  2. No more “Indian” Affairs…it’s “Indigenous”. It must be ailing, Trudeau has appointed two female MP’s with medical backgrounds to take care of that portfolio in two different designations of the file. Jane Philpott is Indigenous Services Minister and Carolyn Bennett Minister of Crown Indigenous relations and Northern Affairs.
Wish them luck, changing names may be the only change that happens. Governments don’t want to do anything major or different to fix the mess, just look like they are and toss more money into the black hole to feed the same old problems.

Why Houston Flooding Isn’t a Sign of Climate Change
Major floods are difficult to compare throughout history because the ways in which we alter the landscape. For example, as cities like Houston expand over the years, soil is covered up by roads, parking lots, and buildings, with water rapidly draining off rather than soaking into the soil. The population of Houston is now ten times what it was in the 1920s. The Houston metroplex area has expanded greatly and the water drainage is basically in the direction of downtown Houston.

  5. Yes – using material damage in hurricanes is a meaningless measure of anything other than human stupidity. Katrina was only a category 3 hurricane but it struck a city 18 feet below sea level with dikes that couldn’t handle the storm surge of 14 feet. Some predictions had estimated a potential storm surge of as high as 28 fet. Sandy was a category 2 that struck the greater New York are with a massive concentration of people and tens of thousands of buildings in the 13 foot storm surge. Everything, in all cases was 100 % predictable and 100 % ignored. But hey, let’s blame it on global warming.

And now some news from the world of understatements:
“Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said China, North Korea’s main ally and trading partner, needed to do more.”
“China has to ratchet up the pressure,” Turnbull told Australian radio. “They have condemned these missiles tests like everyone else but with unique leverage comes unique responsibility.”
China said it opposed North Korea defying U.N. resolutions but adding that sanctions and pressure could not fundamentally solve the issue.”

  8. anybody seen the plethora of ‘Diana 20 years ago’ stuff on the telly?
the royals sure put the boots to the princess eh? I wonder if that palace fire was a bit of karma . . .
speaking of royals, there’s a thing on PBS about henry 8th. what a despicable murderous tyrant he was. some sort of mentor to john gotti.
‘cough up a male child or you get an axe across your scrawny neck’
royalty is the absolute oldest and biggest scam on the planet.
proof: keep going back, back, back. ALL ancestors, BOTH parents of ALL royals must be royals. aka ‘blue bloods’.
eventually this rules of lineage takes in the entire world population.
that being the case, we’re ALL royals !!!!
or this: we are ALL descendants of adam or a monkey, neither of which were royals. so NO ONE is.
or try this: all it takes is a self-declaration, kinda like emperor bonaparte. ok, I now declare myself a royal.
    etc etc
EVERY WAY you look at this scam and farce shows ‘royalty’ is a FRAUD.

  10. Is there nothing Obama can’t do?
    ———————————
Multiple senior Obama administration officials, including former secretary of state John Kerry, traveled the globe to promote trade with Iranian companies, including Iran Air, at the same time Iran was found to be ferrying militants into Syria. Lawmakers and others suspect the Obama administration either hid or downplayed this information in order to preserve the nuclear deal.

Trudeau suspended those party members immediately following the allegations, and in March 2015, permanently expelled them following the completion of an independent investigation into the claims. The NDP MPs were never named publicly.”

  14. Actually, what Indian Affairs – under whatever name it goes by – is a few good engineers who understand how to provide water and sanitation to small communities and, even more importantly, how to train the local kids to maintain said systems.

  15. Buff, guy, you might want to actually learn some history. Henry VIII was desperate for a male heir and, not knowing otherwise, thought his marriage to Queen Mary was cursed because she was his brother’s widow; in his world, queens regnant were a non-starter and would be dominated by their husbands who would assume kingship based on marriage. Think Henry’s daughter, Mary, and her fraught marriage. There is a reason Elizabeth I didn’t marry. Henry could have, by the time he started marrying and discarding wives, have been affected by syphilis.
Actually, I have limited sympathy for Henry VIII; he ascended the throne only because his father, Henry VII, defeated Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth. Richard III is vilified because he supposedly had a henchman murder his brother’s two young sons (the “Princes in the Tower); though there is no direct evidence of that. Henry VII, however, goes without censure though he killed off everyone else in the Plantagenet line save a one or two that Henry VIII disposed of. But neither Henry gets the bad press Richard does.
