48 Replies to “What Caused Trump to Turn on Trudeau?”

  1. This is not a revelation. Trump himself said that he shook hands with JT and left in understanding that they have an agreement. Only after he left, sockboy has started mumbling about being “pushed around”.

btw..if US looks only from strategic point of view, the synchronization of Canadian and American economy will happen sooner or later

  2. Even the extreme left are beginning to question the wisdom of opposing a sunset clause.

Turns out imposing a free trade agreement without the explicit consent of the people and making it impossible to renegotiate helped expose globalist “democracy” as the travesty it is.

“When [Trump] offers a better approximation of the people’s champion than any other leader,” warms the Grauniad’s George Monbiot, “you know [the globalist travesty of] democracy is in trouble.”

  3. PET POT Cemetery Report.

“Trudeau: I said no to NAFTA sunset clause
NEWS May 31, 2018 The Canadian Press”

    …-

The above brought this conclusion to the forefront in the postings:

    >>> Stupid Liberal Justine’s War on Canada.

The NO told all: Unbeknownst this boast/jibe from SLJ was the opening salvo in SLJ’s War on Canada.

  4. This was what I had been thinking from the start -that there was a disconnect between the private meeting with Trump and Justin’s silly posing in front of the media. I was also aware of how sensitive the issue would be with the Kim meeting the next day. This makes a lot of sense. Our boy Justin screwed up. Maybe Scheer can remove his name from that letter of support. Justin is now using the US trade deal and Canadians dislike of Trump to sabotage the economy. Trudeau is out to ruin Canada.

    1. You’re just discovering that? When Gateway (a permitted pipeline deal) was scrapped by the LPOC & then a tanker ban imposed on the north coast of BC, to make sure that Gateway would never be resurrected, this .gov was plainly out to “get” Alberta & destroy it’s economy. Saskatchewan because it’s next door. He didn’t even need Notley’s NDP to do this. Then his pals in Quebec stuck the knife in on the other coast.

The sight of all these CPC seals “standing with Trudeau” on car trade, aluminum & steel tariffs against that evil Trump, USA, just like true blue United Empire Loyalists was bad enough. To have the CPC line up & shaft everyday consumers in their own ridings on “managed trade”, then expect all Canadians to rally round the flag boys on the other stuff……..I’ve posted it here before: “If I wanted to vote Liberal, I would have”. Now it’s “I’m voting Liberal, because at least I know what I’m getting”. Snakes.

    2. He’s going to ride anti Americanism through re-election. Same old liberal playbook. When down in the polls stir up trouble with America.

  5. Americans have:

    – offered a bilateral deal
    – suggested zero tariffs across board
    – conceded on the sunset clause
    – kept the dispute focused on trade, not politics

    Canada has:

    – leaked a private call to ridicule the president
    – escalated a trade spat into a political rift at every opportunity
    – ignored the zero tariff proposal
    – insisted on a trilateral deal with Mexico
    – responded to the American perspective of progress at the G7 with more political posturing

The Liberals are looking at polls and deciding to use this issue to hide behind the flag.

Too many Canadians are joining them without realizing the enormous costs involved.

    The Cons are a joke.

    1. The thing, Chip, is that the Liberals can not hide behind this forever.

Justin has walked from all manner of international with nothing to benefit Canada at all or in any significant way. I think this deal may be his last screw-up before even his doltish admirers throw their hands in the air and give up.

    2. Two things:

Did Trump actually concede on the sunset clause?

The suggestion of zero tarriffs or subsidies, while perfectly sound economically, is fantasyland politically. Trump is virtue signalling here. All politicans love wholesale politics, viz., doing favours for specific groups at the expense of society.

As Frederic (sp?) Bastiat taught us: consider the “what is seen” vs “what is unseen”. Goodies for specific groups are seen (and the beneficiaries are often posed in the oval office) whereas the damage across the economy is diffuse and therefore unseen.

Advocating zero tarrifs is akin to a beauty pageant contestant wishing for “world peace”. Laughably naive.

Which is not at all to suggest that I have anything but contempt for our student council president PM.

      1. “Advocating zero tariffs is akin to a beauty pageant contestant wishing for “world peace”. Laughably naive.”

Is advocating zero income taxes also laughably naive?

How far are you willing to compromise?

        1. YES.
I’ve been a libertarian for decades.
Or more accurately an anarcho capitalist ala Murray Rothbard.
BUT it shall never EVER be so I’ve given up the hobby.

        2. Free trade would mean no interference by government in economic matters. It’s been a long time since free trade.

          1. Exactly.

And as the economists of the Austrian School point out nations don’t trade. Individual producers and consumers from all over the world do the trading.

Everything government touches it fkucs up.
In the matter of trade they fkuc up via wholesale vote buying through preferential treatment for special interests at the expense of the society in general.

      2. well Me No, you proved that you didn’t understand the discussion when posting against ET, now you show you have NO bludy clue as to how Trump negotiates, how to negotiate in general. Just go back to sleep!

  6. What did Larry Kudlow say? “ He stabbed us in the back.” Trudles can’t be trusted. He has now made himself a cash only customer with Trump. He will have to publicly make a concession before Trump will agree to it. As they say, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me- There will be no more good faith olive branches extended to Trudles. Nice to see that the PCs went on record approving of duplicitousness as government policy.

  7. Certainly explains why the Conservatives were pressing Pony in the house this week on the sunset clause.

As is his usual approach to everything he is asked, he evaded giving an answer to the question.

      1. You will have to sit through a nauseating opener by Trudeau at the beginning before he finally gets around to his usual non-answers.
Not orth the time then is it?

  8. Don Lenihan:
I believe Trump is a narcissist, and I mean that in the clinical sense. …. Narcissists are too wound up in themselves to see things through someone else’s eyes. It is as though every situation revolves around them.

Trump is the President of the United States. Like it or not, every situation does revolve around him.

    1. Also, a narcissist is actually very insecure and can not handle criticism. Trump invites it, he goes out looking for it, he happily enrages his opponents so that they will spend their time attacking him personally while he goes after his objectives.

When I see someone trying to sound intellectual making ad hominem attacks and they are clearly wrong and not even understanding the ad hominem they are using, I assume I can dismiss their opinions as irrelevant.

  9. Every agreement has a sunset clause aka a termination clause. Either party may terminate this agreement based on the following… if you default on the terms, if I default, if we mutually agree that the agreement is no longer beneficial…etc…etc. But you can also have a renewal clause. Provided that both parties mutually agree this agreement will be extended for another five years…etc…etc.

Even unions have agreements with the government that expire. Times change.

    1. Sunset and termination are two different things. The current NAFTA agreement has a termination mechanism.

  10. Not too worried, actually. Maxime Bernier will make an excellent Prime Minister of Canada,

    1. He will—after Canada’s liberation by the armed forces of the United States.

    2. We have to wait until Scheer loses the next election

      1. Well, Joe Who Two just assured his loss, by falling in line with Soy Boy.

        Beyond disappointing.

  11. To make a long story short, the 98 pound weakling kicks sand at the huge body builder to impress his girlfriend, then squeals when the body builder bitch slaps him.

Full disclosure. Yes, I am American, and I fully support my president. I think he has done very well at the G7 until betrayed by Li’l Spud while flying to a more meaningful international meeting. I would have been unhappy with him if he wasn’t unhappy with that. And I fully applaud his skipping out before the “global warming” phase of the meeting. It was either that or make a bigger stink, since I know, and he knows, and all of you know, that is the biggest scam in the history of mankind.

    1. Actually, I doubt that bothered Trump in the least. He’s probably heard all the stories about his ancestor anyways. What was interesting is how quickly other trolls assumed it had to be a brothel as opposed to a multi-use hotel.

  12. It’s simple. He had his mind made up to do it before g7 even took place. What Trudeau said or did doesn’t matter.

    1. I think you are wrong. It is Trudeau who was not negotiating in good faith. Trump’s anger was justified.

    2. allen Stupid, why do you lefties never get it. Oh, a 2013 study showed “empathy” is not your forte. But it’s nice you carry the stupid ball when Undork is absent

      1. Whistles and bells! Loud music! Fireworks!! High fives all around.!!

NME000 has finally done it!!! He has called everyone on SDA to be either a liar, stupid, ignorant or queer.

        BCer

  13. I wonder if Scheer gets his understanding of politics from the CBC. Someone should tell him that if you are a Conservative, the CBC is not your friend. I hope he realizes he is losing conservative support by backing the incompetent Trudeau.

    1. I agree. No one I know who wants Trudeau gone is happy with Scheer being a Liberal fan boy in his anti Trump tirade. No cash for the Cons from me. And I really don’t want anything to do with anything Liberal….

      1. I agree. Also remember, Scheer whipped his MPs to vote for the Paris Accord fraud, and only brave Cheryl Gallant voted no.

    2. Scheer is also making a huge mistake if he insists on, as reported, mollycoddling and jumping into bed with the Separatists in Quebec. Why do politicians feel they must sell their souls to
Quebec to earn their treacherous support.

I guess they will never learn.

  14. One of the tactics used by the Canadians is to travel around the US lobbying senators, congressman, businessmen etc about how NAFTA works and how it implicates them. The Canadians have probably spent as much time doing that as actually sitting down with the US team.
I understand why they are doing this but somehow it appears unseemly. It’s almost akin to interfering in an election in a foreign country.
I can’t imagine this tactic is appreciated by Trump?

  15. I watched the Turdo News Conference and wondered why CBC did not follow up on the question near the end by a Journalist, or NGO
that suggested his reported 3.8 billion for woman help was incorrect.. He babbled something about real cash and other
commitments (World Bank & EU were to come in kind)…. Who at the World bank reconfirmed their verbal commitment after the dust-up… How much was confirmed cash and how much was in carbon credits?

    JMHO

  16. Trudeau thought he had the good faith deal in the bag. Before it gets publicity he thinks he can get the tough guy talk in front of the press and when the deal does goes public he can claim his tough talk made it happen; he then struts etc. etc.. To make this work he couldn’t wait because the deal would get out first. What a fool.

  17. The twits on Washington Press were all atwitter over “Justin Trudeau just hilariously trolled Trump with a surprise G7 gift”. The site’s politics is evident by that heading of the article, which called Trump “contentious” and yet it was Trudeau who “secretly trolled” Trump by presenting him with a photograph of his grandfather’s supposed brothel in British Columbia. The site denizens were all atwitter because they thought Trump was too stupid to not recognize the dig, as though they thought Trudeau were so much more world wise than Trump, LOL. What would they have Trump do? They would have been unhappy had Trump exploded at the gift. In any case, that’s no big deal. I’d much rather have a grandfather who ran a brothel than a pirate and smuggling ship, supposedly inclusive of slaves, as the grandfather of the Dems’ sainted JFK did.

If true, the (non) incident only serves to illustrate both the fact that Trump has a much better sense of humor and graciousness than these denizens, and that from the beginning Trudeau was treating the whole meeting as a lark, as nothing more than a chance to put one over on Trump, or perhaps even provoking him, as though the G7 meeting were a grade school playground. When that didn’t work, Trudeau went off the deep end by reneging on agreements on the treaty, and that did, rightly, provoke Trump. Because that’s the real world, even if Trudeau is too stupid to recognize the difference between the two stunts.

  18. There were three players in that little Trudeau brothel farce; Him, The President…and the public, who mercilessly rolled out Mommy Dearest’s bad behavior memes. It’s likely that anyone under the age of 35 wouldn’t even have been aware of Justin’s rather gamey origin.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eESWE_hAOF4
So, in short, Trump’s Grandfather ran a hotel with excellent customer service; Justin’s Mommy was (allegedly) also offering the same service…
    (People in glass houses.)

    1. Heh, people in glass houses.

Maybe next time they meet, Trump can present turdo la doo with that famous picture of Shaggy Maggie airing out her attributes. Think our adoring press will think that’s cute and clever?

  19. I get a slightly different read from this.
My original thinking was that after Trump departed, the “handlers” (of the Canadian team, not necessarily Canadians) were informed of the results. Trudeau and team went too far too fast. They thought things were going very well but the handlers were quite angry. So Trudeau is told to go out and stay unequivocally on the original message. (He sells it well with the little “church lady” lip purse at the end.)
Now in any event… the negotiations went well, too well / beyond the handlers’ expectations who’s primary goal is to take down Trump; Canadian prosperity be damned.
Given this new (Rob Rousseau / CBC) shell game sequence (where Trudeau’s press conference is not even mentioned) we know the terms of expiration were amicably adjusted or at least made adjustable (Kudlow stated that they were down to changing words like “the” to “a”). But we hear something else very new. This “dangerous parallel universe” phrase and the need to “depersonalize” the situation and pull back Trudeau and set Freeland up front.
I think Trump went in pro Canada. (Total head fake on the globalists.) I think Trudeau negotiated pro Canada quite possibly getting everything he wanted. He either got carried away or was never read into the real agenda because they never thought Trump would agree to their preposterous terms. Trump only wanted a deal, any deal. Freeland and her gender issues were marginalized. Now she’s in the front seat and Trudeau, who may have done well for Canada, is now a fully re-fisted sock puppet.

Canada will now get a lesser deal. If Trump goes to Mexico or China before returning to the table in Canada, May God help you.
