Calgary had its Olympics, and it was the best Olympics ever (to quote Juan Antonio Samaranch). Any future Olympics in Calgary will inevitably be compared to 1988 and be found lacking. Having said that, the facilities already exist and Lake Placid has hosted two games, as has St. Moritz and Innsbruck. In 1988 there was a chinook just before the games and they had to make snow, perhaps a second games would have real snow.
It all comes down to cost. Last time there was a legion of volunteers, and in 2026 Calgary will still be Calgary. When I lived there from 92 to 2005, the bobsled run and ski jumps were still in regular use and being maintained, but I couldn’t say about the last decade. If there are no major renovations required, and very few new buildings needed, then a Calgary Olympics could come out in the black. If it’s just an excuse to build a new arena for the Flames, no.
Corruption, kickbacks, overbilling, graft, all paid for on the public dime while hiding behind young excited athletes who are oblivious to the whole affair. I boycott companies that sponsor these corrupt games , bought my last Panasonic product years ago once they jumped on board.

Reusing the two most expensive venues makes more sense then building them again. The Oval and Sliding Centre are done. Downhill Course at Louise would be epic. That is the future of Olympics, reusing the expensive venues. So Yes!

The 88 Olympics were used by Ralph to unite the city and bring it pride, by enlisting tons of volunteers who made it all work. Lougheed supported the bid, Ralph led the charge, and the city responded in a united effort. The culture of the day was vintage Alberta – get government the hell out of the way and let us do our job.
That said, the answer to a 2026 Calgary Olympic bid is “Hell NO!” To be blunt, Nenshi is no Ralph, and Alberta is being run into the ground by Socialists – it would be a disaster.
