5 Replies to ““Great” Moments in Socialism”

  1. The video is so true, and we have politicians in the US such as Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and in Canada such as the NDP, Liberals and Greens that want to take us to the same place as Venezuela. Oh to be sure they will do it right this time.
Lying to the people to gain power and destroy democracy is a basic tenant of socialism.

  2. Ken,
Alas, democracy is no protection against socialism. Most socialist governments win at least one election. As for lying to the people, that is a feature of all political systems. Socialism’s greatest evil is subjugating the individual to the collective in the name of both equality and fraternity.
Liberty is the most precious political commodity but it is also the dearest. Socialism has sold the human soul for equality of experience and has doomed those who live under it to a fraternity of despair.
Speaking of Liberty being dear, my captcha is Currie Flanders.

  3. It is no coincidence that at the same time time Socialism is RISING and being praised in America … Christianity is being PERSECUTED and mocked. Christianity is ALL ABOUT Freedom and Liberty. Christ repeatedly said that he came to “set us free”. That we shall KNOW the TRUTH, and the TRUTH shall set us FREE. Christ said that he came not to abolish the “Law” but to teach us how to live. But make no mistake … living FREE is much more difficult than living in bondage. Living in bondage (of totalitarian political systems like Socialism) is easy. You are told what your job is. How many children you can have. What your wages will be. Which apartment block you will live in. Everything. The State takes “care” of everything. The State writes the LAWS that you WILL OBEY! That must be a real relief for weak minded people who struggle with day-to-day decisions. But FREEDOM requires much of every individual. Every decision, every moment of every day is up to the individual. You want to sleep all day? Go ahead. You want to say “screw school, I ain’t got time for that” … go ahead, have FUN. THAT is FREEDOM. But as you might suspect … FREEDOM comes with great responsibility. That is the part where Christ taught us that the “Law” … God’s innate Laws … of nature, if you will … must be written in our hearts. We must LEARN how to live in God’s world. How to treat each other with LOVE. How to have SELF-respect. How to make GOOD decisions on a daily basis. How to seek God’s words of LIFE. FREEDOM is HARD. Well, harder than bondage. At least initially (as Prager’s piece said) Socialism is GREAT! You’re getting things for FREE! Bondage (Socialism) is like being in Jail. At first, you might be relieved that you are receiving 3 meals a day … for FREE! But then it settles in that you are going NOWHERE. YOUR life is OVER. You are living in a cage … for the duration. FREEDOM requires you WORK, and that nothing is FREE … because EVERYTHING has VALUE. In Socialism … nothing (especially people) has any value. Christ’s words of FREEDOM, LOVE, (personal) RESPONSIBILITY, and INTEGRITY surely must scare the Holy Hell out of PROG’s who want The State to make every decision and provision in their lives. FREEDOM is HARD. FREEDOM is GREAT. Freedom is the natural state of mankind. Bondage is evil. Socialism is evil.

  4. As socialists run out of other peoples’ money, coercion always results, starting with taxation, to run their programs after they have maxed borrowing.
When the evil capitalists withdraw their productivity from the economy, that which hasn’t already been stolen from them, tax revenues plummet.
Solution: double down on socialism and attendant coercion and corruption, killing off imperialism one sucker at a time.
Villainize those who dare to question to status quo, eventually jailing and executing them. It has a familiar ring to it doesn’t it?
The money runs out, the people starve, are put on a “Maduro diet,” or some other more eternal condition such as jail &/or death.
Of course, despite being nearly extinct, the capitalists are “to blame.” Too bad when the economy hits bottom there are few if any capitalists left to villainize, execute or milk out of existence. Then and only then do the people realize they’ve been played, that their self-appointed freedom fighters work for the other team – the racist, fascist and violent team that plays the outgroup card – by then it is too late, as Ms De Sousa pointed out.
The whole thing is so inevitable, the only thing that varies is the speed and intensity at which it happens.
Meanwhile the middle class gets the bill the rich didn’t pay, until like the rich they disappear too, and finally we’re all “equal.”
Except for the apparatchiks in their guarded gaited communities and phony baloney jobs and confiscated wealth and power. They do great.
We climb out of the hole in our personal and business lives, after paying legion taxes, only to have a Justin doll tell us we’re in crisis against some bad guy named Harper, and everything will be sweetness and light if only we run “modest deficits.”
When that doesn’t ring true, no worries, just get the media to help you make up lies about recessions and budget deficits to make their stupidity somehow seem plausible. If you don’t agree, you are appealing to your “worst instincts,” which to a Grit means not voting for them and their cronies.
    Sound familiar?
Then the collectivists take us back down the rabbit hole, as our new royalty, more despotic and much less enlightened that ever.

  5. A WW2 veteran I knew once told me that in most of Europe after the war, a guy could get laid for one or two cigarettes.
I wonder how many rolls of toilet paper or tubes of toothpaste is the going rate in Venezuela these days.
