There are much bigger hills to die on, Conservatives. For all intent and purpose, those found guilty of weed possession are pardoned anyway.

Heroin possession too?
Go to a safe injection site, get free heroin and a pardon.
I’d like a safe bank robebry site. AFter all, the need for money is a socially constructed artefact of the patriarchy.
so the code seems to be…..get enough people to break the law…and they get rid of the law
Yeah, like Prohibition. I wonder of some families will make their fortune in pot and become part of the Establishment as happened in the 20’s and 30’s.
Scheer should stand in the House and declare that he will make pot illegal again if the CPC forms a majority government. If you’re gonna take the bait ,might as well swallow it hook, line, and sinker.
Maybe reconsider abortion and gay marriage too while you’re at it.
Don, sadly some bible thumping a$$hole would support that, and loose the election. They can’t figure out that sitting in opposition is not how you craft laws, and get them passed. They love snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, just for their emotional based bullshit!!!
I’m a law and order guy but if pot smoking is legal, pardon everyone guilty of possession of consumer quantities. Anything else is ludicrous as they can all get pardons anyhow.
Keep in mind those aren’t really pardons. Only the Justice Minister can issue a full pardon; what you’re talking about is record suspensions. That means they won’t show up on a criminal record background check in Canada, but they do show up if you cross the border into the US and can be used to deny you entry.
I swear some conservatives have smoked pot their whole damn lives and are simply incapable of learning. When will we ever, ever fricking learn- if you don’t have principles on the small things then you don’t have principles on the big.
It’s a small thing, let it fly – fry bigger fish, keep your powder dry, etc, etc, efrickintc.
At some point, every conservative should really sit and and ponder these simple but obvious questions:
1) if these are such small things for conservatives, why are they such important things for the left?
2) why are conservatives always suppose to compromise on these small things?
3) how many small things did you need to have run over you before you realise that you’ve been steam rolled.
Wake the hell up. With the left the game is not about any one small issue, it is about attacking the west on ALL THE ISSUES, ALL THE TIME.
Agreed . This is much like the head covering / face covering – you will end up as cannon fodder , even though you never brought it up .
The FDA in America just approved a “patent” medicine which is basically high strength CBD oil from cannabis (weed). The DEA is going to change CBD from a forbidden street drug to a legit pharmaceutical because of this one approval. That’s federal, not California.
Why?
Because it is an anti-seizure medication that works on otherwise intractable cases of seizure disorders, and tested out as reducing the frequency and severity of seizures by 40%. With zero side effects. There’s nothing else out there in the pharmacopeia that does that.
Now, people are not stupid as a general rule, and they weren’t stupid back in the past either. Doctors particularly are not stupid, and they would have known CBD oil was effective with seizures. Regardless of anything medical professionals and the pharma industry said, back in the day, the government went right ahead and banned cannabis. AKA corruption, on a grand scale.
Now we’re going to have the evil weed legalized again. Why? To make money for the Liberal party members, and for the taxes. Again, regardless of anything medical professionals, pharma, public health or anybody else has to say about it. That the people who have been using it medically have been demanding it get legalized, this is not the reason for legalization. The real reason is corruption. Again.
So y’all hardliners arguing that a law is a law, and a record for simple possession should stand no matter what, maybe take a step back and realize you’re trading one set of corruption for another, and maybe throwing people in jail for breaking a regulation might not be such a great idea.
In a FREE country, people make up their own minds about things like smoking, drinking, sleeping around and doing drugs. You don’t get to decide for them and toss them in jail if they argue. That’s the thing about freedom that some guys have a hard time understanding, people are free to do stuff wrong if they want. Its their choice.
That said, do not let your kids and young adults smoke a bunch of weed. There’s evidence that it might not be good for their growing brain. Also emphysema is an ugly way to die. You’ve been warned.
Agreed all around. Plus with a few there are schizophrenia issues.
Which hills be those?
In fact, while we are at it, why not …
Scheer seems to have a predisposition to pander as demonstrated here:
http://business.financialpost.com/opinion/william-watson-trust-a-quebec-government-with-federal-tax-revenues-are-conservatives-nuts
This type of pandering leads to saying one thing in French and a different thing in English.
On the upside it may lead to separation of Qc that could be used as a model for other unhappy Provinces.
Oh you left out the best part: a couple weeks ago, Trudeau mused about relaxing dairy tariffs to appease Trump. Scheer pounced. Whose the problem for trade relations now?
Scheer is going to take the CPC’s habitual Quebec-nationalist pandering up to 11. BloCPC. It would be stupid even if Q nationalists were a less and less important aspect of a less and less important province.
If Trudeau had any brains, he’d dump supply management and let the Cons tear each other apart.
Once pot is legal, go after the NHL, NBA, IOC and anyone else that wants to proscribe it’s use. Because we’re Canadians and can do better than that.
As for me, seeing the damage Justin’s brain has suffered, I’m not inclined to recreational pot use – legal or not.
The damage to Justin’s brain is genetic, not pot induced. He’s probably bi-polar like Mom and may very well be on some powerful medication,: Olanzapine (Zyprexa)
Quetiapine (Seroquel)
Risperidone (Risperdal)
Ariprazole (Abilify)
Ziprasidone (Geodon)
Clozapine (Clozaril)
Some of those have side effects. Actually, all of them do, but the pharma industry makes billions off of ’em, and there’s no reason you can’t run a country while under the influence of those drugs. (need I say “sarc”?)
I don’t care what adults do that doesn’t hurt anyone else.
But lets toughen some of those sick fuker punishments like for pedophiles. A good trade: some people get to smoke some hemp, and those fuckers can hang from a length of hemp. (Anyone who coddles pedos should hang with them.) Although shooting them, electrocuting them or drowning them in liquid shit would be fine as well.
Our family has always said “he inherited his mother’s brains as well as her looks!” This is not a compliment.
Not a pot smoker but I have noticed that prior to Trudeau’s announcement on the “when” pot will be legal there were very few cautionary tales about marijuana use. But in the past week there have been a number of stories including a stepping stone to heavy drug use, effect on the minds of young developing brains, second-hand pot smoke for children, and pot as an addiction. Here I thought it was the wonder drug. I seemed to be getting paranoid and the munchies…
You forgot the Juth-tin party line.
“Kids will be thafer from pot, more than ever.”
So, with it legal, more available and easier to obtain, it will be harder for “kids” to get? Spare me the stupidity Sock Boy………
Not many people realize how devastating legalization of growing pot will be on small time landlords. Now you cannot get rid of a pothead tenant and even if they pay the rent on time (yeah right) they will be damaging your property. Pot requires heat and moist environment, this means mold. Just another consequence of Justine’s feel good policy designed to please lowlifes like UnMedicated at the expense of the productive middle class that libranos despise.
We are facing this problem with one of our kids who lives in a basement apartment. Two men moved into the apartment above and soon after the humidity went up to 80% causing a serious mold problem. The landlord is willing to help us out but can’t get rid of the tenants. No one wants to phone the police because who knows how the (alleged) pot growers would respond. We’re feeling a bit Swedish (helpless in our own country) at the moment.
Soon calling police will not matter because growing this $hit will be legal, damage to someone else’s property or their health be damned. Worse yet, landlords will be required to take care of the mold caused by the grow up. Meanwhile, lowlife potheads like UnMedicated will herald it as a great step for freedom.
It is a great step for freedom. Newsflash: it’s grown indoors illegally because it’s illegal.
And now it will be grown legally and do the same damage as when it was grown illegally. The landlords will not be able to do anything about the damage their pothead tenants will do and landlords will forced to pay for mold removal and deal with the extra depreciation in the value of their property. Of course you could not care less about the damage potheads like you do to others (especially if those others happen to be white people that you hate anyway). indeed in accordance with librano tradition the more damage you can do to middle class the better.
“And now it will be grown legally and do the same damage as when it was grown illegally.”
No it won’t at least not nearly as much. Legal markets will undercut that demand.
Read the legislation idiot, every pothead can now legally grow their own dope. Whether they grow four plants of forty, they still need the same level of humidity and temperature, hence mold and damage. Except it becomes legal and landlords will not be able to evict potheads. Better yet, the same potheads can now demand landlords take care of the mold that the potheads themselves grown.
Besides, the limit of four plants per residence is fictional from the start. Since it is now legal, none will be counting the plants.
I thought libertarians cared about property rights. Right, only when it suits them. Again you’re full of $hit.
If a person wants a pardon, they should pay the cost of the pardon. Taxpayers should pay nothing. And if they want a pardon, the facts of the charge in the first place should be reviewed because, notwithstanding the arm waving to the contrary, there are very few people who have been charged with simple possession…..there is almost ALWAYS much more to the story than simple possession.
bongo’s old man wasn’t the most stable guy as well.
bongo’s use of pot combined with any of the above in dm’s comment would make a potent cocktail. We’ve all seen him when he is genuinely confused, incapable of organizing his thoughts or finding a word. His old man did the same thing only not to the same extent.
I think he might be heavily medicated. It wouldn’t surprise me if he had to step away to seek treatment.
Let me tell you what this is about. China is already helping to finance its war machine with exports of fentanyl to the US. (Murdering thousands of Americans a year is gravy.)
Beijing’s order to its Canadian collaborators is to set up as America’s drug dealer.
This isn’t a joke. If this isn’t Trump’s cue for a real trade embargo and an end to visa-free travel to the US, what could be? Do you really want your car torn apart and to be strip searched every time you try to get gas or buy edible cheese?
“Beijing’s order to its Canadian collaborators is to set up as America’s drug dealer.”
Cool. Chinada just gets better and better.
Yes for lowlife racist potheads like you it gets better. Such is the librano way.
The progressives are slowly implementing their complete agenda for the destruction of our society, one hill not worth fighting for at a time.
Disclaimer: I live in BC and do not partake of the demon weed. I think that in itself is fairly unusual.
The main problem I foresee with legalized marijuana and its likely consequence, increased pot smoking, is problems on the highways of the nation. We were driving through WA state not too long ago, where as you know weed has been legal for several years. They have seen quite an increase in highway accidents. But pot smokers are a different breed of dangerous driver, almost the opposite of drunks.
Case in point, we were driving north from Seattle in a steady stream of three-lane traffic on the I-5. Suddenly we became aware of a lot of driving chaos ahead of us. Somebody was driving at about 30 mph in the middle lane. You can imagine what this was doing to traffic in that middle lane and the other two lanes as people more or less randomly bailed out and switched lanes to get around this obstacle. Eventually it led to gridlock as drivers in all three lanes started slowing down, honking at this person to get moving or off the road. So they suddenly sped up and raced away at about 80 mph. A few minutes later, we came upon the end game of this bizarre episode (no doubt a buzzed driver) with the car in the median spun out just short of that bridge that the truck took out a few years back.
I predict we will get this sort of result in Canada. At least with drunks, you know two things, they will weave and they will speed. But with buzzed drivers, the fantasies may be far more complex. Get ready for them on a highway near you. Oh, you know what man, driving in the right direction is so lame, like dude, let’s go the wrong way, like dude.
Thanks, Justin. I guess your limousine will still be travelling on closed down highways and you won’t be driving (thank goodness).
There is no evidence that MJ legalization has caused an increase in driving accidents in WA or CO.
Too precise of language. “Proof”? No. But there is enough circumstantial evidence to validate the hypothesis.
Last June: Study: Colorado sees car crash claim rates increase after legalization of marijuana.
Last August: Traffic fatalities linked to marijuana are up sharply in Colorado. Is legalization to blame?
etc…
Other than the headline, there is zero information under your first link and your second link states ” Nearly a dozen in 2016 had levels five times the amount allowed by law, and one was at 22 times the limit.”
Five times the levels allowed by law, eh? I fail to see the link between legalization and people who use five times or more the amount allowed by law. Logically, there is no connection between what the law allows and what the law does not allow with these people.
Lastly, I remind people reading these anti-marijuana propaganda pieces that Correlation is NOT Causation.
If you do not know what that means, you should recuse yourself from the argument and abstain from voting.
Conservatives shouldn’t worry much about legalizing Silly Smoke as in terms of brain damage, it’s a relatively slow agent compared to say, public education, the CBC, or Hollywood. Besides, the damage is mostly done to progressives and to be honest, if I supported The LPC, NDP, or Greens, I would want to keep my brain as numb as possible. How else could an otherwise sane person rationalize supporting them but to exist in a fog of emotional knee-jerk responses, green theology, and nihilism.
It only took 13 years to realize that prohibition didn’t work with alchohol and caused more problems than, you know, the problem.
Banning marijuana and opiates was a stupid and unjust law from the start. We didn’t have any such laws until 1908. Was Canada a drug addled hell hole before then? How is it my business what you do in your spare time? If I can stop you from smoking weed I can stop you from eating salt, or fat, or sugar, or meat. For the children, dontcha know.
The mindset that bans drugs is the Treudopian mindset that bans “emissions”, for the children.
I also firmly believe the drugs are quite dangerous. But if the gene pool needs a good cleanout, and it sure seems to, drugs are the easiest way to go. I get the impression that most drug users are leftists and drug users don’t breed so much. Am I right?
The problem is a big time dealer with any smarts and a decent lawyer will plead down to simple possession. I don’t care about the university students who gets caught with a joint, they’re rarely charged anyway, most of the possession convictions over the past number of years are actually dealers.
