Socialism: it’s going to start working any moment now.
Venezuela’s highest denomination banknote has ceased to be legal tender, in a move that has caused cash chaos and long queues at banks.
Protests against the move led to looting in parts of the country, with shops attacked and roads blocked.
Some cash machines on Thursday were still issuing the old 100-bolivar notes, hours before they expired.
President Nicolas Maduro said new higher-denomination bills would be fully distributed in January.
He has closed the borders with Brazil and Colombia until Sunday to stop “mafias” hoarding the currency abroad.

And the word “socialism” appears to be MIA in the BBC article. Gee that’s weird.
Maduro is breaking new ground in socialism. He’s not only run out of everyone else’s money; he seems to have run out of his own!
No doubt Wynne, Notley and Trudeau would love to be able to follow him.
“He has closed the borders”
Aaaaaaand then they kill you.
Here’s a hint Senor Maduro: mafias only hoard things that go up in value, not down.
Hoarding bills with a real market value of 2 cents? Not so much.
Coming/here?.. to an Ottawa near you!.. Maduro/Tardeau.. Brothers from the same mother..
But he still has a ‘social’ license.
Are the people in Venezuela truly DUMB enough to believe this jibberish from their government ? Are the people so poorly educated, that they cannot think this through ? Are they going to persist in believing that the USA, or Brazil, or any other “outsider” is responsible for the collapse of their (formerly) OIL RICH nation ? What’s the average IQ of Venezuelans ?
“What’s the average IQ of Venezuelans?”
Half of them are European so it shouldn’t be too bad. Maybe the res boys are in charge.
An example of the chaos that’s arrived in Venezuela… note to some, in some areas, the shop keepers have taken to counting the low level paper money (I suppose they’re all low denominations now?) by weight as it’s not worth the bother to actually count that pile. It’s an old story wherever hyperinflation takes place, with more truth to it than the spendthrifts in Ottawa for example, want to discuss.

and one more thing, nobody seriously works in Venezuela during the Christmas to New Year’s Day or Holy Week (Easter) … so those looted shops, will not be replaced by anything until the next month at the earliest.
He would be wise to recall the fate of Nicolae Ceausescu.
