Wilfrid Laurier embarrassed itself internationally in 2017 for its horrendous treatment of Lindsay Shepherd. But its unfair treatment of employees doesn’t stop there. As Christie Blatchford has reported, a secretive group within the university suddenly gave raises to select employees based solely on their gender:
In the small finance group at the university’s business and economics school, for instance, the two women who were hired at the same time as male colleagues and paid the same, received a raise of about $6,000 each, leaving the 13 men far behind. That hike is much larger than the typical increase for merit pay.
The raises, announced out of the blue last May, were three per cent for all of Laurier’s female professors and 3.9 per cent for all female associate professors, and were retroactive to July of 2016. Depending on the stage of their careers, the hike may also mean a big boost to their pensionable earnings.
The university has estimated the raise for 119 associate professors and 33 full professors will add $680,000 to its base costs.
The “smell” test for such things is simple: If such raises were only given to men, would this not be front-page news for weeks? Given that a good portion of Wilfrid Laurier’s funding comes from taxpayers, how can anyone possibly justify this?

It shouldn’t surprise anyone that after 40 years of equal pay for equal work in a social-justice-obsessed habitat, “equity” now has morphed into reverse discrimination. That the whole process is incestuous, unionized, and by appearance, seemingly detached from administrative oversight is more reason to stay away from such institutions. Rational merit pay in such workplaces would be virtually impossible to administer.
Turns out some people protest so loudly against sexism or racism aren’t really against it, they just want to be the sex or race that gets to do it.
It’s not unfair, it’s unethical and, quite possibly, illegal.

Our societal institutions have been … EQUAL … for decades. Now it is all about STEALING (in the name of “equality”)

When I look at the corruption that is slowly unfolding at Wilfrid Laurier University, it reminds me of the early discoveries that were being made with regards to sexual abuse in the Catholic church. We were told to ”shut up” and ”stop spreading gossip.” Guess what people, it’s no longer gossip.

McMaster University in Hamilton pulled this same stunt last year.
