  1. Was listening to NPR outa NYC this morning.
Here’s how they describe themselves: “Independent journalism for the greater public good.” Ha ha. Preposterous hubris.
    Don’t tell cbc.

  2. (I wrote this comment on the article’s page.)
Well, someone is laughing all the way to the bank and it sure isn’t those students.
Those students taking that masters degree in journalism are being played for suckers.
What Columbia University are inadvertently doing is ruining the reputation for academia as a whole by treating their students with such contempt and disdain.

  3. A bargain!
$600,000.00 a year is the starting salary at NBC if you have no experience, just ask Chelsea Clinton.

  4. It will be a REALLY cheap degree, when President Bernie Sanders forgives everyone’s student loans! Then, the student WINS … the school WINS … “journalism” WINS … everyone WINS … except the American taxpayers and their offspring for seventy generations. Colombia is simply milking the Golden Goose of government-financed education. Thank you Obama!

  5. Journalists should be funded by the government for the greater good–just like the CBC.

  6. The CBC doesn’t have any journalists, it only has propagandists. He who pays the piper calls the tune.

  7. A contrast between the US and Canada. Journalism is an academic program in the US. In Canada, it is usually a technical school or non-degree program, at least in Alberta. We consider journalism akin to snaking a crapper. McGill and Queen’s offer hard to fail MBAs for close to $100 grand, just because they can. Queen’s $135,128 – 16 months part time- no undergrad degree required. McGill – $89 grand – 15 months part-time – no undegrad degree required. Milking the cows.
To fool people into thinking I was smart, many years ago, I did a 15 course MBA from a very ordinary American university. It was half the degree of my U of Alberta Bachelor of Commerce. I suspect it was probably fairly equivalent to the Queen’s Executive MBA. I shelled out $5 grand.

  8. MBA without an undergrad is a scam. Over my lifetime I have observed quit a few people I know use it to advance a career. Some had an undergrad but others were high school level.
Employers who push MBA (read banks) are really utilizing it to fool their clients.

  9. Properly … snaking a crapper … is far more valuable to society than a biased news article intended to deceive. One of these actions clears out the crap … the other piles it up.

  10. I agree. And CBC should invite “citizen journalists” to do a brief commentary, like Rex Murphy, one night a week, for, say,a thousand taxpayer bucks.
Hell, I could use an extra thousand smackers, and will speechify exactly as CBC wants. Global warming? hell yes! Be scared sh!tless! Then I’ll be a celebrity and get the chicks, just like Gian did.
Four minutes of fame is good enough for me, Citizen Journalist Morris. Da.
