Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Entertainers should stick to entertaining and making money, not lecturing the fans on their obnoxiousness.
Shut up and chase the dang ball, Richard Sherman!
Since when does getting paid $5 million a year, become “Oppressed”?
Sooooo much delicious shadenfreude I don’t know where to begin.
Bathing and drinking Leftists tears myself.
The National Felon’s League has nobody to blame but itself. ESPN’s numbers are tanking and bringing Disney’s stock price down with it.
That’s what happens when you go full LibTard and SJW. Especially when you make Trump and 63% of America voters your enemy.
Never do that.
Bring on the Negroe Ball League!
ha ha ha !!!!
I have such a level of disinterest in pro sports, I had to read the comments to ‘get’ the posting.
ha ha ha !!!!
couch potatoes unite !!!! where’s hb today??? oh. outdoors actually *engaging* in physical activity !!!
This is going to spark a lot of racist comments here but I’m going to say it anyway. Where would the thousands of ‘black’ players get salaries anywhere approaching what they make in professional sports (NFL, NBA, MLB) if it wasn’t for the ‘white’ middle class taxpayer buying tickets and watching sports. How many food vouchers does it take to get a ticket into a sports venue? The racists in this episode are the no-brainers that can’t think for themselves and have been deluded by the BLMs and SJWs into thinking that they can game the system more effectively by claiming that they are being oppressed. Oppression ended when Jackie Robinson stepped up to the plate, since then we have seen hundreds of thousands of instances of equality. Now after eight years of Obama we see racial divisions that are about to engulf the country, and these so-called professional athletes are now helping to fan the flames. We are about to see the demise of Western culture just as the Roman Empire died. When the bread and circuses fail to entertain the mob, the mob turns on itself.
You mean my self-righteous, disrespectful of the flag, prima-donna, temper tantrum is being shunned by those who pay my obscenely stratospheric salary? What a bunch of racists.
Those 25,000 tops fans were really 97% (66,445) out of 68,500 capacity. So says 49ers management. It must be one of those optical illusions when your eyes go out of focus. Obviously the NFL is conspiring to lie about attendance. At what point do the owners start worrying and quit being assholes? They can only crap on the fans so long. Three weeks in and I watched part of one game. I often watch 4 in a weekend.
Many NFL players got into the league by means of collegiate sports, often financed by athletic scholarships. I’ve heard stories about how student athletes are treated like royalty because people are willing to pay money to see them play.
Part of that royal treatment includes making sure they pass all their courses, even if it means compromising academic standards. One’s future sports career can’t be jeopardized by flunking out, now can it? Similarly, any misconduct, legal or otherwise, is often hushed up and glossed over. It wouldn’t look good to have a potential star athlete acquiring a criminal record, would it?
One result of being handled so favourably, and being correspondingly flattered and reminded of how “great” they are, is that they actually believe that blarney and think that they can do no wrong. They got away with their antics while they were students, so why shouldn’t they continue doing so?
It might be interesting to see just how many of those “oppressed” players actually were products of the collegiate sport system and how they were treated.
Same boat scar. I just don’t care anymore about the Vikes or the Hawks, let alone any of the other ugly jersey teams.
I’m done! After 40 years of it, and the last 10 fir sure tailing off in watching it, its over. I just don’t care about precious overpaid, inner city blacks that won the lottery, but still pss and moan over how tough life is! And a league that seems ineffectual to do anything about it. But hey, don’t wear mismatching jerseys or gear, the NFL will fine players for that disrespect!
Why is it that nearly all the “resisters” in the political realm are entitled 1%ers?
In other words, spoiled brats with too much time on their hands?
Karl Marx, Vladimir Lenin, and Usama bin Laden all came from well-to-do families (relative to their times).
Second, we don’t see this kind of behaviour from, say, farmers or small business people or people who work 12-hour days.
Third, why don’t those athletes who kneel at the US National Anthem put their money where their mouth is like Donald Trump is doing and give away their salary to charity?
That sound you’re hearing is a billion dollar money machine being flushed down the toilet.
That other sound you’re hearing is Rush Limbaugh laughing his a$$ off because they wouldn’t let him buy the St. Louis Rams.

One Pittsburgh Steeler refuses to join in his team’s anthem protest:
http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2017/09/former-army-ranger-steelers-player-stand-national-anthem-entire-team-hid-locker-room-video/
They’re going to have to start doing what baseball and hockey stadiums do and paint the seats different colours so it looks like there are people sitting in them when the camera pans the crowd.
The decline has been inevitable once sport became form of show-business.
This is nothing more than “black guilt” (and “white guilt” from the owners). Every one of these players, and especially the League Commissioner and owners are “1%-ers” … most are EXTREME 1%-ers. Because of their athletic ability, and the Capitalist system that so richly rewards their talent, these players are SET for life. They have NO economic need whatsoever. If they have half a brain (which is now, doubtful due to CTE) they will not have to work another day in their lives when they retire from football at age 30.
These players are simply feeling “guilty” for winning the Capitalist lottery because they were born with a unique physical talent. While a substantial percentage of blacks remain in poverty in America … for a host of malignant cultural failings … these NFL players have stables of supercars, parked in their mansions in the “whitest of neighborhoods”, stocked with Cuban cigars and Crystal, with their “posse” hanging out by the pool. Their “protest” is the FAKEest of FAKE. Oh … and all their personal family “Foundations” are as FAKE as HERs … nothing more than a tax loophole designed for the ULTRA wealthy. Handing out football uniforms once a year to disadvantaged “urban” youth is a rather superficial effort to “help” your “people”.
As BA mentioned above … these players have been catered-to, fawned-over, and pampered their entire lives (because of their earning $$$ capacity for the colleges, and the NFL owners). So when I hear of THEIR stories of childhood “trauma” for being mistreated as a “black” person … I just shake my head. Hey “victims”!!! I have also been pulled over by the cops for a broken taillight … and I am “white”. But I was driving a real “beater” in a very exclusive neighborhood … so yes … I was “profiled”. Meh. Just the police doing their job.
Professional sports were always a form of show business, going back to ancient times. Gladiators slaughtered each other in the Roman Coliseum for the entertainment of the masses. The only athletic prowess that was being displayed was the ability to stay alive.
Keep in mind this stadium is only a couple of years old. I believe it’s still the newest stadium in the league as well. So a prime-time game against a division rival in a brand new venue got… 35,000. Also keep in mind this is the league that said that decals for the Cowboys after the shooting of the cops was too much and not what they wanted to be but Colin K and Bennett and Black Nazi salutes are.
If you’re still watching the NFL, you’re no better than someone sipping Starbucks walking in a Pride parade wearing clothes bought at Target.
Full disclosure: I was a lifelong Niners fan until they were the first team to peacock after Obergefell putting the rainbow behind the red/gold SF. NFL’s been dead to me since then.
And let’s not forget that the “injustice” and “racism” being “protested” here … is ALL aimed at POLICE actions against CRIMINALS perpetrating CRIMINAL activity. These wonderful athlete-cum-activists are DEFENDING criminals who committed CRIMES and assaults. Perps who all had lonnnng criminal records. And never a word is spoken about the injustice of spawning children who are born into poverty. Young boys who grow up without fathers. A culture that insists on speaking their “native tongue” of Ebonics and rail against the “white man’s language” and education.
There is only ONE highly successful, wealthy, educated, black man who has EVER publicly addressed the failings of the black community … his name is Bill Cosby. And we know what happens when you speak-out against the dominant gangstah-rap culture … you get Gloria Allred, wicked witch of the house Clintonian
Martin Luther King Jr. was NOT fighting for CRIMINAL rights … it was for basic HUMAN RIGHTS which WERE systemically denied in (mostly) Southern society. He fought for a LEGITIMATE cause … not the imaginary slight of being pulled over by a legitimately suspicious police officer. And then, for threatening the police officers lives. NOT the same thing … this is a FAKE protest … just like the FAKE ANTIFA protests. An AstroTurf movement funded and coordinated by The Worldwide Socialists, Trade UNIONS, and Soros Foundation. Any comparison to the 1960’s Civil Rights movement is bogus and laughable. Movements such as protests against REAL mistreatment of blacks and Vietnam soldiers will eventually succeed. Because they are REAL. This FAKE protesting is going nowhere and doing nothing.
A good indication of the mentality of the sports/showbiz one percenters is a recent “tweeeeet” by some sh!thead called “Jemele” who crowed that “the best player in the NBA has refused to meet with the President”.
As entertainers,I am finding all you a$$holes less entertaining all the time. It’s about time the world awakened to the fact that we exalt people who do nothing more useful than make us feel good for a couple of hours, like a prozac pill you watch instead of swallow.
Maybe those who need their feel-good fix would be better off with the drug.
Yes Sean … and I WAS a San Francisco GIANTS fan … until … they routinely became the GIGANTES pandering to the Reconquista movement. I grew up worshiping Willy Mays … and will forever remember SEEING Bobby Bonds GRAND SLAM at his very first at-bat for the GIANTS. Willy McCovey et. al. But now there are “culture days” for every “tribal identity group” in the SF Bay Area; Mexicans, Gays, women, Irish and Italian (to placate the “whites”) … it is actually quite sickening to see GIGANTES management celebrating what DIVIDES their fans rather than what UNITES them … a frickken BASEBALL game. WTH!!??
Predictably the mindless drones of the corrupt corporate Media are in full “Trump bad” mode. Yeah, like the childish antics of these racist millionaire athletes is all the fault of the President. The Media may need a Trudope sock story to make them “feel” better about being lying sacks of excrement. “Get that son of a bitch off of the field”… yep.
Lesson learned, vote with your money.
Hahah ha ha ha … in a related story … did you KNOW that the WNBA playoffs are going on right now ? Yeah, me neither … till I saw it on my onscreen guide. Ha ha ha ha .. if you want to see empty stadia …
We’re bombarded with politics 24/7 and the reason we watch pro sports like the NFL is as a form of escapism — entertainment that’s free from the political BS. Those who watch the NFL tend to lean right I expect since the lefties prefer the figure skating. Well guess what? Using your stage to give the big finger to the better part of your fan base will be bad for business. You’ve got probably one more season to figure that out before you implode. Be honest with yourselves; most of you aren’t Jeopardy material.
I’ll embrace the word “and” again. Players should be allowed to protest in the workplace and their employers should be allowed to agree/disagree/ignore/suspend them and fans should feel free to walk away from another entertainment venue becoming a political protest and taxpayers should be able to vote down building stadiums for politicized sports.
Here’s a thought experiment to check for intellectual consistency, internal contradictions, double standards, and hypocrisy: how would you react to players doing an opposing political position. Chanting “build the wall ” or waving “don’t tread on me” flags during the national anthem? I’m 100% positive that progressives would not hesitate to insist that heads must roll.
Trump’s remarks are troubling because as president he represents the government. It would be like Trudeau saying that canada would be better off if “there were more Quebecers than Albertans in charge.” or HRC talking about millions of fellow citizens as “deplorables”. Political leaders should be careful. I’d be happy if politics stopped infecting every aspect of life including what/where say, think, eat, live, shop, drive, education, entertainment, sports, vacation, leisure activities…enough already.
The First Amendment only applies to government. I have been a business owner and would not tolerate any employee selling politics or religion. Everybody knows my politics but I leave it alone with clients unless they are personal friends who agree with me.
I personally agree that work is neither the time nor the place for a political protest. I’d never do it and I think people who do this tend to have a terrible case of lookatme-itis. OTOH, I strongly support the ideas and ideals that are the foundation of the 1st Ammendment. I support people’s right to free speech (and the right of others to hear what they have to say) that goes further than just the restriction outlawing government interference. I’m what progressives would hatefully refer to as a free speech absolutist. The company I worked for tolerated a wide range of political activities and my coworkers spanned the political spectrum from leftist NDP to the old western separatist sympathizing conservative Reform Party. There was no monitoring or disciplining of employees because of what they did in their personal time, unless it was illegal.
Chuckle over this one!
“NFL Jaguars and Ravens Take Knee for Star Spangled Banner, Stand up for ‘God Save The Queen’…”
https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2017/09/24/nfl-jaguars-and-ravens-take-knee-for-star-spangled-banner-stand-up-for-god-save-the-queen/
Ha! Shows the player ignorance. I would dare say the British Empire enslaved and killed more brown skinned people than America ever dreamed of. But then I remembered the players all attended American colleges recently … so they didn’t LEARN anything except America-baaaaaad mmmmkay.
Completely agree. But I would additionally suggest that “protest” isn’t what the kneelers “community” needs. I would have (and do have) far more respect for those young players who mentor a fatherless boy, or start an after school education enrichment program for “urban” kids. You know … something PRODUCTIVE … not uselessly SYMBOLIC. 1st Amendment ? Absolutely! but mine too … spent mocking their feeble, divisive distraction.
Let’s try not fall down the fake news hole here.
The game was early Thursday night starting during rush hour. The newish stadium is in Santa Clara a long drive from San fran at the best of times. The stadium location and archecture are controversial and attendance was weak before Kaepernick.
In sum the conclusions being drawn are very much overdone.
According to someone on TV 3/4 of the players in the NFL are black and 3/4 of the fans are white. There are claims that up to 200 million Americans watch the NFL. The NFL grossed $13.3 billion in 2016 or roughly $67.00 per fan. Also in 2016 there were 1,696 players in the NFL for 118,000 fans per player.
So what is easier? Hiring one player or recruiting 118,000 fans? If I was a player or owner in the NFL I would be paying attention to the 3/4 of the fans who are white. And I would ask myself how many black red-necks are out there.
If the owners tolerate such behavior then they own it, they are then “selling” whatever self expression, protest, insults, etc the players do on his dime. Not being a fan I couldn’t give a shit but I sure as hell wouldn’t pay a dime for their spoiled brat little antics.
The answer is easy and straightforward Steve from Rockwood. The 150-million white American NFL viewers should stop exploiting the 1,272 black NFL players immediately. That means stop watching NFL games on television. Stop attending NFL games in person. Stop purchasing NFL merchandise. That will truly set the 1,272 black NFL players free. In fact, it can be stopped even before it reaches the NFL. Stop recruiting black football players to US colleges with the exploitative promise of a free education. Problem solved. /sarc
It’s not just NFL.
The media, all of it, has just had their worst summer in decades.
Michelle Malkin goes through the ratings slaughterhouse.

First of all, I would like to borrow your calculator. Second, it would be a simple case of fans switching to college football for a year. Leave the NFL for awhile, with its high paid athletes, and watch college football (which is an awesome product, black players celebrated).
The college players will think twice about kneeing because they will graduate to a league that has been abandoned (even if for a year). The owners will get it. The NFL players? Will suffer. There is no racism in supporting college football.

“steve e says… stop exploiting the 1,272 black NFL players immediately.”
what would happen… if you suddenly dumped 1200 unemployed, extremely angry,
immensely strong and often roided up ex-football players into the urban landscape?
nothing good, i’m guessing.

But seriously, entertainment, sports or otherwise, is in for a world of hurt. Economics and politics, after years of egregious public exploitation, are aligning to take the industry down.
My wife and I went to the movies to see Dunkirk. I had a fifty dollar gift certificate which I thought would be good for at least two movies. After buying our tickets, popcorn and a drink, I had to pony up an extra $10. 60-bucks…for a movie…the first movie I’ve gone to see in over a year. I mean who wants to see another comic book movie or a sequel version 3 or 4 not to mention the bull$hit political statements most movies are trying to make at those prices.
My youngest son’s band is marching in the Rose Parade in January 2018. My oldest son is traveling with my 86 year old father-in-law as part of the supporter tour. They would like to go to the Rose Bowl Football game. The cheapest seats are over $200 each and are located two rows from the outside rim of the bowl. My father-in-law suffers from macular degeneration and cataracts and can’t possible see the game from such a vantage point. To get close enough to see the game would cost over $1,000 per seat. We’re not poor and neither is my father-in-law, but who’s going to spend that kind of money?
The entertainment industry–Hollywood, NFL, College, NHL, MLB, NBA, etc.–are discovering the elasticity of demand. Firstly, they’re driving down the value of their product with their political bull$hit by insulting the majority of their customers. Secondly, they’re pricing their product beyond the seating capacity they’ve built up in the last 10-years.
Something is starting to give and it’s coincidental to the looney-lefty politics.
The Seattle Shit-Hawks are reaping their PC Ownership… Pete Carroll is nothing but a community organizer….They don’t deserve to win with all their PC conditioned players… The plantation under Paul Allen (Microsoft) will keep the undesirable black players out of Seattle… To think Shit Hawk players will give their best is a Joke.. Cash the check and laugh all the way home….Pete Carroll should have been fired after the 2014 Super Bowl… Paul Allen has too much money!
Seattle is a basket case, who is next…
“nothing good, i’m guessing.”
I think you could count on that NEO.

“steve e asks… We’re not poor and neither is my father-in-law,
but who’s going to spend that kind of money?”
hillary clinton, bernie sanders, justin trudeau, bill morneau…

Supply and demand.
You’re against it?
No one understands why kapernick et al are protesting; big fat salaries? The murder rate in Chicago? This is going to end badly for the NFL, a sport I used to enjoy, But what with dull games, ESPN and the left politicizing and morons screwing the only chance they have for making millions …
The NFL is going to make its first loss ever this year and they’ll be scratching their head about why.
Perhaps people like to enjoy their escapist sports rather than have politics thrust down their throats.
I’ve never been much of a pro sports fan except for the NHL and auto racing. I gave up on the NHL last strike and auto racing about the same time NASCAR wanted me to believe in a V-8 powered, RWD, Toyota Camry. I still enjoy proudly supporting Canadian race drivers in any series, though.
I loved playing league football as a youth but always found the game too slow to watch enjoyably. That said, the friends I have known who love football, REALLY LOOOOVE FOOTBALL!!!! I understand that boycotting the NFL would be near a hardship for some, but hope they will do the right thing and send the message back that political demonstrations during sporting events are UNWANTED by the majority of paying CUSTOMERS.
You are a practicing NFL fan, lance, so I am curious as to whether or not you see this boycott as a worthwhile or necessary sacrifice.
Supply and demand.
You’re against it?
Not at all. I’m suggesting that entertainment whether it be sports, movies, theater, or music may be reaching it’s equilibrium point. Politics may push it there more quickly.
I have one question. If the NFL owners of some of the teams stand with their players that are kneeling due to some perceived injustice then why is the person who started all this kneeling garbage not at least holding a clipboard for one these said teams? Do these players not see that the owners are taking them for idiots?
Sure read like you were complaining about the price of tickets.
Then one of two things is occurring, either you’re very selective in your reading or your comprehension skills leave something to be desired.

Guy who made millions on property doesn’t understand property rights of others. NFL said it’s OK for their employees to kneel. End of story.
Dan 3:4 Then an herald cried aloud, To you it is commanded, O people, nations, and languages,
Dan 3:5 That at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king hath set up:
Dan 3:6 And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.
