Those little skits nail it fairly accurately. In short, “winning an election means you are the emperor, and everyone else is an diot” pretty much explains the behavior of every government everywhere.
And they are correct. How else do you explain a phenomena like 50% unreliable power by 2030 Brad Wall causing him to be hailed as a hero, while the same people say 30% unreliables Notley is bad? The cognitive dissonance is real. Just cause we are going to complete and total ruin by a different route, in what may be a slower mode, don’t mean the destination isn’t the same. Government is your enemy. Anything government wants to do is for government. It may benefit you in some way for some amount of time; but it always benefits government more for a longer period.
Just wait and see. There will be a carbon tax in Saskatchewan, and it will be Brad Wall that does it. And all of Wall’s fan people will say how it is good because it is better than how anyone else would have done it.
Don’t doubt that Canada is ruled by a uniparty too.

Here in Ontario, the Great Lakes are getting rather full, so we’ve had floods. OBVIOUS signs of “the new normal” caused by climate change/disruption global warming etc. etc. ad nauseum.
Except…only three years ago the Great Lakes were very low. Freighters were in danger of getting stuck in the mud, boaters were complaining that their docks were too far from the water…
Average a dry spring, a few average springs and a wet spring over 5 years and you get…nothing. Not a speck of lake level change that can be discerned from the noise and rounding.
My last kick at the debate can was pointing out when someone said that last year was the “second warmest year EVAH!!!!” that this meant less than 200 years, and that “history” does not mean the same as “recorded history”.
Sure, they came back with, that’s why they use proxies like tree rings and coral and…and…and…
Sure, I said, and none of those proxies have an accuracy close to our modern measuring (tree rings, which don’t just measure temperature anyway, are at best “accurate” within 2 degrees F), and that the difference between “hot years” is measured in tenths of a degree. Oh, and can they give me a link to a scientist who says it was the second hottest in earth’s history.
Sure, they say, here’s a link.
No, I say, that says “recorded history” right there in the first paragraph. Try again.

That is so well acted. The scared little politician gives the smug self assured media man the old ‘you want stupid I’ll show you stupid’ and the media guy can only slink out of the room without so much as a comment because he well knows that everyone is for ‘saving the planet’.
