Researchers at the University of Surrey said the findings showed an “environmental injustice” was at play, with those who create the most pollution having the least exposure to it.
“Environmental Injustice”, the only injustice is the fact that people using public transport don’t have the associated costs of owning a private vehicle.

These must be really stupid people lacking the slightest inkling about auto mechanics. The hot air or cold air blowing out of your heating and air conditioning system comes from TA DA – outside the car – off the street. Some cars filter out particles but the gasses are all there for the sucking.
Next thing ya know, bicycle riders will want their bike lanes enclosed in clean-air tunnel.
Mass transit should be run as a zero cost operation. Raise transit fees 4000% and stop subsidising it with our taxes. Damn holier than thou environmentalists – freeloading on the backs of taxpayers and spitting in our eye for the privilege.
U.S. EPA standard for PM10 is 150 micrograms/24 hours. Apparently some of the underground trains with open windows (didn’t know you could do that anywhere) is 68 micrograms/trip. As usual, without actually seeing the data one can not tell how the results actually affect environmental justice. The Daily Mirror is not a good place to get your scientific facts. Or any facts for that matter.
In other news, I couldn’t help notice that they still use miles per hour (mph) in their stories. And ‘stone’ for weight. I thought the British were on the metric system. Also, they still persist in sitting and driving on the wrong side in their automobiles.
And I thought the press in the U.S. was bad………..
The Daily Mirror? Isn’t that the newspaper back in the 1960s, when I was a young lad, that we got from an English born aunt that occasionally had pictures of bare breasted women. That and National Geographic were my favorite reading.
NO
Scar, in most modern cars, the air for the HVAC system is drawn in through a HEPA filter. If you’re sitting in traffic with your windows closed you’re breathing micro-filtered air. Buses and subway cars have to open the doors frequently and the doors don’t seal properly; you can see daylight around the doors on most buses.
You all may laugh, but the future is not 4000 lb electric cars but ultra light electric assisted Velomobiles. Once serious developMENT is done, I think they will flood the market. Imagine commuting for almost nothing, entry cost far less than a cheap car.

Automotive cabin air filters
The cabin air filter is typically a pleated-paper filter that is placed in the outside-air intake for the vehicle’s passenger compartment. Some of these filters are rectangular and similar in shape to the combustion air filter. Others are uniquely shaped to fit the available space of particular vehicles’ outside-air intakes.
The first automaker to include a disposable filter to clean the ventilation system was the Nash Motors “Weather Eye”, introduced in 1940.[2]
Being a relatively recent addition to automobile equipment, this filter is often overlooked, and can greatly reduce the effectiveness of the vehicle’s air conditioning and heating performance. Clogged or dirty cabin air filters can significantly reduce airflow from the cabin vents, as well as introduce allergens into the cabin air stream. The poor performance of these filters is obscured by manufacturers by not using the MERV rating system. Some people mistakenly believe that some of these are HEPA filters.

“..with those who create the most pollution having the least exposure to it.”
Replace “pollution” with “Muslim immigration” and nothing changes.
How ironic … the eco-ghouls all INSIST that humans be packed like lemmings into ever more densely populated Urban Centers. And nowwwwwww they wake up to their stupidity by noticing the ILL effects of doing so ?
The eco-Marxists are clearly not the brightest people on the planet. I vote that THEY all be volunteered for eco-euthanasia.
Oh … and I should also note that MANY new “affordable” housing projects in CA are now being DENIED from being built … if they are too close to Freeways. The new State of CA air quality standards demand Environmental Impact Reports that include measurements of air pollution at building sites, including projections for how much the pollution will INCREASE in the future. Too much pollution at your Urban-infill building site ? You’re SCREWED – no building allowed.
It is routine for any one of the MILLIONS of supposedly well-intentioned REGULATIONS to cancel each other out.
So the State of CA is desperately trying to ENFORCE their multiple “affordable” housing regulations … only to DENY developers urban-infill housing projects to “protect” the public.
We have officially over-complicated our society as we attempt to put each and every human in a plastic bubble of “safety” as constructed by our Marxist overlords.
The TRUMP Revolution MUST. NOT. FAIL.

“How ironic…..”
It’s sort of like “the world is polluted & overpopulating” so lets use lots of pesticide & ground water to increase food production to feed the Third World.
Another great leftist zinger:
“1 Western child produces garbage and pollution equivalent to a small African village – so – lets import millions of poor illiterate Africans to become western middle class polluters!”
John, my Range Rover and my Civic both call them HEPA filters in the shop manual. The filter costs over $60 at the Honda dealership but the Canadian Tire replacement is around $15, so I suspect the cheapie is not HEPA. Even if most automotive cabin air filters are not to the HEPA standard there is still a filter which is more than a public transit bus has.
My filterless ’86 BMW used to accumulate enough grime and road salt on the inside of the windshield in the winter that I cleaned it monthly. The Civic windshield stays so clean that I drive 30,000miles before cleaning it.
Even if most automotive cabin air filters are not to the HEPA standard there is still a filter which is more than a public transit bus has.
Agreed, and yes at that price the OEM filters in your vehicle are likely HEPA. HEPA filters are impractical and unsuitable for most vehicle applications as a primary filter, they clog too easily with normal road dirt. They do have limited application for filtering recirculated cabin air.
Whatever “environmental injustice” is supposed to be, it is certainly not science.
Yes. By self-definition, it is in service to something other than pure scientific inquiry itself.
I am soooooooo old that I can remember when riding a bus, or driving a car, was NoT a political statement.
BTW if the word “justice” occurs it has nothing to do with science.
You want to breathe polluted air?
Just step into the nearest big enclosed shopping mall and take a deep breath. 101 aromas of animal, vegetable and mineral all mixed together for your breathing pleasure.
If that’s the case then the ventilation systems are not functioning correctly, either by accident or on purpose to save energy. Outdoor air is expensive to heat or cool, so shoddy operators will reduce outdoor air below the healthy minimums to reduce operating costs.
“BTW if the word ‘justice’ occurs it has nothing to do with science.”
And also, if the word “justice” is further qualified in some way (e.g. environmental justice), it probably has very little to do with justice at all.
I think it was the writer Paul Fussell who once observed that the line engraved above the entrance to the US Supreme Court – EQUAL JUSTICE UNDER LAW – contained three more words than were necessary, JUSTICE perfectly implying by itself the other three.
When I am driving behind a bus full of people using public transport to “help save the planet” it is an injustice that it is me who has to smell the burned diesel and breath in those pollutants.
those liberals sitting comfortably in the bus are not breathing in the burned diesel used to give them a clean conscience, it is me who pays a price for their choice.
I am half kidding but I seriously hate the smell of burned diesel
it smells so bad, I can not believe it is better than burning gasoline.
