Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

You can write a paper under a pseudonym but if you want to comment on a paper they want your real name.
It appears that academe has forgotten just why tenure was instituted. It was established to prevent professors from being fired for holding or expressing controversial opinions or ideas that challenged the orthodoxy.
Without tenure, scientists such as J. Tuzo Wilson, an early researcher in plate tectonics, would have been canned. The idea that continents could move across a planetary surface was seen as absurd 50 or 60 years ago. But that was before it was determined that ocean floor ridges and trenches were geologically active. That evidence provided an explanation of how pieces of crustal material could move relative to each other.
They want both right and left wing academics on the board of the journal. One, where do you find a right wing academic and two, you couldn’t trust the left wing academics to not leak the names of authors who don’t follow the leftist dogma. It’s in their DNA.
If the left can’t silence the right leaning author (because he or she hides behind the pseudonym) then I would expect The Journal of Controversial Ideas to have a very limited shelf life. It will be accused of publishing hate speech or hurting someone’s feelings and the search engines won’t be able to find it.
Discussing this with a friend, the existence of this journal proves a point about the failings and corruption of academia. Then we got around to some details, about if this could fix anything. The reason academics publish is to further their academic career. How will publishing under a pseudonym advance an academic career? How will they claim credit for the publication of their work or how often it is cited? Will even being associated with this journal become a career deathblow? How much research could be conducted for these papers without the corrupt institutions knowing about it anyway.
The one interesting positive about the long history of pseudonymous publishing (even Benjamin Franklin wrote many editorials using a psuedonym) is that it can separate the content from the credentials, and arguments will have to stand on their own. I look forward to papers with discoveries coming from outside credentialed academia.

“The eruption of gunfire early Wednesday involving at least four guns
and as many as 20 bullets fired killed Yohannes Brhanu, 22, of Toronto,
and brought the city’s homicide count to 89 in 2018, the highest on
record since since 1991 — with six weeks remaining in the year.”
