The Sound Of Settled Science

Climatologist Dr. Judith Curry explains her conversion to skeptic as she is set to debate Michael Mann

The 1992 UN Climate Change treaty was signed by 190 countries before the balance of scientific evidence suggested even a discernible human influence on global climate. The 1997 Kyoto Protocol was implemented before we had any confidence that most of the warming was caused by humans. There was tremendous political pressure on the IPCC scientists to present findings that would support these treaties, which resulted in a manufactured consensus.

  1. Best of luck to Dr. Curry. She will need it to fight the new religion and its fraud.

  2. The sound of settled science is letting your just cooked burger rest for 5 minutes before serving. This will make 2 large patties.

    The Nothing Burger:

    MIX IN bowl :
    1 pound lean ground beef
    1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
    1 garlic clove chopped
1 and 1/2 teaspoons Worchestershire sauce
    1 teaspoon ketchup
1 or 2 finely chopped green onions

Make 2 eight ounce patties 3/4 inch thick x 4 & 1/2 inches across with dimple in middle. Pre-heat pan medium – high, then reduce to medium. Cook till done, flipping once. Let rest 5 minutes before serving.

    1. Nancy … Nancy … surely you KNOW that all meat eating will be banned if we hope to save the planet … how could you …?

      1. Heh, heh, heh!
        Enjoy!

You get your weekly salt dose as well…gotta keep those synapses going!

  3. i accepted AGW as a plausible theory when i first studied it in 1988 at university, but even then i wondered why the prof was so sure about that issue since one of the prevailing themes of the course was “don’t mess with nature” because you can’t predict what will happen. I knew it had become dogma pretty quickly, but i had no idea it was only four years. I guess he played his small part in the hustle.
Another thing i learned from him: it’s okay to lie when it’s for a good cause….

    1. “Another thing i learned from him: it’s okay to lie when it’s for a good cause….”
      So the warmists are Muslim?

    2. well now Rudy, I will post the most relevant sentence from that article. JC said, ” I also aligned with left-hand side, because I thought supporting the IPCC consensus was the responsible thing to do.'” And there we have it folks, even Judith just went along because it was the “thing” to do. Urnolists are plain stupid believers. And much of the Joe six packs out there are to busy getting the boat ready for the cottage, or pushing their religious dogma, to even bother getting informed.

    3. I simply accepted global warming as a fact until Climategate. A theory is obviously false when the primary researchers conspire to hide fake evidence. That ended any thoughts for me that it was even a debatable subject. It is simply a lie.

      1. The East Anglia University email scandal put a permanent crack in the dark, CO2 cult, for sure.
After that, each and every fraudulent aspect’s exposure, nourished the “Denier” cause.
The spotlight kept growing, and growing. Along with the corruption in the media, where most opinions are prepackaged.
        Interesting times…….

    4. “Another thing i learned from him: it’s okay to lie when it’s for a good cause….”. Marxists believe that whatever advances the cause is truth, no matter how blatant a lie. What RN says is also true with Islam practicing Taquia, which amounts to the same thing. I believe Goebbels also adhered to that principle as does much of MSM today.

  4. I followed the National Post Junk Science articles, in which CAGW was highly prominent.

Great piece by Dr. Curry. As for the debate, it reminds me of a debate in my 3rd year at RMC in the mid-80s.

It was about the Free Trade Agreement between Dr Richard Lipsey, co-author of the definitive Intro Economics textbook, and Mel Hurtig of the Council of Canadians.

No need to tell anyone who was pro and con.

I had extra tickets and offered them to some of my profs and they all declined, the general consensus being in a debate on free trade, Lipsey and Hurtig didn’t “belong in the same room.”

No need to tell anyone whom they thought didn’t belong in same the room.

No need to tell anyone who understands climate change who doesn’t belong in the same room.

  5. In the absence of mass hysteria (pimping) and rent seeking bounty, JC’s points are what I would expect from any reasonably scientific professional. Skepticism is the essence of scientific inquiry.

  6. my nitpick:
in the cartoon in the link the bloke holding the elephant’s tail is saying ” . . .is a chaotic system that experiments climatic shifts” s.b. EXPERIENCES climatic shifts.

I chalk it up to a crappy and acceleratingly worse edjukashunal cystem.

  7. My own skepticism about AGW began when I first heard Al Gore being interviewed by Charlie Rose. I know a “BS”er when I hear one pontificate, and Al was one big “BS”er.

  8. “What makes most sense to me is Climate Pragmatism, which has been formulated by the Hartwell group. Climate pragmatism has 3 pillars:

    Accelerate energy innovation
    Build resilience to extreme weather
    No regrets pollution reduction.”

If I were feeling especially cruel, I’d suggest Dr. Curry take her proposals directly to the governments of the biggest polluters on earth, India and China.

Two key pillars of the Chinese business model are to keep costs low by doing nearly nothing to control pollution of the national and global environment by Chinese industry—and a global propaganda campaign blaming the west for the consequences.
