  1. Behold the POWER of a capitalist Monopoly. All fall prostrate at its feet.
And no … I did NOT say that like it was a good thing.

  2. I had opportunity to do some sub contract work in the Amazon warehouse in New Westminster. It was a horrible experience that degraded every human that worked there. Beside the exit metal detector was a flat screen TV with a rolling list of employee obituaries. No the obituaried employees were not dead just fired for some infraction or other. I had a young fellow from Quebec working with me. He bought a chocolate bar from the Amazon snack bar self serve checkout. He ran his debit card then raced outside to have a smoke with his buddies and was fired when he came back in. It seems his debit card malfunctioned and ZERO theft policy had kicked in. He didn’t even have a chance to pay for the chocolate bar once he found out his debit card didn’t work.

  3. soooooo at what point will amazon be ‘too big to fail’ requiring (insert multibillion dollar figure) bailout?
    banks do it.
    auto makers do it.
    aircraft mfgers do it.
    etc etc
    zhobs zhobs zhobs !!!!
(ignoring the FACT very easily provable for GENERATIONS that small businesses are the muscle and barometer of an economy. alas they lack the cash reserves to make huge campaign contributions so that legislation and regulations go their way . . . .)

  4. Amazon. In the race to kill small retail business, running neck and neck with Liberals.

  5. Our neighbour ran a dessert bakery. She got orders from around the world for local delivery.
After 10 yrs, she sold to another entrepreneur.
I’ve bought a few things from eBay or amazon. Why not support local biz?

  6. Well we in B.C. sure don’t have to worry about them expanding to Vancouver.
Only if the CEO and Board at Amazon are financially retarded would they consider a $5 billion (U.S.) investment in this socialist paradise.

  7. One look at the labour environment should keep them out of BC despite that they’re likely being courted as a “clean, New Economy” business from the Watermelon Alliance in Victoria. Anything but Mining, Forestry, Aquaculture, Carbon-based Energy and Hydro (almost all our natural competitively advantageous industries) are welcome. And still, the unionized drones from the private sector that have already or will lose their jobs line up to support them.

  8. Considering the $5 billion “investment” shouldn’t amazon be required to produce an in-depth environmental impact assessment taking into account both downstream and upstream impacts as well as GHG implications and waste disposal. I mean if that was required for pipelines shouldn’t it be also for distributors of cheap chinese crap?

  9. Since every Province in the country and also every major city are one or two paychecks away from going broke if they were an actual taxpaying hard working family expect to see some real attractive presentations. Make no mistake Amazon will be holding all the aces and they will win. Everyone else is running for second place in this race.

  10. Edmonton and Calgary are among the hundreds? courting Amazon. Why would a high income province want to dilute the average income of their labor force with low income workers? Sucking high priced government services and paying peasant taxes. Sounds like a good fit for Winnipeg. Wanting people simply for the sake of having more people is stupid.
