Justin Trudeau wants you to know the carbon tax is not a carbon tax.

I can hear them laughing about, as they “get” Alberta especially & kick them in the gonads.
Alberta/Saskatchewan have to pay Carbon Gelt to Canada, which takes away from the cash they need to fund their own health care, while Carbon Gelt funds someone elses. Bottom line. Butts thinks everyone should feel guilty for breathing air or doing what comes naturally to people. LIVE in Canada. There’s now a “fee” for doing so.

Having the government tax carbon so you reduce your driving, flying, and lower your home’s thermostat, and then giving you back the money so you can afford to pay for gasoline, airline tickets, and heat your home, only makes sense to Liberals.
Yeah yeah, I know they will only give rebates plus a little bit more, to 70% of the population. Hey the “rich” folks won’t reduce their CO2 emissions either.
Even the UN experts say Canada has no chance (that’s zero Justin) of meetings its Paris commitments.
We are being PUNISHED for using fossil fuels. Economically PUNISHED. To FORCE us into electric cars or mass transit … and to put solar panels on the roof. Carbon taxes sole purpose is as an economic disincentive to purchase and use fossil fuels. Therefore, it doesn’t matter what it is spent on. The reason Justine Sockinpuss claims his carbon tax is actually a “pollution” tax … is that the intent is to get you out of your car … and thus reduce pollution.
But Justine Sockinpuss knows the current carbon tax in not nearly enough to force you out of your car, and hence not reduce pollution. Therefore MORE carbon taxes are needed. And so it will go. If the court deems such taxes legitimate, then there will be no stopping the tax increases. These taxes will keep rising and rising … for the good of the planet doncha know!

Though I might well argue the confiscatory levels to which taxes have been raised now in most modern countries, I don’t debate that nations must fund their own sovereignty, as it were, and that citizens therefore have an obligation to support the state through taxation.
However, what is particularly insidious about the carbon tax is this: unlike other taxes based on income and goods and services, this is essentially a tax on just being alive, on the premise that mere human existence itself must be penalized because it is an affront to “the environment”.
In that regard, it represents a highly immoral tax.
I’m not arguing against ALL taxation … however … from my CA-taxation observation, taxation is no longer funding necessary services or sovereignty… rather my taxes fund leftist causes and other nations poor people.

If as a society we vote power to pillagers’ raids on our capital – or worse still don’t vote and claim they’re all the same – then WE have nobody but ourselves to blame, by giving consent of the elected to continue to invade and tax every facet of our lives. Further state coercion as they double down on their induced economic failure is a given.
Look at housing. To help new or strapped homebuyers get into the market, they induce acid tests on everyone. I had a tenant whom I gave a short term lease to because they were nearly ready to buy a home. They gave notice and told me they were moving because their house deal fell through due to the Grit acid test which changed the percentages with a 2% interest bump to qualify on.
Example two on housing. Government says rentals are too expensive, so obviously landlords are greedy. Perhaps the $150,000 in fees and regulations (low estimate) for a Victoria rental unit build has something to do with this? Then they renege on rent increases, limiting them to inflation while property taxes, fees and utilities are rapidly rising. Then the City of Victoria piles on with the “tenant assistance plan,” whereby landlords who demolish their property or redevelop it must submit a plan to the City for their approval if they want a permit, which they’ll obviously need.
This “plan” includes rent compensation of up to 12 months to long term tenants, and a host of other crap.
IOW, buildings will be left in poorer condition, benefiting no one, except maybe for the apparatchiks giving themselves an atta-boy.
Anyway, we’ve got to step up as a society and eject these incompetent fools incessantly getting between buyer and seller or we are doomed to their excesses.

It will come down to a court determining if CO2 is simply plant food or deleterious climate change pollution. The debate isn’t settled and it will come down to the most basic of facts. At least the SCOTUS won’t buy the snake oil. If CO2 causes no reasonably determinable foreseeable harm then there’s no protection excuse and the tax instantly dies as an unfair burden to Canada’s energy producers. This will be a battle, much like abortion, to define basic reality and much of mankind’s future including the existence of individual rights and freedoms will be affected.
Martin B you are absolutely correct, this carbon tax or the supposed tax on pollution is nothing but a scam. The real intent is to create a budget item that can be increased at every Federal budget incrementally. I wonder who they will tax in order to replace the HST that will be lost from those of us who used to buy gas guzzling vehicles, and the taxes that were collected on the fuel they used. Maybe Gerry Butts should re-calculated the result of this environmental wet dream before he turns the moron loose on us taxpayers.

If CO2 is truly a pollutant to be taxed, then to ensure fair taxation, politicians, government drones and spokesfolk, public unionistas, and other public figures should be levied with a massive “bloviation surcharge” to ensure the worst polluters are punished.
