  1. One must remember We Homo Sapiens, who have moved to being Homo Sapien Sapien {wise wise man} does bring us a bit further from our Primate Ancestry.
Laziness is just the natural regression back to the {Homo Sapien?} state with wise aspect being in flux with the current status of the specific Homo ??? focus of the moment. The members of our mutual ancestry which did not make the leap into a Sapiens situation were and remain content to be able to reach and devour what is immediately at hand.
The Homo Sapiens regression actually becomes a dis-evolutionary force. A return to not extending much effort for existance.
The separation in today’s industrialized culture is magnified when a Homo Sapiens Sapiens recognizes the Goal of Evolution, through Civilization, is to establish security of & for Human Rights of the Individual.

  2. I desperately wanted to believe that this story was a hoax, prompted perhaps by the similarity of the pomposity of the professor who assembled the article (to say that he “wrote” it does a disservice to the concept of “writing”) to that of “The Great Gildersleeve”, the notoriously self-important radio and television character. But no, our “Great Gildersleeve” is all too real, ensconced in a comfortable position at a Jesuit (but hardly Catholic) university. Living in the world of higher education, I can attest that articles like the one to which Mr Thompson refers are no longer curiosities that appear every now and again to be held up to ridicule by rational people but rather the norm, dominating the programs of most academic conferences in humanities and social sciences and filling the pages of once respectable academic journals. It is the university itself that has become the hoax, and the exceptions are few and hard to find.

  3. So laziness is an act of rebellion?
That’s nothing new to me. While I was teaching, I had lots of students who were openly engaging in it. They thought that earning their rewards by working for them was cruel and inhuman.
Of course, many of them were fresh out of high school. ‘Nuff said.

  4. The lazier you are … the more jobs there are for immigrants. No work = note immigrants. Geeze, it’s an America-haters wet dream.

  5. Or Deep Purple “Lazy” from Machine Head.
You’re lazy just stay in bed
You’re lazy just stay in bed
    You don’t want no money
    You don’t want no bread
If you’re drowning you don’t clutch no straw
If you’re drowning you don’t clutch no straw
You don’t want to live you don’t want to cry no more
Well my trying ain’t done no good
I said my trying ain’t done no good
You don’t make no effort no not like you should

  6. Let me refute the learned professor with the words of Robert Heinlein.
“Progress isn’t made by early risers. It’s made by lazy men trying to find easier ways to do something.”
