Elon Musk’s reliance on shock-and-awe tactics and unjustifiably lofty performance projections is creating serious problems for the so-called visionary as a growing number of experts have come forward to explain that many of his claims would defy the laws of physics.
The latest group to call bulls— is Aurora Energy Research, a European consultancy which estimated that Tesla’s electric haulage truck will require the same energy as up to 4,000 homes to recharge …

Yeah, but the true believers are still convinced. Unless and until the first one of those guys sees the light, it’s gonna keep going.
Musk is smart , but his reliance on the taxpayers teat leads him ever further into the weeds. Unicorns and pixie dust is much harder to prove when it’s your own and shareholders money. As bad as climate science to keep a well paying scam going while beating back the ever increasing number of naysayers that are pointing to logic and common sense in questioning the eventual outcome and even necessity of some of these projects driven by junk science to solve non existing problems in part.
The current wave of Tesla enthusiasm is “fueled” on the meme that says … ANY “new” technology is good. Anything that is anti (energy) establishment … is good. It doesn’t matter whether it works, or has any significant market penetration. It’s “new” so it MUST be embraced.
I would like to track the average Tesla automobile owner, and compile data on their actual Tesla usage. The actual cost per mile (absent all $ incentives) … and see if these eco-mobiles … really are.

I think the entire battery only powered vehicle is ridiculous. If they are really interested in energy savings, and useable vehicles, they should go with hybrid type vehicles. Imagine a diesel electric semi tractor with enough battery storage to accelerate the entire semi from 0-75 mph twice, and drive it at 75 mph for ten miles. The diesel-DC Generator is sized to run efficiently at a constant speed to power the Semi tractor and trailer running 75 mph into a 20 mph headwind and provide all the house loads without discharging the battery. A diesel running at constant speed and load can be optimized for efficiency and for pollution control. The VW Diesels cheated on emissions to provide zippy performance, which a constant speed and load do not require.
Maybe the generator would need to be bigger to work in the Sierras and Rockies, or the top speed in mountains will suffer? The battery storage can supplement the generator output when climbing hills and accelerating on the flats, until it gets discharged. You would still have the battery for low pollution city driving, and quiet mode driving in the city.
The diesel engine waste heat can be used to keep the driver and the battery at optimal temperature in the winter too. No need to waste battery electric power and operating range for heat.
No need for huge chargers, or long waits while the battery gets recharged. Fill it up with diesel fuel and charge the battery as you go. No new infrastructure required.
Easy easy to do.
Compare two used vehicles I saw recently, both 4 years old, a Model X for $65k, and to compare, a BMW 323 for $25k.
There’s no comparison. The Bimmer is a better built car, more luxurious, cheaper to buy. Sure you could spend around $200 a month on average for fuel, but it’s still cheaper to own, it’s not even close. Unless virtue Signalling is more important than sound financing. Oh yeah, that’s TSLAs business model
I might add that the average 4-year old BMW 323 is already a SULEV (super low emission vehicle) or at least some are. And the engine on that thing is barely broken-in, and will survive 2 more owners (although the legendary 50k mi. BMW electric water pumps won’t) OTOH … the Tesla battery array is getting near its functional (cycling) end of life. BMW engine … going strong. Tesla “engine” news the end of its service life.
Just to get a sense of the God-like awe that Tesla fanboys evoke, I caught a pseudo expert on CNBC this morning commenting on the TSLA Sem”eye” orders by corporations.
The dissonance of TSLA fanboys is something to behold. Facts don’t matter, just faith. In Musk. Despite vast evidence saying that these trucks are literally a fantasy, these cheerleaders show their blind allegiance in all things Musk.
And shame on CNBC for not pushing the hard questions, nor sticking to the point of how this vehicle just doesnt make sense according to the facts. Baffling, unless one recognizes that this is all shameless stock promotion and promoting the bubble
