Whoever it was, I went to three different high schools scattered around Ontario many years ago, as a cigarette-smoking bilingual teen I hung around with an awful lot of very salty dudes, greasers, hippies, gangsters, stumbled around a lot of teenage crime from moronic vandalism to much more serious stuff. This is also different from some of the really stupid stuff I’ve encountered, like people going to a mountain hot spring at night and smashing their bottles in the spring when they leave or just throwing their bottles into a swimming hole. This is from a really alien cultural head space. I’ll keep an open mind, it could be one or two deranged individuals from any culture. The mention of forest fires is interesting though, this has been previously threatened by IS.

      there is so much haywire with the story. jeezuz murphy, I used to hang around I think it was Wasaga Beach in my early teens. or perhaps somewhere near Goderich area. there was an old train track cluttered with hundreds of pcs of broken glass big and small.
      the common sense rule was you dont tippytoe across said tracks in bare feet. there has ALWAYS been broken glass at the beach. fortunately all that sand and wind tends to wear it down and lose the sharp edges that way. dont know how long that takes but Ive seen countless pcs of glass like that.

      as far as the divers wearing kevlar glove, ummmm, kevlar is a fabric and can be cut easily with a sharp object. broken glass by its nature is, I find, one of the sharpest common objects in existence.

  9. Obviously the letter claiming to destroy the beaches and the sewing needles and glass are related. It can’t be a hoax if your beaches are covered with bad stuff. Whether these idiots are actual ISIS members is a different kettle of fish. But it likely doesn’t matter because even inspired attacks are part of the ISIS plan. I’m reminded of that scene in JAWS where the politician doesn’t want to shut down the beaches, shortly before the guy’s leg goes missing.

  10. Folks: I was born in Bracebridge. I went to school there. I know the setup of the beaches, I know who lives near them, and I know the local scuttlebutt.

    The chance that this is anything other than a really, REALLY dumb prank is near zero.

    Please just enjoy the spring, ‘k? (Except those in Newfoundland, where spring has been delayed due to global warming).
