That would be the Fifties, when sexual harassment in the workplace wasn’t yet recognized by the courts, a woman could be fired from her workplace for being pregnant, marital rape was still legal, Title IX didn’t yet exist, and for that matter, same-sex intercourse was illegal and Jim Crow laws still existed in much of the country.

Working my way up in a male dominated, rust belt industry there were trials and tribulations. Some were due to naivety, an inability to understand that things weren’t black and white and that some people had agenda other than getting the work done and moving the company forward. Generally, the guys either ignored me or served as tremendous mentors. While there’s always a jerk somewhere, I can tell you, the most arrogant, egotistical and insecure people I worked with were the Gen X women who started capturing senior positions in the 2000s. Simply pathetic.
