Not a fan of Ghomeshi, and I’m not defending him or Buruma, but if something published pisses off Jessica Valenti, I’d say it was a good thing.
If I had a dollar for every so-called celebrity that threatened to move to Canada and then reneged, I would be quite wealthy. Talk is cheap. The guy at work who pisses and moans about everything and says he’s quitting never seems to get around to it. Those that are serious don’t usually telegraph it and are there one day and gone the next.

I am definitely NOT a fan of Jian Ghomeshi, but both my sister and I were appalled at what those women did to him. They were basically washed up actresses on the downside of their careers and were looking for a successful man in entertainment, of whom they could either be the wife or girlfriend. The fact that they sent him provocative e-mails AFTER the so-called night of terror and still wanted to date him, says it all. (By the way, when I lived in Toronto, I had heard of his sexual procolivities (sp?) and was not impressed.) When he rebuffed them, that is when they decided to go after him legally. And again, my sister and I could not believe them corresponding with each other after the judge expressly told them not to do so. Not the brightest bulbs in the chandelier.
BM, Ghomass is a dirt bag, who was enabled by stupid wimin, not an unusual scenario, see it all the time.
Ghomeshi is a pig who got exactly what he deserved. It may seem strange to read that women who fell victim to his “antics” would contact him afterword. I read about one woman in particular. She agreed it made no sense and even looking back on it she felt ashamed. She suggested it may have been an attempt to erase the night before, to pretend everything is fine. People need to understand that women don’t always react with common sense when they’ve been assaulted. We need to give these women some slack. I feel sorry for them, that their stories changed during the testimony and that the female lawyer was able to deconstruct their story. The lawyer was excellent. But Ghomeshi remains a douche bag and should never work in Entertainment again – maybe wash diapers or greet at Walmart.
My wife went to York U with Ghomeshi and had several classes with him. He was a douche-bag then and he’s a douche-bag now. I saw a backstage video of him just before a Moxy Fruvous performance in Buffalo where he basically called his paying audience a bunch of epsilon-semi-morons (ESM). (To be fair, a fan of Moxy Fruvous would pretty much have to be an ESM.) But that kind of narcissism invariably leads to something bad/illegal.

I read Ghomeshi’s article.
1. Ghomeshi basically admitted to the general finding that he was a scumbag, if not any of the particulars.
2. Ghomeshi claims to no longer be a scumbag, because he is no longer a celebrity and can no longer get away with it.
3. Ghomeshi is extremely vague about how he’s supporting himself nowadays. My guess is that by the time the Corpse fired him he had already made enough off the Canadian taxpayer to live comfortably in idleness and obscurity for the rest of his life.
I dare say he sounds content.
