In the bubble in which she lives, in the world in which she travels, in the frame of reference in which she nestles like a baby nestling in a Moses basket, it must have seemed to Kathy Griffin that there could be no way she could go too far if the object of her unspeakable provocation was Donald Trump.
In fact, she must have believed, the further she would be willing to go, the more praise her action would be likely to engender.
That was not an unreasonable belief…
More: The bigger picture is that the country is living two movies at the same time, and Griffin was acting “normal” in one of them.

anything Trump is a target now, just ask Ken Jennings….
Both articles were a good read.
“And I also respect her rapid and thorough apology.”
Hmmmm, most every other opinion piece I have read interpreted her apology as weak. And how can it be friggin’ “thorough” when she did not even address Trump or his family directly?
Apart from those points, since Scott pointed out his personal bias at the outset, I thought his writing on the topic quite perceptive, as usual. The two different movies analogy is absolutely spot on.
I do appreciate the insight of your essays/comments and naturally Dilbert. However i can and do compare this walking both sides of the Great Divide Street with Bernie Goldberg’s failing attempt to do as you have, in my opinion, with this offering.
Trying to remain in the sunlight or shade as the situation dictates for yourself.
Bernie has struggled since Donald J. Trump entered the Political Arena in a “Really Big” manner. Steadily becoming a different person/monster affecting the crowd/customers Mr. Goldberg has earned his living from for decades. Now using the either inherent skill good journalists achieve through experience or a natural feel for the ambient situation of American Politics, as you have described.
Bernie is failing; he is becoming a person from the back of the scenario yelling things not being listened to because of pandering. Not being a Goose or Gander is where most People with the Political interest to read political opinion between major is where most People live in their thoughts. Is it this or that?
Whatever i must finish this report; coach my Kid’s team; get another beer and/or another such reason to move away. Dichotomy is for expert bystanders such as yourself and retired People with years of people watching as part of the “job/career” or just avocation.
Please claim Your side of the Street to walk on; do not abandon those on the other side; the Great Experiment is In Danger. Clarity of purpose is demanded. Cheers;
Funny thing … is that when I started reading Kate’s selected excerpt … I thought this was an article about Hillary Clinton’s bizarre ramblings yesterday … which I consider far more sinister than a bad attempt at satire by some annoying nasally New York comedienne.
Hillary is the one living in a parallel, isolated, insulated, bizarro world. Talk about paranoid denial. Hillary is so far out of touch … that she makes Tiger Woods DUI video look like a Mensa member taking an IQ test. Hillary should never venture out of her Chappequa compound. She’ll be reported as an escapee from a geriatric mental hospital.
I completely accept your critique of THAT comedienne’s apology … however … my initial reaction was much closer to Scott’s. What I had EXPECTED to hear from THAT comedienne was the prototypical slimy apology/accusation by leftists caught by a tidal wave of public opinion. The “apology” that goes along the lines of … “I’m sorry that YOU were offended by my …”
But you are right … not a word about how her insensitivity (a favorite leftist word) impacted members of the Trump family. Not a word about the ILLEGALITY of threatening the life of a US President.
I’m a bit surprised that NO ONE who helped her with that stunt had the foresight (or influence) to derail it before she went public with it(?). It was so obviously a trainwreck in the making.
In any case a well deserved smack down for Griffin and her posse.
‘Bout time the Secret Service and FBI started taking these ‘threats’ more seriously.
“Bout time the Secret Service and FBI started taking these ‘threats’ more seriously.”
Only Rednecks are dangerous, liberals a just joking. Isn’t that how the narrative goes?
How about we stop giving this useless, pathetic human any more publicity?
Scott Adams calls the right hypocrites for being outraged at the picture. I disagree, Griffin has every right to say and do what she wants, however, there are consequences, I will never watch or listen to her again and it sounds like most people feel the same way. If you do something stupid, don’t expect to skate along with suffering the consequences it has nothing to do with politically correct.
We have seen Salome. We already know Herodias. Who will play the part of Herod?
She apologized to gain her own forgiveness, she did not apologize to Donald Trump and his familly.
Scott Adams sure blew it, because of his bias, he should have taken a pass. And then to call the “right” hypocrites, was the final nail in the coffin of his piece. The left always screams racist, bias, homophobe, or what ever, at any opinion they disagree with.
Because this nonsense can trigger some fool to try and copy her actions, because of the Trump Derangement Syndrome, and because it could, and did upset Trump’s son, the right did not only have the right to be critical, they have an obligation to be so
I strongly suspect that any average citizen who produced a similar bust of Trudeau would end up in jail. I believe there are already people that have been jailed for uttering far less .
She has a right to express herself as she sees fit and CNN have a right to extinguish her employment but I wish they hadn’t done so. They aren’t as crude as Griffin but they essentially agree with her and anyone else suffering from TDS. Only losers watch CNN so why not let the toilet bowl flush vortex accelerate. They deserve one another.
Trump should hold a press conference with the relatives of Americans who’ve been beheaded by ISIS. Let them announce to the world just how amusing they found Kathy’s joke to be. Of course it’s awful for the Trump family, no question about that, particularly Barron. But let’s also think about the casual, unthinking cruelty inflicted on the families and friends who will never get over the horror of knowing their loved one died that way, and knowing it’s out there on the internet for millions of people to watch if they choose to.
Dilbert thinks if one does not agree with someone doing something so disgusting that they are hypocrites. If I condemn it as an offensive act then I’m a hypocrite.
Well so be it. I also don’t care what he thinks of my assessment. I don’t let the left determine what I think nor will I let anyone else.
