Oh, Shiny Prime Minister!

“Canada lost big time”.

The news trickling out of the APEC Summit in Vietnam on November 10 was confusing. Was the Trans-Pacific Partnership moving ahead, did Prime Minister Justin Trudeau sabotage efforts to revive it, or was it being “re-revived” after all? Only now is the smoke lifting, as the extent of the damage to Canada’s trading reputation in Asia and the potential losses to western Canada’s export-based economy are revealed.
As the remaining Trans-Pacific Partnership 11 countries (TPP11) prepare to move on, without not just the US but, according to rumblings coming out of Asia, possibly also Canada, the costs of the Trudeau government’s shenanigans on the world stage are becoming clear. The first cost is losing out on the immediate economic gains from a rapid coming into effect of a revised Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement without the US. The second is the reputational damage caused by Trudeau’s decision to play coy on the deal, stand up his fellow heads of state, and torpedo Canada’s best and only chance to catch up in the Asian trade race. And all for what? To protect a few narrow domestic interests from a trade agreement — the TPP — that in fact offers better terms for the dairy and auto sectors than what’s currently on the table in NAFTA?

  1. Never in my life have I seen somebody so unprepared for the office that he holds as this twit. Why we are not calling for a national strike to remove these idiots from office before they continue with the complete destruction of this country I do not know.

  2. Unfortunately, Prince Pixie Dust’s cabinet is equally as pompous and inept as he is.
I’m sure that both Trump and Putin are having a good laugh at his expense. They probably see him as a minnow surrounded by sharks.

  3. Too much heated opinion and not enough facts for me. That’s okay if the writer has an established track record but a quick look at Carlo Dade’s Twitter feed reveals retweets of Climate silliness from Rachel Notley and the usual mindless anti-Trump sludge.

  4. I don’t think Canadians will notice after all…. 2017 and legal weed.
BTW I don’t care. I am thinking Peru or Chile.

  5. Li’l Potato got Scalloped!
Maybe he thinks he can just wait until the Americans come to their senses and swalla Bammy’s plan and punt Trump. But what if Bammy’s plan to punt Trump works as well as his plan to punt Assad worked?
    We pay the price!

  6. And when Trump sent him off to play with the girls, our press cooed that this was a wonderful thing.

  7. Canada likes to maintain the reputation that we are “nice and friendly” people. But is this a price we have to pay: The embarrassment of having this goofy Prime Minister, loose, like a yapping poodle?

  8. You guys don’t get it.
For key Canadian voters, in the world of Trump/Scott Adams, Justin Trudeau walks away a winner.
He wore palomino pants to China: he showed them what we are.

  9. Actually, I am okay with the complete destruction of Canada. If the only choice in every election, is how fast we drive off the cliff; I vote for all ahead flank. If Trudeau won’t do it, let’s find the guy who will borrow a trillion dollars a second instead of the pedestrian pace we are at now.
Tried voting for the “Saskatchewan” party. They talk a big game, but carbon tax is still coming. Tried voting PC, Reform, Conservative; government never got smaller. Tried not voting, made no difference. Now it is time to try Bob Rae or Notely or Wynne for Prime Minister. How can I vote, to give Canada what it thought it wanted, in the quickest possible time?

  10. The Canadian policy has roots.. In ~ 2010 Charlie Rose interviewed Paul Krugman (NYT) after China had NOT backed the Global Warming agenda….(Krugman had written a NYT article that was positive for China) When Rose asked him why China had not responded to the Gore Agenda & what was the way forward… Krugman Laughed & said WE have worker bees that will go into china and convert all the youth.. then the Government won’t have a choice..
8 years later “worker bee” Trudeau wants to educate China… Do you think China missed the Rose/Krugman chuckle how they would deal with the Chinese… Trudeau must have been busy..Dumb as a hammer

  11. All of the above.
This must be the first time in Canadian history that we have a government made up of juveniles, incompetents, at least one drunk, and oh yes, Ralphie the Laurentian Elite messenger to the hinterland.
Kevin, “…but carbon tax is still coming.” See today’s CTV Regina website.
    regina.ctvnews.ca/saskatchewan-s-climate-change-plan-includes-buying-carbon-offsets-no-carbon-tax-1.3706529

  12. The mission ended with certainty. Trudeau was certainly shown to be “just not ready” for the job of PM. Maybe Canadians should start a paper bag protest. Like Sylvester’s son on the old Bugs Bunny cartoons we should put a paper bag over our head to hide our shame in having Selfie Socks as PM.

  13. It sounds good written like that, but buying carbon “offsets” is still using tax revenue to pay into a BS carbon fund. They just aren’t charging taxpayers directly for the privilege.
That said, if it keeps the numbnuts in Ottawa from imposing a direct carbon tax on SK, it’s probably a better move.

  14. Oh Shiny Pony Sock Puppet go back to drama school and learn how to act like a MAN!! PM Potato sounds empty his voice quivering as he talks!!! Don’t preach to the Chinese!!

  15. I am an outsider on this and only pick up snippets of information here and there but it seems that one of the major sticking points in this very large trade agreement is the inclusion of progressive agenda chapers on environment, labor rights, and gender stuff.
Here is an example of what I’m referring to:
“International Trade Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne has said part of Canada’s negotiating strategy, aside from preserving market access, is to press for the inclusion of chapters on the environment, labour rights and gender equality.”
I believe that for most of the countries involved in the TPP 11 (New Zealand and Australia excepted), this is a deal killer….
And in spite of the negative comments above, this, if true, will excuse the Prime Minister’s failure(?) by many(?) Canadians.
    I could be wrong too.

  16. Do you think that the airhead is embarrassed?
    Not a chance.
Thinking here that he must have an assembly of people that every day listen to his nonsense and chant in agreement. On whatever it is, no reason. The chanting assembly reinforce the nonsense and everybody in the circle is happy. The handlers, the airhead, the chanting crowd and the peasant class.
Who the hell he think he is, telling one billion Chinese with five thousand years of history how things should be done. It does look as though the Chinese bosses arranged it so it cuts him down to the miniature that he is.
There was a picture of the drama queen when he arrived, walking with the Chinese boss in front of some sort of honor guard, the drama queen having hands full with some stuff.
    An act, you may say.
When shaking hand with the Chinese boss, holding his elbow with the other hand. Yeah, isn’t he just one of the folks or something.
    An act, you may say.
They complain, whoever they are, about Trump ignoring the protocol, heh, he gave notice that he operates by different rules, which is generally no rules save for basic respect and decency, basic being the operative word.
You may also note that in majority of the photo ops, the airhead is looking into the shiny future instead paying attention to the honcho the he is dealing with.
    An act, you may say.
Being on an official visit to China is not about anything.
It is about an act, you may say.

  17. The Canada West Foundation isn’t the cbc.
    I’m ok with Dade.
The libranos have no skin in the game when it comes to western Canada. There is no downside. They scrap a trade deal that benefits the west? So what.
This is what to expect from bongo. He can win without the west.

  18. Diversity is our strength – B.S. – our strength is they have not yet been able to totally muzzle us from disagreeing on public forums and we still have our firearms. However , they are working on both of those !

  19. LOL! My sentiments, exactly. Why waste time casting around for “someone to save us”, when the optimum should be to find someone to put a stake through the heart of this country & get it over with quickly. Then rebuild.
On another thread, yesterday I was chastised by CGH for posting:”I give the place 2 more years & then it collapses in on itself. The next elections in Alberta, Ontario & at the Fed level will dictate whether the Yanks have to step in to manage the place, sooner than they planned.”
I said it tongue in cheek & not to disparage CGH on his points, which were quite pertinent to this government’s Oh! for 3 on trade deals lately, with the 3rd strike coming with a fast ball on NAFTA.
These dipsticks have blown any economic future on the world stage on rainbow street crossings, bike lanes, pronoun fancies, labor standards, continued managed trade/crony capitalism & Klimate Change. They have blown their wad to our detriment & we will pay the price.
I still stand by my statement, posted above. Review the Regina Strike 1919, the Nova Scotia coal miners strike 1920 & the Winnipeg Riots for hints as to where we are really going. I don’t think any iteration of “conservative government” will save anyone, now. The deck is stacked against them & they are not really conservative enough.

  20. That’s half of it. The other two serious irritants are stumpage fees with the US, and dairy, egg and poultry quotas from just about everyone. The US is dead wrong about stumpage fees (the infamous softwood lumber dispute that’s been going on for three decades), but everyone else is right about the obnoxiousness of Canada’s agriculture supply management system.

  21. Did you catch the frontrow of our esteemed negotisting team?
The Pony, the drunk, Climate Barbie, Bardish Jagger (for gawd knows what reason), a partisan sikh.
You get the idea, possibly the worst combination, without Hedy Fry present.

  22. He sidled up to the Buffet and asked for a nothing burger with social justice dressing. Small wonder the Chinese thought he was nuts.

  23. Diefenbaker, remember him? He went to China with his trade minister and sold them wheat.
He told them we were a reliable supplier. They said they would buy – deal.
No side bars filled with gender language, pronouns and maternity leave.

  24. Makes me think of Kate’s we-need-a-famine meme. Hunger does have a way of sharpening the senses and, with the part time drama teacher running the show, may be coming sooner rather than later.

  25. “That said, if it keeps the numbnuts in Ottawa from imposing a direct carbon tax on SK, it’s probably a better move.”
Agreed. Toss the morons in Ottawa a bone just to give the impression that we are on board with their idiotic carbon agenda. It’s probably the only way, short of capitulation, to get them off our backs. It also deprives the media the opportunity to portray Premier Wall as being divisive and eager to pick a fight with the much stupider Trudeau.

  26. This buffoon doesn’t need to be embarrassed, he has a country half full of people who
are extremely embarrassed to have him sitting in any kind of government.

  27. Did his royal hairness really think he could negotiate with the Chicoms with nothing more than his boyish beta male charms? What more could one expect from someone whose foreign policy consists of nothing more than walking softly and carrying a big selfie stick? It’s getting that I can’t stand the sight of this enemic “leader” of ours.

  28. Wonder if the delegation all get a t-shirt while there that has some mandarin written phrase on it that translates into something along the lines of “I’m with stupid” and Juthtin gets one that says “they are with me ”
That would be an excellent photo op.

  29. Unifor campaigned hard for the Mafia (Liberals) during the last election and now they are getting paid back for that help. Gerry Diaz is calling the shots on trade, Socks is just the actor Unifor tells what to do and when to do it.

  30. Keep reminding liberal voters that they voted for him because of fake news from the Canadian media.
That gives them someone else to blame and is their ‘out’.
They are always victims of something, might as well harness that and help them think they are victims of the media’s fake news.
    It’s not their fault!

  31. who needs trade agreements when Wynne and Trudope are shutting down all of our manufacturing industry with green energy and carbon taxes, and they are also blocking our largest exports of resources by stopping pipeline construction…
With nothing to export soon a trade deal is a waste of time

  32. (Dirty) Harry Callahan: A man’s GOT to know his limitations.
    For Junior he is oblivious.
There is the distinct possibility that the geniuses on Junior’s negotiating team actually got around to reading the details of the TPP , in particular Chapter 17 which would put government funding the likes of Bombardier in jeopardy and even possibly funding of the CBC.

  33. Commentators are puzzled by Jr’s trade policy, even pointing out his hapless trade Minister doesn’t know what it involves. It is a exaggeration to call his antics a “policy”, in the sense it is a disciplined thought out position. To be sure he is against TPP, a winning deal for Canada because it was negotiated by Stephen Harper’s team and opposed by the Chinese. Cozying up to them fulfills a family tradition of favouring the autocratic regime and alines with Quebec Liberal leanings, think J Chretien and P Desmarais.
FTA and NAFTA were also Conservative negotiated deals and hence not worthy of much admiration. Ending NAFTA and cementing a deal with China would resonate with the anti-US faction, indeed his father tried unsuccessfully to steer trade away from US and closer to Europe. Jr desperately would like to be considered an adult with a trade agreement of his own. It would matter not if it was in Canada’s favour or not.

  34. Mr. Trudeau will come back and tells us, they didn’t accept a Chinese deal because they wouldn’t agree to “gender equality, labour relations and no child labour”
We know this, before he took off, so does he think we are naive or just stupid?

  35. The libranos completely misread this. Like the fools they are they send the boss to China for the photo op. It’s a done deal when the boss shows up to get his picture taken at the signing – right. All the heavy lifted has been done by the Minister and his minions.
Whoops. Guess we don’t have a deal. WTF happened Barbie?
Can’t wait to hear the excuses from the boy king.

  36. Yeah, somebody should mention that directly to the drama queen.
One could always hope contrary to the set of facts that there. Is actually no such thing as hope other than the sentiment.

  37. SADLY David, you are bang on the money. We have a Social Justice Warrior Prime Minister. An Arrogant French Fk who has been quoted on record as saying that Quebec is the Natural breeding/training ground for Canadian Prime Ministers….and that Quebecers are the Natural Leaders of Canada.
A Drama teacher (failed), who has recited the shahada and kisses Islamic (_i_) at very opportunity, yet says he’s a feminist while at the same time removing the commentary from a “Welcome To Canada Guide” that stated FGM was a barbaric act and one that would not be tolerated…apparently he, the “feminist” in appeasing his Islamic buddies, will in fact tolerate it.
In my entire life..and I include the time his (_i_)hole father ran Canada, I have never HATED a person as much as I do this Sack of runny human excrement.
And don’t think for one minute he is an idiot…this POS knows exactly what he is doing, being an adoring acolyte of George Soros and jis attempted creation of the UN’s New World Order. An Agenda he is following to a TEE via Energy Poverty and the importation of stone age savages who do not work, but revel in stealing, raping, murder and Terrorizing Westerners…
We can joke about him all we like, but underneath it all this guy is as Dangerous if not more so than Obama was…and like him, is working at break neck speed to destroy this country.
I hope someone takes the MoFo out…
    rant over…

  38. Sean…I am firmly convinced that we are dealing with de-facto Marxists in a number of our Governments.
“..Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of U.N.’s Framework Convention on Climate Change, admitted that the goal of environmental activists is not to save the world from ecological calamity but to destroy capitalism…”
So I see this as Stage 1: Destroy Western Economies by forcing Carbon Taxation and the imposition of Wind/Solar BS to artificially elevate Energy Costs beyond most peoples ability to pay.
Stage 2; The unbridled invasion of Western Civillization by stone age savages the Will abolutely NOT work, but love to suck up Billions in Welfare while stealing, raping and terrorizing Westerners.
Marxism at work….and to Destroy Capitalism is its Mission – as it always was. And that bastard in Ottawa is FULLY on Board and fully engaged in doing his part…to me, that much is blatantly obvious.

  39. I like the way you think Stan ” help them think they are victims of the media’s fake news. It’s not their fault! “.

  40. Your every comment is bang on. PM Selfie Socks has met with Soros a couple of times. Once in Davos and do not recall the other occasion.
Sean @ 4:18, part of the plan.

  41. Guys, you are being blinded by your hatred of Trudeau. If he pulls out of the TPP it will be the one good thing to come out of his administration.
NAFTA screwed the US manufacturing sector. Why would a man keep a factory in Ohio when he can pay Mexicans $3 per hour and no workmen’s compensation insurance? Our factories were shipped overseas, towns died, the rust belt cratered … you sure that’s what you want for Canada? What good are cheap Chinese goods when you don’t have a job?
Because that’s what you’ll get from the TPP in spades. Have a look at “Why Free Trade Isn’t” for the story your media won’t tell you.
My best to all my northern neighbors.
    w.

  42. I am opposed t these so-called “free-trade” deal because they aren’t. They are regulated trade deals created to the advantage of facored companies which help dominate a market and keep competition out.
And anything with the Chinese is disasterous at present. They fix their currency, use virtual slave labour and, when they decide to buy up some Canadian raw resource, they’ll ship in their own coolies under the disguise of “free-movement of labour”. They will not employ expensive locals.
Of course, they will pay off Jean Chretian and a few other Yuan-drooling Liberals.

  43. VOTE FOR THE GREEN PARTY, they will flush everything in one term in office and we can start over. When we do start over any one who spouts one socialist policy has to be shipped to the arctic, naked and alone.

  44. I watched a bit of the dog-and-pony show on CCTV4 with my wife last night during a news program. President Xi appeared to be giving Trudeau quite the lecture. Based on what my wife translated for me, the gist was “China is China, and you’re not. And we’re only interested in things that help us.” Canada will not come out ahead in trade negotiations with China, and Xi basically told him that to his face. The PM, however, just sat there and nodded with his smarmy, poop-eating grin, just like a rich kid in prep school getting read the riot act, but knowing daddy will punish the head teacher for his temerity. And then, apparently, totally agreed with Xi (again, based on translation from Mandarin). I seriously can’t tell at this point if he’s truly evil, or just completely clueless.
I agree with Willis that ending the TPP is a good thing. Canada needs to stop surrendering its sovereignty to everyone in the world…except the Canadian people.
