“Award-winning author and professor Jordan Peterson discusses everything the importance of freedom of speech and Canadian culture when confronted with tyranny. The speech was in honor of Raif Badawi and was hosted by the Montreal Press Club.”
Notice the guy in front row center. Perhaps that’s where he got his moment of clarity.
Do you mean Maxime, or the fellow on his left?
Heh…
Maxime Bernier, black suit, white shirt and stripped tie, is sitting in the front row and the fellow on his left is listening very intently and about half way through the talk begins to show some positive reaction to Jordan’s talk, and near the end nods his head in agreement.
The standing ovation by the Montreal Press Club members for Peterson at the end of the talk is remarkable, especially so since 80/90 % of journalists admit to being progressive Liberal and NDP supporters.
I noticed he was one of the ones who seemed to be really listening. I found surprising how many appeared to be not.
A hierarchy of rights…
The sovereign right…
Well, it’s private property; that is the one without which no other right matters.
The right to private property is the necessary precondition for all other rights.
Without private property rights, where can you gather for free association, if there is no place you are allowed to gather?
Where can you worship for freedom of religion, if there is no place you are allowed to worship?
Where can you speak, for freedom of speech, if there is no place you are allowed to speak (see 3 square inch “free speech zones” on university campuses)?
Why do you think Diefenbaker had private property in the Canadian bill of rights?
Why do you think PET got rid of that, and specifically left it out of his Canadian Charter of Slavery to the State?
Without private property, much easier to seize guns, cars, houses, …
and yet, and yet, canadistan kept putting him back in office.
why is that?
is it true that yer average canadistani lacks requisite comprehension of political matters to NOT vote for the pretty hair, the charissssssssma, the money, the charissssssssma, the suave persona, image, image, image, image?
Except PET only ever won through a monopoly on Quebec. Had Quebec separated the liberals never won in the rest of Canada.
It was the promise of an insane expansion of government jobs (all for francophones) that was the key to his marxist success.
yer average canadistani lacks requisite comprehension of political matters
I remember sitting through Sunday sermons many years ago in which “social justice” was preached and that “liberation theology” was presented as divinely ordained. (Never mind that those doctrines were deeply seated in communism.)
People in the congregation sat and nodded in agreement with whatever the cleric told them. I had to wonder whether they actually believed what was being preached from the pulpit or if they simply went along with it because what they thought that what they heard must surely have come from on high and could never be questioned. At the same time, there might have been people who knew so little about politics that they accepted what they were told as being the truth.
I was skeptical, having heard stories of what the Red Army did after they came to Berlin. (My mother didn’t consider being shot at by Soviet soldiers as “liberation”.) However, I kept quiet because not only was I outnumbered, I doubted that I would have ever persuaded anyone with those anecdotes.
And therein lay the problem. I didn’t see anyone in those groups ever questioning what was being presented. It was as if to do so would have violated an Eleventh Commandment: Thou shalt not question.
I wish he would address the fallacy of Binary solutions to intelligent thought… We live in an Analog world where the spectrum between White & Black has ~ unlimited Shades of Gray….Every action has an equal and opposite reaction…Truth “may” be found somewhere near the middle.

Jared Diamond in his book “Guns Germs and Steel” argued that Africa was a benighted wasteland because unlike Europe they didn’t have the advantage of having domesticatable animals, like horses and cattle. I guess that was a crock of shit. Plenty of white people have managed to domesticate and use zebras, and African buffalo.
Not to mention that it took many generations to create domesticated pigs from wild boar, and domesticated cattle from aurochs, or dogs from wolves. The Aztecs and Mayans spent thousands of years turning a single 4cm row of seeds into modern corn on the cob.
I think that not living in a benighted wasteland is more about having a culture where people look beyond the next couple of meals, and work towards a better life for their children, grandchildren, and so on down the line.
Jared Diamond was referring to the generations necessary, starting with a species that *lends* itself to domestication in the first place, NOT random exceptions. even dozens of random exceptions doesnt cut it.
his point was, domesticated buffalo vs domesticated hippos.
I read his books and watched the video (actually I pirated the video).
So how many animals are there that lend themselves to domestication through breeding considering it has been done with wild boars and elk. The Masai seem to have done quit well with zebu cattle.
Claiming that arguably the most dangerous animal in the world is a typical representation of the continents wildlife seems a bit disingenuous. Though not as easy as the Indian Elephant, Hannibal seems to have domesticated some African Elephants. The warthog is from the pig family (same as wild boar), the African Buffalo is the same family as domestic cattle, not sure how much potential there is in wildebeest and gazelles, but Africa has an incredible array of native mammals and South Africa alone has 22000 species of plants. How many could be cultivated and selected over generations to produce a staple crop?
The two large deserts are obviously an impediment, but ancient Egyptians seemed to cope with those while being a major source of food for the world. I stand by the idea that long term culture is the key to making a better world rather than a wasteland. Why didn’t such a culture take hold? Was it a history of low population density?
I leave it up to the ahfricahs for the last oh, 20,000 years just to make sure, to find out on their OWN which of the critters native to their quarter can be domesticated and made useful in that way.
I would also suggest the tend towards the herbivores first and the hippos and crocodiles and lions last.
Plenty of white people have managed to domesticate and use zebras
Name three. Zebras are considered to be undomesticable, and for good reason.
Diamond’s theses have serious problems with reality, but this isn’t one of them.
In all cases these were one offs to prove a point, or out of necessity. In the case of the German cavalry in Africa, they neeeded mounts and there weren’t enough horses around. In any case it goes to show that if you did selective breeding of zebras for use as draft/transport animals, there is no reason why it couldn’t be done.
“Canadian Government Moves To Block Freedom of Speech in Effort to Prop-up Justin…
Posted on August 19, 2018 by sundance
Under the auspices of making moves to block election interference from outside interests the government of Justin from Canada is moving to block internet content critical of Trudeau and his policies.
Simultaneously and ironically, the same Canadian government is spending millions lobbying U.S. politicians in Washington DC to retain their one-sided NAFTA trade benefits. Funny that, eh?”
Your comment, along with Lev’s, Ken’s and Nancy’s material above would make an excellent thread for tomorrow.
I think there are several things happening out there that both major parties are “shilly-shallying” about. Clearly, they are both nervous, and I’ve received two pieces of contradictory information in the last 24 hours from one of them.
Funny I haven’t heard anything from Scheer about this; but then again, I never hear anything from Scheer.
Let’s be charitable about this and say he’s being covered by a media blackout. I think he needs to bypass the media’s control of the narrative. Hey, where have I heard of that before? Doug Ford is a good model, as is Mad Max; they both get their message out, as does a certain famous Twitter user.
I assume he has lots to say to Canadians other than “Vote for me, I’m just like the Liberals”.
“Let’s be charitable about this and say he’s being covered by a media blackout.”
Indeed a generous statement, yet possibly still true.
What Scheer and his CINO backers fail to understand, or simply CHOOSE not to, is that playing nice with the Canadian media is ABSOLUTELY FUTILE and UTTERLY UNPRODUCTIVE for the Conservative cause. Look where it got the media-naive Harper with his insulting act of bribing CBC’ers with gold-plated spots at the Senate trough. The CBC still ate him alive and were key to his loss to our current f*cked up tyrant.
As I have joked before (OK, only semi-joking), I suspect Scheer only ran for the leadership of the CPC because the party assured him he would never have to worry about actually being PM.
Of the many things Donald Trump has accomplished for our southern counterparts, exposing traitorous RINO’s and taking on the media as a subversive enemy to democracy itself are maybe his most important deeds. The fact the CPC apparently refuses to seize this strategy makes it painfully clear to me that they are currently soulless, happy to cruise along with the Liberal’s destructive status quo.
So, currently, our federal political choices are far far left, far left and centre left. At least now every Canadian Conservative understands exactly what it’s been like to be a BC Conservative these past many years.
There you have it, folks: Canada is now a communist country. Anything critical of the Dear Leader is criminal.
In Prince Valuenaught’s favourite part of the world, Winnie-the-Pooh is banned because he’s considered a caricature of Xi Jing Peng. Should we be surprised at something like this happening here?
How much would you like to wager that Tides Canada (US) et al will be exempt?
Anyway, I’ve always believed that we Conservatives should stand our ground, when it comes to creative endeavours, so as to not let those bloody lefties, think that they control that realm.
Right then.

Phosphorescent wake,

Update: Zebra (feminist – conservative coalition) race. (aka Petition e-1787) Trudeau’s race to the bottom.
Petition near 10,000 signatures now with no end in sight to hold Trudeau answerable to his own enforcement standards while defending the honor of Canadian women.
PER CAPITA here is the race:
Alberta continues to hold its lead and has picked up the pace with Saskatchewan holding its interval in second.
Yukon Territory holds third but is currently challenged by a rising Manitoba. Immediately pressing are Ontario and British Columbia in a dead heat searching for room to surge. Northwest Territories are looking strong pacing the leaders on the rail with New Brunswick outside trailing half a length.
Slightly off the pace are Nova Scotia, Newfoundland/Labrador, and Nunavut with Prince Edward in a can and Quebec’s shiny pony pondering hypocrisy at the gate.
The Great Canadian Zebra Race is on!
Apparently, genetics matter. Zebras are just not thoroughbreds.
Trudeau has announced he is running in the next election, no surprise there, he’s already electioneering.
Where are the gutless politicians on this eradication/desecration of our history? This is the end game for this country if we allow it to go on. What are they teaching the children?
This reminds me of “Old Angel MIdnight” by Jack Kerouac.
1. Maduro’s gangs of armed thugs, the only people left in Venezuela who still have enough to eat, run out of stuff to steal.
2. Maduro is forced to choose between being overthrown or allowing his thugs to invade another country where there is still plenty of stuff to steal.
3. Because every Venezuelan who knows the first thing about fighting wars
against people who shoot back and winning is in exile, a foreign army liberates Venezuela. Maduro flees to Cuba or is killed trying to escape.
4. The left blame “imperialists” in league with Donald Trump for the downfall of the revolution.
The big issue is the end of gasoline subsidies which will save the government $10 billion USD. The rest is just smoke and mirrors.
The bolivar will be devalued by 21 times its current rate while minimum wage will rise by 35 times (an effective increase of 66%). Imagine having a job at twice the minimum wage last week, and this week everyone on minimum wage just got a 66% pay raise except for you. You are now only making 34% above the minimum wage. If you did this 2-3 times everyone in the country would be earning minimum wage. And the financial post calls the changes “confusing”. It’s not confusing at all. The government is screwing its people on a massive scale. They get a 66% pay raise and the cost of bread doubles. What is confusing is how this guy (Maduro) is able to hang on to power.
What is interesting is the total lack of commentary on Venezuela from people in the US who want Democratic Socialism.
Venezuela’s minimum wage is rising 5900% today. That’s not a typo, nor did I have a stroke or miss a decimal in there…
Yes, Trudeau never answered her question. If he was smart he would’ve told her that the money was being provided in the next Federal budget, as it is self-balancing.
Secondly, his people skills need improving. Trudeau failed to realize that the woman was speaking loudly because she was situated quite a distance from him, without a microphone and wanted to be heard, so she spoke loudly. Now if he was a real charmer he could’ve invited her to the stage and mike and told her in a nice way about the aforementioned budget provision. After all, it wouldn’t have been the first time a politician lied.
Thirdly, if he was a really nice guy he could have invited her to voice any other concerns that she might’ve had. Bet you the body guards wouldn’t have been involved. How could an older woman have been a threat to him? He was trying to make a fool of her. He succeeded in showing how foolish he actually, is himself.
To Trudeau: There that ‘s how it’s done Prince ‘Charming’, because it’s 2018.
P.S. Trudeau is an ageist. He treated the young lady of ‘Peopleskind’ fame more politely. Remember that folks?
You may have heard about Monsanto being sued $289 million in San Francisco and how Roundup causes cancer and is KILLING YOUR CHILDREN (OH NO!) via their breakfast cereals. Well, read this.
Things you won’t see on CBC…

THE South African government has begun the process of seizing land from white farmers.
Local newspaper City Press reports two game farms in the northern province of Limpopo are the first to be targeted for unilateral seizure after negotiations with the owners to purchase the properties stalled.
Isn’t “social justice”, aided and abetted by “liberation theology”, wonderful?
Amazing how different the national conversation is in a country with a free press, where journalists are able and willing expose both the gay agenda and the nation’s enemies.
“Sixty-six percent of Russians agreed with the statement that ‘there is a group of people who seek to rewrite Russian history and replace the historical fact in order to hurt Russia and diminish its greatness.’
“Another 63 percent of people said they agreed with a statement that ‘a group of people are trying to destroy the spiritual values formed by Russians through the propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations.'”
It was a rather vague comment. Did he defend his calling her a racist or was he justifying his temper tantrum? Both?
I’ve lived in Canada since the last months of Louis St. Laurent’s government. I cannot recall ever seeing or hearing of a senior politician, let alone a prime minister, behave in such an unruly and childish manner as Prince Valueless did. The closest to that would probably have been the “fuddle duddle” incident in the House, courtesy of PET and even that was likely far more restrained.
He’s gone well past being a laughingstock and is now a national embarrassment.
Do you remember the first time this animal barged across the House of Commons floor, elbowed a female NDP MP in the boob and tried to separate a Liberal and Conservative MP who were kibitzing jokingly? That was the first time the public was given notice about his childishness.
@7:44 pm Ken K
…or when he shouted in the House of Commons to
Peter Kent Conservative MP Thornhill ON ” to eat….” uh, you know the rest.
I recall the elbowing incident, which is bad enough, though I’ve read enough excerpts from Hansard to know that the House of Commons is far from being a forum of civility and self-restraint.
But what happened the other day was unprecedented. He not only blew a head gasket, but he publicly berated an ordinary citizen, a taxpayer and, presumably, a voter. Worse, members of his security detail manhandled her.
No political leader, particularly a prime minister, should ever allow that to happen.
@9:30 pm B A
“Worse, members of his security detail manhandled her.”
A comment elsewhere that I just read went as follows: this occurance is “assalt, attempted false arrest, excessive use of force, intimidation, abuse of police power… all felonies that this RCMP officer should face.”
Sixty-one shot and eight killed over the weekend in Chicagoland.
“Police Supt. Eddie Johnson said “it doesn’t take a rocket scientist” to figure out why the shootings keep happening: the shooters don’t fear any significant consequences in court.”
No shit Sherlock. In the meantime, major Canadian cities are looking at gun control to stop the shootings north of the border.

I won’t bother as I don’t live in his area so he wouldn’t care. But others who do might want to send him a polite point of view.

“Australia abandons pledge to limit greenhouse gas emissions”
“CANBERRA, Australia — Australia’s prime minister on Monday abandoned plans to legislate to limit greenhouse gas emissions to head off a revolt by conservative lawmakers.
Malcolm Turnbull on Monday conceded that he could not get legislation through the House of Representatives where his conservative coalition holds only a single-seat majority.
He said although most government lawmakers supported the target of reducing Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions by 26 per cent below 2005 levels, that support was not enough.”
I was wondering how Faith Goldy was doing in the Toronto election campaign. It is interesting that there is not a mention of her on any website that she doesn’t own. No-one names the 35 people running for mayor and no-one has published a poll since nominations closed. I’m guessing that there have been polls but they have been suppressed.
The media claim they won’t cover anyone until they break 5% in the polls, but won’t include names other than their two choices in polls.
Last one I saw had “other” running around 58%.
Just saw a news item on CTVNN that mentions there could be problems for those muslim Canadians wishing to get to Mecca for this years Haj.
Now wouldn’t that be ironic, the demographic the Sockmonkey values so highly being made to choose which citizenship matters to them and if they will bend on a matter of faith because of a diplomatic spat started by the Sockmonkey.
Somehow though I strongly doubt this was an outcome he expected to happen.
sentenced to 27 years, out in 9 years. 58 year old rubashkin ran and owned America’s largest kosher meat plant (Agriprocessors) in Portsville Iowa. On may 12th 2008 FBI raided the plant. Finding 389 illegals working at the plant. at the time it was the largest raid in USA history. Originally, prosecution looked for a LIFE SNTENCE!!! Ultimately, mr. shitskin was found guilty on 86 counts of Federal Bank Fraud and other money related issues.
“This action is not a Presidential pardon. It does not vacate Mr. Rubashkin’s conviction, and it leaves in place a term of supervised release and a substantial restitution obligation, which were also part of Mr. Rubashkin’s sentence.
The President’s review of Mr. Rubashkin’s case and commutation decision were based on expressions of support from Members of Congress and a broad cross-section of the legal community. A bipartisan group of more than 100 former high-ranking and distinguished Department of Justice (DOJ) officials, prosecutors, judges, and legal scholars have expressed concerns about the evidentiary proceedings in Mr. Rubashkin’s case and the severity of his sentence. Additionally, more than 30 current Members of Congress have written letters expressing support for review of Mr. Rubashkin’s case.”

Right then.
In the courtyard, of the Queen,
Breathes a fire,
Still, Serene.
She discovers, it is hers;
It is magic,
It endures.
This reminds me of “Old Angel MIdnight” by Jack Kerouac.
New year dawning,
We fly free,
Small thread of magic,
Binds you, to me.
Things to say before Sex.
Phosphorescent wake,
I, have never seen,
Beckons me,
In my dreams.
First star of the night,
Summer dream,
Pure delight.
Midnight magic,
It would seem;
Love is best,
With peaches and cream.
Here let me fix that headline for you.
They ran out of other peoples money
https://business.financialpost.com/news/economy/they-ran-out-of-money-venezuela-launches-one-of-the-greatest-currency-devaluations-in-history
Here’s the endgame:

He only runs from tough questions.

” He only runs from tough questions”

THE South African government has begun the process of seizing land from white farmers.
Local newspaper City Press reports two game farms in the northern province of Limpopo are the first to be targeted for unilateral seizure after negotiations with the owners to purchase the properties stalled.
https://www.news.com.au/finance/economy/world-economy/south-africa-begins-seizing-whiteowned-farms/news-story/8937f899bd3f131bfc4ffb648ea5c53b

This is the first I’ve seen of this. Prime Minister Sparkles deflects answering a perfectly legitimate question, calling the woman who asked it a racist.
@7:44 pm Ken K
@9:30 pm B A
“Worse, members of his security detail manhandled her.”
A comment elsewhere that I just read went as follows: this occurance is “assalt, attempted false arrest, excessive use of force, intimidation, abuse of police power… all felonies that this RCMP officer should face.”

The Altering of the Deal

TRUMP commutes Sholom Rubashkin prison sentence
sentenced to 27 years, out in 9 years.
