Transport Canada estimates that there are approximately 20,000 oil tanker movements off the coasts of Canada each year.
Annual Canadian oil transported on the Pacific Coast amounts to six million tonnes,
U.S. oil tankers that transit through those Canadian waters transport six times as much, at 37 million tonnes.
The estuary and Gulf of St. Lawrence import, largely through the ports of Montreal and Quebec City, receive 67 million tonnes.
Wow

I read the article in a paper copy of the Herald, so I missed the comments at the bottom of the link. Thanks. And having lived in Ottawa and Halifax, I am very aware of Irving and Power Corp.
Having met with many West coast NGOs, I also know their objective is to shut down the oil sands. They told me this many times.
Horgan and others who say they only object to toxic diluted bitumen being shipped are playing a delay game. If we refined it and tried to pipeline that out it would still be dirty. It would still be toxic. And tankers exporting Alberta oil would disturb the whales (on either coast) far more than the same tankers importing oil!

There has been much back and forth on here about Alberta Independence and Stubble Jumper Independence. In this article it explains how Scottish Devolution was all a con, and a scam on the Scots. https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-12-15/supreme-court-judgement-and-scotlands-colonial-status
Now the Alberta Independence argument.
Canada has never been a Federal State, it was and is a Confederation. A Confederation is when Sovereign States in this case Provinces enter into an agreement to work together, yet respecting each others Sovereignty. The Provinces created Canada and the Parliament at Ottawa. Ottawa did not create Canada. Previously to 1867 we were known as the Canadas, Colonies of the British Crown. Each Province/Colony had its own Prime Minister. None of that changed in 1867. The Prime Minister of each Colony/Province was still a Prime Minister, except we now had another Prime Minister who held Office in Ottawa, Province of Upper Canada/Ontario. This was the arrangement until the signing of The Statute of Westminister 1931. At which time all power of the Crown of England reverted to the People of each Province. At that time Ottawa was supposed to call a meeting of all the Prime Ministers of each Province and create a Federation this was never done. The only way that Alberta can improve its position within Confederation, is to now Declare a Unilateral Declaration of Independence (UDI) then renegotiate the terms of its place in the New Federation of Canada or go it alone.
This is all Canadian History and also the history of Australia, NZ, Ireland, SA etc, all colonies that were affected by the Statute of Westminister 1931. The BNA was merely instructions to the Governor of the Colony of Canada, on how to administer a Colony.
Canada has been a scam and a Slave Ship since 1931.
Zimbabwe then Rhodesia, declared UDI in 1966. Look where it is now.
Soon after Ian Smith declared Rhodesia independent in 1965, it became an international pariah. Other countries imposed sanctions and various guerilla movements (most. if not all, of whom were communist) began clandestine wars against it. It survived for as long as it did largely because it was supported by South Africa, which often lent military assistance to it.
It was only after Smith stepped down and Mugabe took over, Rhodesia, which was re-named Zimbabwe, that the country really went downhill. It was so bad at times that people yearned for the times when Smith was in charge as, at least, everyone had enough to eat.
Alberta is not Rhodesia, in case you did not notice. UDI is a legal and Internationally recognized process. The outcomes would be much different. The sheep raise their head then go back grazing.
So what you’re saying is independence would result in replacing the culture and institutions responsible for prosperity with third world systems of kleptocracy and tribal identity politics?
I think you are confusing long term results of independence with staying. Or maybe it’s the lobsters.
Perhaps you should start with geography and history lessons. Then study political systems. Alberta is not Africa. UDI is not a political system, it is a tactic in law. One which can be used by any country under international law to declare its Independence. That is all it is, using UDI or pronouncing the words UDI does not turn your country into an African Sh*thole. Do a little research before making such arsine claims. A good example of a UDI was the American Declaration of Independence. You have heard of that Document I would hope? Except today, in the modern world the UDI is brought to the world court at the Hague and arbitrated. No muskets involved. Canadians the perfect sheep. Always repeating what their masters have programmed, never thinking for themselves. Carry on handing over 70% of your property to your masters and eat the crumbs they throw back to you. “If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!
