Playoff day.

Packers at Falcons
and
Steelers at Patriots.
I think the home teams take it to make it a Falcons/Patriots Superbowl. Course that might just be because while I’m a Seahawks fan, everyone I know cheers for either Green Bay or Pittsburg (or both).

  1. Vikings fans like me have to hope for the worst for the accursed Packers. The Falcons are one team that can match the Packers in a shootout, plus their offence is more balanced and defence better. Other game can go either way.

  2. Some sports commenters have said the Patriots didn’t have a difficult season, and now the Steelers have nearly a dozen sick with stomach flu.
    I wish this wasn’t so.

  3. Went to the U of Alberta, and am an Eskimo fan. Something about Green Bay feels like home, I can’t explain it. Also, Green Bay is half the size of Regina, 2 hours from Milwaukee.

  4. RN is a Cowboys fan. Been one since ’72.
Teams I hate in order with most hated first:
    Redskins
    Eagles
    Giants
    Packers
    Steelers
    49ers
    Whoever is playing the Cowboys
    Go Falcons. Go Patriots.

  5. My only dog in the hunt is Aaron Rodgers … proud Butte Jr. College (and CAL) qb. But I doubt they have enough tools to win. So, I will just enjoy the game and wait for the post game press conference when Rodgers is asked about his estranged relationship with his family

  6. This is the “Circus” part of “Bread and Circuses” and it is followed eagerly by the kind of people who can be easily swayed by Bread and Circuses.

  7. It’s tough to bet against Rodgers and the Packers, also from a Seahawks fan.
The scuttlebutt is the Packers are hurting, like the ‘hawks were, so will be easy pickings for the Atlanta offence.
The Pack has confounded their critics, rising from the dead to make the playoffs. So I’ll take a flyer and go for them and the Steelers in the Super Bowl.

  8. Hey! Ding! The laziest of metaphors makes an appearance.
That it is completely wrong, ignorant of the point, is of no matter.

  9. “Went to the U of Alberta, and am an Eskimo fan. Something about Green Bay feels like home, I can’t explain it. Also, Green Bay is half the size of Regina, 2 hours from Milwaukee.”
Same here. Just a natural association.

  10. Just to be completely clear, bread and circuses was about buying votes, not distracting them. It was an admonishment to the citizenry about being soft.
A more apt modern simile would be foodstamps and the arts. Both fully funded by politicians and no helmets required.
But, then, gotta rewrite that history, dontcha know.

  11. Lance … JohnPeg forgot to mention NASCAR as another “right-wing” “circus” distraction. Boy howdy, golly, all them dumb Republicans sure do like them some mindless pastimes. Not quite as refined and cultured as the wonderfully intelligent liberals who spend their leisure time watching Hollywood films distort reality and history. Yeah … the leftists gotta diminish the “populists” … to f-e-e-l better about themselves. Oh, and shooting all their guns … Yeah … and killing all them living critters … yeah that’s another right wing “circus” … right JohnPeg ?

  12. Another asinine statement by a liberal/socialist/marxist. I know judges, doctors and a variety of others who are very intelligent who follow sports of all kinds.
Usually it’s the loser liberal/socialist/marxist types who can’t achieve anything in their life that complain about sports. Probably because sports typifies everything they can’t do — succeed on their own talents.
You should just hunker down today and watch and Inconvenient Truth or Bowling for Columbine as they are the drivel pandering to the weak minded that you seem to understand.

  13. Don’t usually cheer on the Pats but QB RothlesAhole is a human piece of excrement. Had he not been a big NFL star he’d have done serious time in prison.

  14. Sports is too competitive for some who want to be told they won before the contest even begins.
