The op-eds published in the very influential Washington Post certainly qualify as attempts to change U.S. policy against Saudi Arabia and in favor of the Muslim Brotherhood, which Qatar supports in spite of its status as a terrorist organization with most other Gulf countries.

His embedding in the Washington Post which pushed his writing to anti-American/anti-Trump/anti-Saudi bias in his articles, financial transactions directly coming from the pro-Muslim Brotherhood Qatar state and his fawning over Shariah as being the new standard which the world must submit under and that Osama bin Laden was right in his quest are red flags which require some more thorough scrutiny by the MSM.

The western governments have their own geo-political aims in the region and had been working hand in hand with the Saudis, Qataris et al to recruit jihadi fighters for the proxy war in Syria.
The jihadis may find some common cause to fight on the side of western governments (Soviets, apostate rulers a la Gadhafi and Assad) but they have their own agenda. The jihadis believe the prophecy that they will be victorious in the final battle of battles. The jihadis are preparing for the final battle. Prophecy says they will suffer setbacks and so they are prepared to endure setbacks upto the final fulfillment. A battle goes bad, they are given helicopter rides to safe zones to regroup. In time some return to their home countries or adopted countries in the west filled with zeal for the jihadist cause and trained in the arts of rape and murder.
