It’s also sad from the point of view of amateur radio. The BSA’s station K2BSA has been a major fixture on the ham bands and JOTA, the Jamboree on the Air, is an annual event. Many boys have been introduced to amateur radio that way.
I remember working that station a number of years ago during a pass of the AO-27 amateur radio satellite.
Hopefully we will see a return to boys only clubs. We also need boys only schools and compulsory two year military service. University and post secondary education can wait two years.

They have CSB in our town and over half the boys in and around town go.
My sons found scouts/cubs boring and not challenging (and taking videotapes on camping trips!). They both gravitated to air cadets and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Any of the cadet organizations are superior to scouts in my opinion.
Both my sons were in scouts in Canada. The older one liked it and is now in Venturers, Although the program isn’t up to much. The younger one hated Scouts, I made him go anyway until this last year then he quite. I got him interested in cadets and he joined the sea cadets and the sea cadet band. He’s having a great time, and doing better at it than I ever thought he would. My only complaint about the cadets is that it is now (at least his corps) a majority female activity.
1. Identify a respected institution. Check.

If the western churches (Anglicans for example) have no standards of what is acceptable, why go?
My nephews joined Navy Cadets (in Regina? what? yep.) and though they tired soon of me asking of when do they start with the rifle training, they said it was rigorous and have only good memories of it.

I was a Beaver leader, a Cub leader, and a Scout leader. I got out when the leader training focused less on providing stellar growth opportunities in skills and leadership for the kids to ensuring that every contact with the Scouts was done with at least two leaders present, and documented. Both my sons passed through the ranks but finished in Army Cadets, where they learned real life skills dealing with a professional well-financed command structure and emerged as fine, very fit, respectful young men. Soon after, Aids to Scouting, a military field manual he had written for British soldiers in 1899, caught on with a younger audience. Mine were beavers ,Cubs scouts sparks and brownies, ended up as army and air cadets. Duke of Edinburgh winners and one pilot .

As an Eagle Scout, i am sad to see it go. But, the scouts I liked (not loved) and endured all the way through is long gone.
