The NSA is effectively noting that collected call logs are infected with errors. The NSA cannot isolate or fix these errors. As a result, the NSA is actively purging all the data they have ever collected.
By all data I mean every bit of data collected under the USA Freedom Act of 2015 (Fact sheet here). About 685 million call logs.
Which is pretty odd given that this matter was supposedly addressed back in early 2017.

If it is either time consuming or requires current administration sign off to parse out the self incriminating evidence the go to is to just get rid of all records.
Sure hope there isn’t any ongoing critical investigations with actual security requirements.
There was a scene in a war movie where the personnel in a German HQ were destroying and burning files as fast as possible because the Soviets were going to capture Berlin sooner rather than later. This act reminds me of that scene.

Trump should order the records be maintained and perused. Again, maybe he has some minor embarrassments from illegal phone taps. The swamp rats are running for cover.
Absolutely. I have been screaming ever since I first heard of HER deleted emails (about knitting, yoga, wedding plans, etc.) that the NSA needed to produce those emails, calls, etc. FORTHWITH!!! I STILL want the NSA to order their massive UTAH data center to produce 30,000+ emails … or have all its funding shut down … permanently.
I have a … need to know … as a US Citizen … what my government has been doing in the dark … against the interests of the American people.

Knowledge is power. Do you believe the alphabet agencies are actually making all that data permenantly unavailable to absolutely everyone or are they just making it plausible to say, “I’m sorry senator the information you are requesting has been deleted?”
I believe you guys are looking at the meaning behind this “purge” incorrectly. Keep in mind that the last administration weaponized all alphabet agencies politically. The NSA, specifically, was open to outside contractors hired as a cut out by the administration to come in and help themselves to private information. You might recall Maxine Waters (back in 2013) bragging about how Obama had the best database ever created to help win elections. Admiral Rogers made a few moves to limit this. But, it continued under the radar.
The recent purge is, basically, disposing of the collected data that should not have been collected in the first place. It’s, also, a pretty good bet that certain parts of the meta data were held onto with vigor…inclusive of whomever might be named in the massive indictments that still remain sealed.
It’s interesting how quickly some people have completely pulled a 180 on their stance against wholesale surveillance on an entire populace.
Yeah, not an encouraging sign. Not deleting this ill gotten private information would be the height of hypocrisy on the current administration. Personally, I would like a complete list of those subcontractors brought in to mine data, and whom they are connected to specifically. That would go a long way to solidifying the connection between the political weaponizing of our intelligence agencies and a specific political party. It’s a good bet Fusion GPS is one of them. I wouldn’t be surprised to see an arm of GOOGLE involved as well which might be connected to the departure of Eric Schmidt. But, there would have had to be a whole lot of these entities coming in to mine data, and lots of money spread around for the service. Whose money? Where did it come from? Was Obama so brash as to pay them with tax payer money? Because if he did, then Trump’s little executive order on asset seizure in government corruption cases takes on a whole new meaning. He slipped that in when they were complaining about his two scoops of ice cream. Corruption in that order is described specifically as improper use US government funds.

So… if I have this correct, the call data records from FISA warrants had errors (calls logged that were “out of scope of the warrants”). These records are illegal and apparently intertwined with “legitimately” logged calls (we know some of the FISAs were BS but let’s play on). These are scope errors as defined by who? Did the I.G. stop by and review the warrants, audit the call logs, and reach this conclusion? (Ha!) Has the NSA suddenly become so concerned with scope compliance without external oversight that 5 years of data including that pertaining to very legitimate targets has to be discarded?
I think it quite probable that the Trump campaign warrants ricocheted and collected phone records of calls between Russian officials / known operatives and high ranking Democrats / officials within the Obama administration. Just like Brennan cleansed Obama’s (citizenship) State Department records, these records must now disappear. But all five years makes for larger questions. Would we find high ranking government and elected officials caught up in a large number of call data records gathered through FISA court warrants over the past five years?
