  23. It’s not Halloween, I’m sure it would be offensive to wear any kind of garment associated with Islam…so what in Hades is it? IMO it’s phoniness personified, even practitioners of Islam should see through that…pure, unadulterated patronizing by a politician. She needs to come out in a few more “costumes” to include other dress preferences based on faith, the Amish for instance…. This is all about faith, in Canada we have freedom of religion. Sadly NUTley is trying to infer they are somehow being marginalized based on religion?

  29. Based on 2011 stats, the Muslim population of Calgary was 5.2% and Canada’s was 3.2% It’s likely a point or two higher now as the Muslim population seems to go up from 50% to 100% every 10 years. Rachel needs voting blocks like NE Calgary where most Muslims live.

  41. It is called identity politics and it thrives with politicians using an age-old principle called “Divide and Conquer”, the basis of cultural marxism. If I can get you to believe that I side with you as a victim against another group that is your oppressor, then you will vote for me and my policies. It is the proletariat versus the bourgeoisie, black versus white, gay versus straight, rich versus poor, landowner versus renter/squatter – pick a victim and you can find an enemy. It is a larger set of what Hitler did in World War II, claiming that the Nazis would rescue Germany from the rich Jews, just more variations. And it is used to justify any actions against the oppressor, even violence. It is used to silence the perceived oppressor because it is not based upon logic, just narrative and emotion. It is Rules for Radicals 101.
    Believe this, Notley would sing a different tune if she was subjected to the rights of women as described in Saudi Arabia – no driving, no being seen in public unaccompanied by a male relative, etc. She is completely insincere and false.

    In close electoral races divided between two or three parties, a 5-10 percent block vote can swing a number of constituencies.
    While those supporting political Islam, Sharia and a step by step goal of a Caliphate may not be a majority. For cultural reasons, the effect of block voting is to empower those who do. Those ones are well organized and well funded.
    The NDP government of Rachel Notely is unpopular and will lose the next provincial election.
    If not Alberta will be in more than just economic trouble.
    Canada is already experiencing a reduction to the rule of law and equality under the law now. It can only worsen, if identity politics is allowed to toss equality under the bus again.
    Now we have the Premier of Alberta fail to make any distinction between Islamic jihad/Sharia law advocates versus those Muslims, Hindus, Sihks, Buddhists and Christians who have come to Canada fleeing the totalitarianism of Sharia and the jihad it mandates.
    While under the radar, intimidation of non-Sharia compliant Muslims occurs now, and likely it is Canada wide.
    Historically, Canadian government to provide “peace, order and good government largely followed Charter/Common-Law and Magna Carta principles.
    To abandon that foundation… well, the road to perdition begins with the best of intentions.
    The suicidal altruism of NDP/Liberal politicians is madness personified.
    A free and open public debate on the issue with facts would unmasked this threat for all to see,… at least, all who are not willfully blind.
    It would avoid the needless bloodshed and suffering, we see elsewhere. It would allow a political, and effective solution.
    Some of Canada’s political leaders have placed us on a fast track to what Western Europe, Scandinavia and the Britain are experiencing. Their politicians have accepted that horror as the new normal.
    This is a repeat of what Hannah Arendt called the banality of evil.
    Sharia is the imposition of needless human suffering for it’s own sake, by definition evil.
    Presently, totalitarians(Marxist/political Islam) call for state persecution on the basis of what they call hate speech and Islamo-phobia.
    But ideas don’t have Rights, only individual citizens do.
    Critical thought protects us, as bad ideas get killed off, instead of people.
    It is one of the exceptional qualities of Western Civilization and a Canadian value. Preserve it.

  49. Like hello folks! It’s a babushka that the Russian-Ukrainian women of my grandmother’s generation wore to milk the cows or pick cabbages in the fall. I fail to see how that poses a threat to national security?? Just as long as she doesn’t wear it to cover her face when she’s driving on Deerfoot in Calgary!
