    1. Yes. I had a very nice chat with the wife’s friend we hadn’t spoke with for a while. He asked me what I thought of Trump and I said “Excellent. He’s kicking arse”, to his surprise. To my surprise, what I said was completely contrary to what he knew. But then he only read the La Presse and watched CBC.

      For the half of humanity, who only receive news via the CIA/CNN/CBC, Trump is illegitimate and Las Vegas was a lone gunman with amazing shooting skills and super guns and no motive. I think when THAT media dam breaks, enlightenment will follow. Hopefully, because many of these people should be kept away from sharp objects.

          You see, I’m tested as an “Analytical”. I’m a computer programmer and computer project manager for a living. I’ve got a couple of degrees (the highest with Ph.D. in it, but it’s in Religion so not an academic qualification). My IQ tests out as qualified for Mensa (though I’ve never joined). I score exactly equal in verbal and non-verbal, so balanced skill set. My best friend growing up was a Mexican kid and I’ve spoken Spanish since about 7? years old, with 5 years of it instruction in school (so much for that “Racist” bait..) Technically I’m Hispanic though only due to US Law being a bit daft. Then he runs off to Bloomberg for his facts and analysis? Golly… just about as far left as you can get for a news source (do look up Michael Boomberg’s political bent).

          So I find myself amused at the use of stereotypes, innuendo, insult and all. Clearly it doesn’t fit me, a satisfied Trump voter. Nor my spouse, a similarly satisfied Trump Voter. (Also with degrees and credentials)

          BTW, I’m a Libertarian… so why “Unme” thinks Libertarians can’t see Trump as way more liberating that Hillary would be an interesting study in social blindness (on his/her/it’s part). Though I’m not surprised that someone found a subset of Democrats who were of reduced analytical skill (compared to non-Democrats one presumes…)

He only won due to the deep distrust of Hillary and the Democrats in general. The accurate bottom line is that Trump is totally unfit to be in politics, besides he is dumb as a post on so many issues.

            Bernier was my choice, but he could never get Quebec with his supply management policy. Is a shame, but he did not consider that Dairy and Eggs, unlike the Wheat Board, were set up to cause maximum disruption if cancelled. Because the quotas are tied to a license from the government rather than an actual asset like land, and are traded on the market, most current farmers have had to finance buying quota from the ones Trudeau the Evil gave the quota. Cancelling outright would wipe out those assets leaving only the liability and cause a financial crisis with calls for a taxpayer bailout. I suspect the only real answer is to first slowly dilute the quota by issuing splits to those who already have it until the quota become irrelevant. Currently in Ontario buying quota for 1kg costs $24000, October 2016 costs for Alberta were $39,500 which is estimate at $35,162 per cow. So a 100 cow herd in Alberta costs 3.5 million before you buy the farm or the cows. All of this is financed through the big banks, and government can not bail out the farmers for a million cows at that price, and without promising a bailout Bernier has no chance of carrying the rural potentially conservative parts of Quebec.

We will never know if anyone else could have beaten Trump, he ran a specific campaign against Hillary, he did not campaign against anyone else, except perhaps some comments about McMuffin. Polls show that Bernie would have beaten him, but Trump never ran against Bernie, and in fact built up Bernie as part of his Crooked Hillary Campaign.

            Polls also showed Trump being easily beaten by Jeb, Rubio, Cruz, … Every time he turned his attention towards any of those candidates they just melted back hoping he would go back to talking about Jeb. Only one he did not campaign against was Ben Carson, probably because it was more beneficial for the general to be nice to him.

  7. Regardless of your opinion of Trump, watching the reactions of institutions like the media and bureacracy is important. It’s like a stress test. You get to see how people and institutions react. Who becomes emotional and unhinged. Who jettisons their principals and morals. Who reveals themselves as rank hypocrites. Who remains stoic and objective. Who seeks to understand or to demonize. Who maintains their dignity and integrity.

    Once you observe this, you know who you can take seriously and who you can completely disregard in the future. You see which government institutions need to be reformed or eliminated. Stress separates the wheat from the chaff. It outs the unstable, the corrupt and the biased.

I am STILL ‘amused’ at recalling ALL the big network’s election results (as I was changing channels on election night) … I noticed that the earliest returns being reported were ALL FROM solid BLUE voting precincts in the most urbanized locations. Literally ALL the early returns concentrated in urban zones … of course ALL projecting HER as WINNER!! 99% WINNER!

      But I noticed their flaw, nay, their intent … to SPIN the election results … to reinforce the narrative that the VAST MAJORITY of voters wanted HER. Nice try, I whispered to my TV screen. And then, came the RED precincts … one-by-one … DOWN came the ‘BLUE firewall’ of SOLID BLUE electoral votes. Like watching a car crash in slow motion.   10. I’ve been watching the media do this stuff since Regan beat Carter. Have we all forgotten the 8 years of Ronald Raygun? What clinched it for me, and for most people, was Monica’s blue dress. The newfangled nothing/nobody blog Drudge Report had the whole thing to itself for FOUR DAYS while all the other media, all of it, refused to report the story. Bill Clinton was untouchable. America was Camelot again and no one would be allowed to spoil it.

    That’s the kind of thing that leaves a lasting impression.

    Then of course came 8 years of Bush Derangement Syndrome, then Camelot again as Obama came to save America from itself… by using the IRS as a weapon against his political opposition. Thanks to Drudge we know about that, the media didn’t report it. (Some fool troll will now scream “yes they did!!!!” Sure they did. After the Internet broke the story.)

    So, since the 1980s, everything I read in the paper I automatically run through my political filter. Bad news about conservatives requires more examination, good news about liberals does as well. Every story about guns or global warming is false until proven otherwise, those ones they’ve really jumped the shark.

    Where I agree with the author is that since November the media has lost their collective mind. They are not even pretending anymore, they are making stuff up Dan Rather style and doing it every single day. Every television show, every movie, even music, all has anti-Trump rhetoric built into it. Our resident troll UnMe is typical of the frothing mouthed screeching we see all day every day in the media. They’ve broken out their thesaurus, trying to find ever more strident words to communicate that Donald Trump is a bad person.

    All I’ve done is crank up my political filter. If a story is printed in all the major media, it is 95% likely to be a lie. If it is on Drudge, it is 50% likely to be a lie. If it is about Trump or his wife, it is 110% a lie. They will only tell the truth about the guy by accident.

    Of course in Canada, everything is always a lie. We don’t have a functional news service here at all. If I want to know something, I check Small Dead Animals.

            – Pulling funding for cities or states that do not comply. It’s called unconstitutional coercion and is highly restrictive. When part of Obamacare was tossed the precedent was set.

      3. Also I’m just beside myself that Canadians think the steel dispute is a good thing. Trump was always going to do this. It’s also completely illogical. Theres no defending the tariffs against Canada and nothing good can come from trade wars.

          I looked up Steel Imports: 8.7 million tons
          I looked up Steel Exports: 6.7 million tons

          Some of that is trading back and forth between Canada and US mills, 20% comes from China, or roughly double Canadian Production. Trump is right that Canada was being used as a back door into NAFTA, and that should have been dealt with, and there was ample warning. I would much rather see our own Steel Mills working to their potential. It is the nonsensical Tariffs Trudeau is imposing that can not be defended, and they even admitted that they were selected for partisan reasons. A Tariff on Florida Orange Juice? Really?

          1. There is no China backdoor argument. I’m in transportation I should know. Nobody buys steel without testing certifications. Also the US very much knows what kind of steel is produced in Canada and what is not. It is the production of steel in Canada that makes it exempt, not simply coming into ownership of Chinese steel.

            The tariffs on American products are targeted based on elections. The way they should be. Where the product comes from not what it is.

            Arguably any ingots of steel that are heated in whole or in part to the temperature where it becomes ductile becomes as “made in Canada” as the recyclables. 99.9% steel bars can be remelted in Canada as a recycling project. Therefore it can be an end-run around country of origin labeling, just as Trump is alleging. The country housing the original blast furnace that made the steel is the only way to prevent this partial-melting loophole, IMO. And that country is not Canada. I’m curious to know how much of the existing “recycling” done in Canada is actually this type of recasting.

          7. Uh we do produce lots of steel. We also have the 8th largest iron ore resources in the world. You should do some research.

          9. Note the reference to coking coal above. If you put iron ore into an arc furnace, you get hot rust. If you put iron ore into a blast furnace, you get iron or steel. The form of the iron has to be changed from +2 or +3 to 0. Workable metallic iron doesn’t naturally occur in nature on earth (except from meteorites, which start to rust when they arrive).

            Having reserves means that it can be mined economically. That doesn’t mean it will be smelted locally. If you do not have blast furnaces (and lots of them) then you’re not producing steel. Having iron ore that can be made into steel after shipping it to India or China is not the same as having a steel industry that produces steel. Japan doesn’t have the raw resources for a steel industry, but they buy the components and produce a lot of steel and steel products.

            Thank you for not arguing on the “this is the backdoor” statement. It seems we can make progress.

Even in the liberty movement there are those that argue that Trump is merely “playing 4-D chess,” and that his introduction of even more elites into his cabinet is somehow part of a grand scheme to “keep his enemies close.” The laughable nature of this delusion aside, the fact that some people are willing to stretch that far in their mental gymnastics to justify continued faith in Trump is a bit frightening.

    The idea that the “Deep State” is after Trump is an illusion. On the contrary, without the perception that Trump is under constant attack, Trump becomes superfluous as a leader and conservatives will begin to question his decisions. The establishment actually helps Trump’s image by continuing the Russian farce, just as the constant (but weak) attacks by establishment controlled media made Trump a 24 hour news phenomena and propelled him into a new level of celebrity status during the election.
