now ahead of the election on Western independence….make Trudeau and his “brain” trust squirm around that and see how the Eastern provinces deal with it. They may wake up to the reality of Western alienation. Quebec is already being catered to, Justin is worming his way to getting votes in his home province, we will pay. Anything they desire will be granted and we know they don’t want the pipeline, all about environmental crap while they flush raw sewage into the St Lawrence River. Hypocrites of the first order.
      We ca’t wait, Trudeau is out with his scripts campaigning on our dime, tossing money around a la Kathleen Wynne of Ontario fame, she left a holy mess, record debt.

      Then there’s the carbon tax….we get back more than we pay….yeah, right after they spend it on their special interests. This needs to be a big issue for the election as well, its a farce.

      Rgardless of Who wins the next Fed election – Not 1 Goddamned thing will change. The EAST will continue to rule Canada and we in the West will always have NO say.
