That whatever your stance on marijuana usage, legality or access, you are going to be disappointed.
No gov’t initiative ever satisfies. Ever.
That whatever your stance on marijuana usage, legality or access, you are going to be disappointed.
No gov’t initiative ever satisfies. Ever.
Even the Washington Post has noticed that Trudeau is a goof.
Trudeau’s plan to legalize pot is an insult to Canadians
As long as the right people make money from legal weed and as long as it wears down the middle class and destroys families and lives, I’m happy.
Employers are going to need to step up their random drug screening, especially in any critical services, equipment operation, and a host of other environments.
Most importantly we need to pass a felony law for random drug screening of ALL public figures as well – that should take care of the NDP & Liberal loons.
Priorities – They should register and ban their Drugs….
“Overdose deaths from just one kind of opioid painkiller outnumbered all homicides in Colorado in 2015, according to new data from the state’s Health Department.” – The Denver Post
http://www.denverpost.com/2017/01/03/colorado-opioid-heroin-deaths-outnumbered-homicides/
“whatever your stance on marijuana usage, legality or access, you are going to be disappointed.”
There’s where you’re wrong.
I have ZERO expectations from this government.
I don’t use marijuana.
I won’t be disappointed, but I will be laughing at all of those who are.
Well so much for, legalizing pot reduces crime shtick – at least homeowners there are legally allowed to protect themselves, their families, and their property – Not so much in Canada.
“Prosecutors: Colorado sees increase in homicides motivated by marijuana”
http://kdvr.com/2016/05/24/prosecutors-colorado-sees-increase-in-murders-motivated-by-marijuana/
“In Aurora, the last 10 of 15 drug-related homicide cases were connected to marijuana.”
“There is increased crime, sometimes violent crime, associated with legalization of marijuana,” Brauchler said. “That’s not what you’d expect. You’d expect the harder-core drugs.”………….”It is easier for there to be black market in a legalized system than there was before,” he said.
“…if government can kill off the black market for the drug…”
It won’t. The age limit on sales alone guarantees the black market will continue. Brad Wall is entirely right that enforcement costs will go up. Raise taxes to cover the costs and the black market only grows.
The provinces should be annoyed at this. This legislation throws all the burden of enforcement on them.
Smoking tobacco is bad, m’kay. But smoking marijuana has no deleterious effects whatsoever m’kay. Alchol is bad, m’kay. But marijuana cures cancer, aids, multiple sclerosis, everything, m’kay.
Marijuana is the only substance in the universe for which burning it and inhaling the smoke is good, m’kay.
Not a cult! No no no no no no no…
Random drug testing is not allowed in Canada. Period. Full stop. End of sentence.
Trudeau has been stoned since he was 12. It shows.
Kevin >
“Random drug testing is not allowed in Canada. Period. Full stop. End of sentence”
Your joking right?
“Trudeau has been stoned since he was 12. It shows.”
I don’t doubt it. Did his mom smoke a lot of weed? She is a dumb as him, maybe even dumber.
I always have a good laugh when dumb Juthtin makes the preposterous declaration that when the Government becomes the new weed dealer organized crime will then magically disappear. Ahhhhh, nope. Libranos will say anything and do anything if they think it will enrich themselves. “Medicinal Marijuana” thats funny, like medicinal heroin. Hey if the Libranos want to be the new weed dealer then just do it, but cut the bullshit already.
The Spawn will claim all the glory while downloading most of the issues and responsibilities to the Provinces. Legalizing recreational use of marijuana is an exercise in another futile attempt at regulating irresponsible behavior within the leviathan welfare state which incentivises irresponsible behavior. IOW, go ahead and be a f..k-up, we’ll force your neighbours at gun point to pay to take care of you regardless of your resultant behavior. The Canadian Indian Reserve is not simply a failed socialist apartheid ghetto model to serve as something to be avoided but incredibly for too many, a beacon for our future.
In reality, the ultimate regulations will leave a competing black market intact as the stuff is defacto legal now and readily available to anyone who wants it. At the end of the day trying enforce regulations on something that anyone can grow in their back yard or under a light in the basement is futile.
Bongo appears heavily medicated. Has for years. Guys that cross the floor shoving women around and grabbing guys…..yeah that erratic behaviour happens all the time – in all work environments.
Maybe he was off his meds when he did that but a buddy in Ottawa said there was a story floating around that bongo put a gal in the PMO up against a wall. I dunno? Maybe.
Income tax, sales tax and the GST has produced a black market in just about all goods and services from dentists to plumbers. The illicit drug trade will be no different.
Out here on the left coast in BC the useless wonders get sad and cry about the cloudy winters and they get medical pot for their “disability”. Then they smoke it wherever they want. And are generally the most useless human beings. Nothing but a drain on everyone. They are part of the scourge of society.
“I just want my M-tv”….
abtrapper nails it.
The crap in marijuana smoke is just as bad, and some studies indicate worse, than the insidious toxins found in tobacco smoke. So where are the marijuana users going to gather to enjoy themselves with their newly legalized product? In a bar? Nope. How about a café strictly for marijuana users? Nyet. And if you happen to live in Saskatoon, patios, outdoor sporting events and even public parks are off limits for smoking in any way, shape or form and that includes vaping.
So where is the Cancer Society with its never-ending, over the top scolding about the evils of secondhand smoke and its constant demand for more bans and restrictions? Strangely silent. Could it be that waging warfare against tobacco users is fashionable yet criticizing marijuana users is somehow off limits and politically incorrect. I smell hypocrisy in the wind.

“kevinsays… marijuana cures cancer, aids, multiple sclerosis, everything, m’kay.”
and it makes you smarter AND better-looking.
as for legality… well, that’s a joke.
mrs neo knows a woman who buys at the clinic (she has a medical marijuana scrip)
on the tyendinaga mohawk reserve. she has never been asked to produce any
paperwork at all. now that’s customer service.

biffjr >
“So where are the marijuana users going to gather to enjoy themselves with their newly legalized product?”
Where they always have, at home around their kids.
The USSR provided free Vodka to everyone such that they would temporarily forget the failure of Communism. Those in Alberta/ Ontario that are unemployed will get the same type of medication. The Communist solution will result in empty minds that don’t want to work and can’t fend for themselves…They will be dead in a generation
Just drive in Vancouver’s westend and open your car windows and you will get high just smelling second hand marijuana smoke. So much for legalization…non smokers have no rights. Vancouver must be the pot capital of north america already.
*
“marigold says… Just drive in Vancouver’s westend…”
speaking of driving…
“In terms of impaired driving, the government is promising
a system of roadside testing for cannabis impairment
‘before legalization occurs’.”
ah, yes… the cheque is in the mail.

I would whole heartedly vote for the legalization of pot if:
– Canada legalizes “Conceal Carry”.
– Canada legalizes “Castle Laws”.
– Canada legalizes “Stand Your Ground”.
– Penalties doubled for crimes committed while “under the influence”.
– Openly using drugs that come into physical contact with children be considered & charged with “child abuse”. Not simply endangerment.
– Adults trafficking drugs to children = Life imprisonment.
– Medical treatment for drug related issues (including alcohol) “paid out of pocket”
– Public / political decision makers are included for “random drug testing”
Another ‘you must be a Liberal’ if you believe smoking tobacco is harmful to your health but smoking ‘medical’ marijuana is beneficial.
I’m waiting on the first lawsuit against the government when someone on a dopey high ends up killing someone because they were cognitively impaired. Someone in a government licensed industry like, oh, let’s say an airline mechanic that screws up a maintenance check and the airplane crashes, or how about a truck-driver that causes a multiple crash pile-up killing several people because his reaction time was slowed by his recreational use.
And then there is the additional problem for travelers going to a country that still recognizes the drug as illegal. Can you imagine the line-ups at US customs offices as we are all delayed because of the random searches.
How is this legalization going to impact industry and commerce when the laid-back attitude from marijuana indulgence starts to appear on the assembly line in larger and larger numbers.
Further to my last post there is an up-side to the legalization. Look at all the Hollywood dingbats that said they would move to Canada if Trump won, but didn’t move. Now they have a better reason to move North.
Oh I guarantee good friends of federal Liberals who also happen to be planning big investments in the marijuana industry will be happy. And I also guarantee Liberal fund raisers will be happy too.
Oh c’mon Patrick, doctors and lawyers and accountants and all kinds of people smoke dope. The Stoner brigade says so. Don’t stereotype them! /SARC.
The only mayor here is LaLaland that has common sense, is Stew Young of Langford. He has consistently shut down a stoner shop that has repeatedly tried to open. Stew doesn’t fck around, he sends in the RCMP next day to fix them up good.
Eventually, yes, it will be a losing battle, but hey, Stew’s got the right idea.
And yes, the hypocrisy surrounding pot by the various orgs is so typical of social agencies.
I’ve mmoved my position and admit to hypocrisy. I’ve accepted that Spud will legalize it, despite his gross incompetence. He just better tax the shit out of it, on the same level as alcohol and smokes. Fair is Fair, as the smug lefties say!
Deplorable Dan >
Absolutely, Progressive Liberals love their doctors, judges, police, and any other emergency services STONED when they need them.
It’s their damned right after all.
“No gov’t initiative ever satisfies. Ever.”
That is so true. It brings to my mind that anti-marijuana initiative that the Liberal Party of Canada pursued in 1923.
And to think that less than 1/1000 Canadians had ever even heard of marijuana back then. Idle hands, eh?
TAX the HELL out of the DOPERS ! Sin TAX them to DEATH … at LEAST as HIGH (no pun intended) as CIGARETTE TAXES (or sodas for that matter). That way … we will be essentially RECYCLING our welfare payments to the idle dopers. We pay them … they will buy DOPE with their EBT cards and welfare cash. DOPE which is TAXED to the HILT … so we get some of our $$$$$ back from these loser dopers.
Except for; black market. They will still get welfare. They will pay no taxes.
They’ve updated the drunk driving laws in Canada to include pot and demand saliva samples to test for it too. Careful what you wish for stoners because if you smoke up and drive (which most do) you’re about to get taken to jail.
Kenji…pot is a lot easier to grow than tobacco is.
Part of the linked article is that if the government wants any taxes they’ll have to make sure that it’s cheaper to buy government approved pot than to grow your own.
This proposed bill looks less like its intent was public safety and more like legalizing extortion.
All the activists said they wanted was to change the charge of possession of small amounts to a non criminal offence. Now those recreational users will learn what it was like to be a wheat farmer before the market monopoly was put to an end.
You get to grow 4 plants? Thats nice, where do you get the seeds? If you obtain product from a non government approved source is there a penalty similar to someone growing tobacco without a licence?
Yep, nice biznus youse got der shame if sumptin shud happin to it.
Put away your dog-eared copy of Orwell’s “1984”, as there is another novel that faithfully documents our future. Dig it out; it’s Huxley’s “Brave New World”.
“Thats nice, where do you get the seeds?”
People who grow pot these days don’t grow from seeds. They buy cuttings from a successful plant and clone them with rooting hormone.
That way you could start with a successful female and then recreate it with cuttings at each quarter of growth and never exceed the 4 plant limit while constantly having a mature plant come into bloom.
(or so I’ve heard)
I can’t help thinking that the government will so over-regulate pot that even the hazy old potheads will realize: “Hey! We’re bein’ screwed, man!” And so it will only lead to one thing: illegal marijuana grow-ups and consumption. In other words, right back where we started.
Also, I love all the solicitous noise of how the government will be ensuring minors won’t be able to get their hands on the stuff, etc., etc. Question to the clever government types: how do they get their hands on it now? In other words, for minors, no change!
Oh I don’t doubt they can do that.
The problem isn’t what they can and can’t do it’s what an intrusive government will do if given the opportunity. I regress back to my point that this bill doesn’t seem to be about safety, compassion, or any other of the usual liberal platitudes they trot out. This bill is about legitimizing a recreational drug so they get a cut of the action.
It was once claimed the lieberals where no different than organized crime.
This isn’t a law for freedom or safety, its just a syndicate looking to control the market and competition wont be tolerated.
Your shouting in caps makes it look like you’re stoned on weed.
I won’t be surprised if JT announces that they just discovered the UN treaties which prevent Canada from legalizing weed, so “sorry ’bout that we tried to do as we promised but the UN prevented it.”
So guess who gets to pay for the welfare for those with acquired slowness . . . people who work, and are penalised for it. Stay high, call it a disability, and enjoy!
Obviously a marijuana cigarette is worse for you than a tobacco cigarette.
But, I’ll raise that a bronchitis to anyone who smokes 25 joints a day.
Selling edibles will be interesting. While you can’t OD you can end up spending about two or three hours as a drooling idiot if you’re not careful.
Well anyway, that’s what I hear people say. ; )
The government, through legalization, will take a profitable cash crop and turn into a money loser in short order, you can go to the bank with that one.
The government will be there, with your money. The police will go back to sobriety testing, like they used to before the breathalyzer.
Oh, stoners: by fiat, or axiom if you like, your weed will end up harder to get at higher cost. I suggest keeping your dealer close or taking up horticulture.
Will the frequency of bar fights drop? Will potato chip sales increase? Who knows what will be the eventual implications of this?
BTW Justin, if you’re really interested in “protecting the kids” then impose harsh sentences for selling pot to kids, as if it were PCP.
If you don’t, assuming this bunch actually gets their gubmit wacky weed stores going, the criminal dealers will turn naturally to our kids.
A gong show of impaired driving cases awaits as well with no legally precise measurement of THC psychoactive impairment, just ingestion.
I’m sure the Grits are being upfront, look how upfront they were with the new requirement to report principal residence sales on our tax returns.
I’m sure everything will go well with their “carbon pricing” too. Let’s wish them all good luck with our money. What’s important is that we have a cool PM!
I don’t smoke pot, but if they legalize it, I’m pretty sure I’ll become a drug-crazed heroin addict, and if it could happen to me, it could happen to EVERYBODY!
Death penalty for possession, no matter how small an amount. That’ll learn them doper punk kids!
“Obviously a marijuana cigarette is worse for you than a tobacco cigarette.”
Or Ritalin which they’ve been dosing prepubescent boys with for decades and few seem to be alarmed.
“Or Ritalin which they’ve been dosing prepubescent boys with for decades and few seem to be alarmed.”
Not only are people not alarmed, but they believe the BS that that same establishment says about pot.
The government should not be in the drug regulation business, or the gun regulation business, or the booze regulation business, or the oil regulation business, or the food regulation business, or the education business. In short, if a given good or service is available in the private sector, then the government should butt out altogether, and stick to national defense and arbitration between parties. Even then, there are strong arguments that those too should be in the private sector.
CreepyClown >
“Sounds like you’re just itching to clip somebody without going to jail.”
Uh, no – I actually don’t give a rats ass if someone wants to stick poison in their veins and froth all over the floor, or butcher their unborn babies, or stuff their face with french fries all day long until they have a fat haemorrhage – I simply don’t want to pay for it.
Otherwise as I and other tax paying Canadians ARE indeed forced to pay for it, we have every right to demand laws that allow us to protect ourselves from the fallout of societies losers that don’t have the strength and fortitude to treat themselves like human beings, and are free prey on those that do.
Canadians should have the right to protect themselves from societies scum, it’s not a wonder that the scum disagree.
Exactly true, and I agree totally.
Unfortunately we have a government run by idiots who believe everyone is inherently good unless influenced by bad objects, which therefore must be prohibited, or stringently regulated.
This discussion shows how opinionated some people can be over something with which they have no first hand experience.
we will all pay the price for this latest liberal folly by way of increased accidents on the roads and increased auto insurance premiums to cover the cost of the carnage.
Considering the success of the prohibition laws, I have no confidence what so ever that this group of idiots will come up with a workable plan. If the government is involved at any level, the black market will prevail because it is well established, regulates itself and most importantly tax free, government is incapable of any of these things.
