    1. When my wife of almost 40 years died after 5 years with cancer. I suffered a great deal of survivor guilt. Even tho I cared for her daily at home. One day after she passed, my daughter said Dad take me to Church. I said I can’t anymore. God has forgotten me. One week later he sent me my Love. And this song.

      1. When one’s heart feels like it could easily shatter into a million pieces music can bring relief to the chaos.
Edith Piaf was a small average looking woman whose voice was not overpowering but after a few bars she immediately brings you onside. My high school French is limited but even I can pick up many of her clearly enunciated words.

        1. In those 5 years I saw things no man should see, it aged me greatly and almost broke me. Cancer is very ugly. I kept my word day by day and night after night until the end, I cared for her alone at home by myself. By the end I had gone from 220 Lbs to 146 Lbs. There was nothing left. Music helped a great deal. Ode To Joy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qWbcosJdtU

          1. While there were things one shouldn’t see, there were also things you didn’t miss. Rest easy my friend.

    2. Hard not to like Edith Piaf.

Since there are ‘No Regrets’ I’d suggest another by Phoebe Snow or I think maybe Ella did it as well?

  1. I’ve been watching this at least a few times a year since it was posted. I enjoy the whole series, but find the 1908 Barcelona particularly nice with its old world flavor musical track.

    1. I remember when that was on the Top-40 charts. Compare that to the rubbish that’s being cranked out today.

No wonder I prefer classical music and opera.

        1. That song has many of the elements needed to make it an enduring classic. It has a hummable tune, a catchy beat, and a pleasant sound.

Listen to what passes for popular “music” now, and each ditty sounds much like any other. It’s the same din, the same style, and, for all I know, the same lyrics.

For example, on another website that I check in with, I compared Eartha Kitt’s Santa Baby with the version by Ariana Grande. Kitt’s is a classic more than 60 years old because of how it’s performed. Grande’s, which is much more recent, goes in one ear and out the other and, thankfully, will be forgotten in a few years.

    1. The left doesn’t like the term “theft”, they try to use words like “scavenge”, to the looney fringe there’s nothing wrong with helping yourself according to your needs. You can see it in US news stories about non-enforcement of transit fare-dodging, I think there was a recent story in California about ceasing prosecution of shoplifters.
Sadly even the most whacky lefty concepts very quickly becomes their mainstream, I remember when the media first started respectfully giving air time to activists for stuff like open borders, “no-one is illegal”, gender-blending, it seemed crazy to me, now it’s a hobby of mine… watching how quickly a degenerate destructive lefty concept goes from its first pop-up in the lefty publicity mill to mainstream promotion. One of the latest is female genital mutilation and child marriage, I expect these to soon be deemed totally acceptable and only questioned by fascists.

  2. Where The White Man Went Wrong by Two Dogs
“Indian Chief “Two Eagles was asked by a white U.S. government official, “You have observed the white man for 90 years. You’ve seen his wars and his technological advances. You’ve seen his progress, and the damage he’s done.”

    The Chief nodded in agreement.

The official continued, “Considering all these events, in your opinion, where did the white man go wrong?”

The Chief stared at the government official then replied,

“When white man find land, Indians running it, no taxes, no debt, plenty buffalo, plenty beaver, clean water. Women do all the work, medicine man free, Indian man spend all day hunting and fishing, all night having sex.”

Then the Chief leaned back and smiled, “Only white man dumb enough to think he could improve system like that.”

  3. Bre Payton, our beloved staff writer for The Federalist, passed away on Friday in San Diego, California following a sudden illness.

Bre was born in California on June 8, 1992, to George and Cindy Payton.

Will the left cheer like it did after Tony Snow passed away from cancer at an early age?

  4. As 2018 comes to a close and we open 2019, EnergyNow would like to share this heartfelt Open Letter by Demian Newman to those who oppose Canadian pipelines and oilsands. Please share in your respective networks. EnergyNow applauds Demian and others who have taken the time to defend the Canadian oil and gas industry, one of the most responsible in the world.

I think that those who oppose Canadian oil do not care what happens if it is all shut down as they want Canada to go back to prairie and forest.

    1. What if they win? There will be great rejoicing and dancing in the streets, of course. Those leftist fruitloops can’t see the overall effects of these protests and shutdowns, nor would they want to.

As I’ve mentioned on SDA several times before, they think that gasoline comes magically out of the pump at a service station and electricity is produced by wall sockets.

I frequently encountered that attitude while I was a grad student at UBC nearly 40 years ago and it hasn’t changed.

Those same lefties who hate the oil companies wouldn’t think twice about jumping into their gas-guzzlers for a weekend of skiing at places like Whistler or Banff as they need to have their “close to nature” fixes. After all, they shouldn’t be expected to walk there, should they, and there aren’t any horses around for them to ride, even if they knew how.

Nope, your typical leftist elitist believes in luxury and comfort only for them and, well, who cares about everyone else, eh? And if the oil workers find themselves unemployed, they could always go work for the government, can’t they?

    2. When I worked in the oil industry I used to listen to Americans say that the US had the strictest environmental standards. Then when these same Americans came to work in Alberta they were dumbfounded by the care and attention most oil companies took with respect to consultation, stakeholder engagement, and environmental regulations. We don’t do this in the states was theire response.

Other than NEB pipelines, I did not think there was too much regulation, I just encouraged my staff to get good at it. In many cases it saved us money.

  5. I listened to a few of Dr. Jordan Peterson’s podcasts. The most revealing demonstration of his remarkable intellect and humanity was 3 hours with TV’s Dr. Oz. His daughter, Mikhaila, started her own podcasts and blog. This family has suffered from generational crippling depression. Mikhaila has always been devastated with many autoimmune diseases, even as a toddler. She was in a wheelchair with rheumatoid arthritis before second grade.

This Steve Paikin piece with Peterson and his daughter on the very restricted carnivore diet has them talking about diet/disease/depression connections. I chose it because it’s not too long and the biographical information casts Peterson’s work and mass appeal in a different light. However the Dr. Oz interview drifting into the meaning of life is astounding.

    1. He was the wrong kind. He actually thought he should earn his place here. The ones the lefties like expect to have everything handed to them and the lefties expect us to pay for it.

        1. They seem to be borrowing every page from the communist playbook. Soon the victims of protected minorities will need to be carried through city streets like Janek Wisniewski’s body in Poland in 1970. There too media refused to report on the victims of the system.

  6. There are 2 types of people in this world; those who seek out their own future and those who wait to be saved by the government.

Baltimore’s population has been declining for years as people leave for better prospects. For those who stay the city is crumbling around them.

“But in West Baltimore’s Harlem Park, Rollins is among those watching the urban deterioration all around them with indignation, exasperated that her child is growing up in a harsh environment with no easy escape hatch. She wants to see some genuine transformation, not cosmetic brushstrokes. She’s concerned about the psychological impact of living amid ruins.

“People around here want real changes, real opportunities,” she said, watching her little girl play in the yard of her public school. “I say a prayer every day we walk out the door and face those empty houses: God, please keep us safe.”

The key point is that Rollins “is among those watching”.

    1. Who doesn’t like Leon Redbone? Cindy Cashdollar on dobro- nice.

Leon is an enigma. Some say he hustles pool in toronto…ha

He’s on my list. If he’d tour with Lyle Lovett….

        1. That’s Texas man. Totally improvised. Somebody called ‘Steelin’ Home’ in D. No rehearsal just count it in and go.
Nice playing. Didn’t know you were into Texas swing Nancy.

  7. Hard not to like Edith Piaf.

  8. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Vancouver

As per the above link, this city (or town, perhaps, then) could have been named “Coevorden” rather than “Vancouver”. Read about the interesting life of Captain George Vancouver, in such books as:

” Sailing With Vancouver: A Modern Sea Dog, Antique Charts and a Voyage Through Time” by Sam McKinney, 2004.
    Or:
“Madness: Betrayal, and the Lash: The Epic Voyage of Captain George Vancouver” by Stephen R. Brown, 2008.

There are many others listed in “Further Reading” of this link.

The film from May 1907 was terrific. Great Edwardian clothes on people. Horse and buggy era, no cars or road rules. No apparent road rage! Ha!

  9. Trump job approval rating from veterans:

‘Overall, 56 percent of veterans — both current and former service members — said they approve of the job Trump is doing as president, while 43 percent disapproved. Voters who have not served in the military were more likely to disapprove (58 percent) than approve (42 percent) of the president’s job performance.

The survey found that differences in support for Trump between veterans and nonveterans extended across racial and ethnic groups, including among whites (62 percent of veterans approve versus 49 percent of nonveterans), Latinos (53 percent vs. 28 percent) and African-Americans (22 percent vs. 10 percent).”
