Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

"Smalldeadanimals doesn't speak for the people of Saskatchewan" - Former Sask Premier Lorne Calvert
"I got so much traffic after your post my web host asked me to buy a larger traffic allowance." - Dr.Ross McKitrick
Holy hell, woman. When you send someone traffic, you send someone TRAFFIC.My hosting provider thought I was being DDoSed. - Sean McCormick
"The New York Times link to me yesterday [...] generated one-fifth of the traffic I normally get from a link from Small Dead Animals." - Kathy Shaidle
"You may be a nasty right winger, but you're not nasty all the time!" - Warren Kinsella
"Go back to collecting your welfare livelihood." - Michael E. Zilkowsky
They have a Trigger Warning on the right panel. Sad that anyone has to provide a “warning” that someone’s preconceived notions could be challenged and they might need to think for themselves.
Conrad Black: Jordan Peterson speaks for those of us that refuse to follow the ‘great liberal death wish’
http://news.nationalpost.com/full-comment/conrad-black-jordan-peterson-is-inflexible-and-righteous-dont-treat-him-as-being-guilty-of-a-hate-crime
Lies on All Levels not just gender confusion.
Teach ‘em Green, Raise ‘em Stupid
According to the latest international comparison, Australian kids are falling further behind, despite ever-larger sums of taxpayer cash being poured into the Chalk-Industrial Complex. One reason we’re raising another generation of dolts: propaganda passed off as wisdom.
http://quadrant.org.au/opinion/doomed-planet/2016/12/teach-em-green-raise-em-stupid/
He mentions that the Gulag Archipelago profoundly interested him.
My High School History teacher gave it to me to read as well.
Changed my view on the world.
As he says, socialism, IE Germany, China, USSR, Cuba, is functioning exactly the way it is meant.
I’d go back to university if it meant I could sit in on Professor Jordan’s lectures and have his reading assigned. U of T intends to drum him out, keeping dross, shucking gold. No “um”s in this man intellect.
Yeah, for example compare how poor native people were treated by Cuban socialism vs Canadian socialism.
It’s excellent.
More than 2 years ago, I downloaded and read a book about the current state of Australian universities. All one had to do was change a few names and dates and it could have easily described the Canadian post-secondary educational system.
an excellent article. one point that must be stressed, he used the word “refuse” and that is as simple and basic as it can get. refuse to fall in line with bullshit and made up words. tell the government and anyone whop tries to force c16 that we will not comply.
The way to talk to people who will jail you for not using their “preferred pronouns” is to not talk to them at all.
Great article, pass it on!
We have let the leftist creep grow and flourish from kindergarten to the halls of higher learning.
Pierre Trudeau’s charter coupled with multiculturalism has allowed leftism to infest every facet of our existence. It would take a revolution to clean up the mess. Where would we find interest when the Charter is the bible? We have people flocking here because of the Charter dictates which allows them to dictate to us through the unelected body of Supreme court Judges handing down decisions according to their interpretations of the document from hell.
What’s to say but SNAFU.
Thanks for this Kate.
And the left wonders why Trump won.
If a candidate here were to stand up and say we’re not closing coal plants, we’re not taxing people for driving their cars, we’re not wasting taxpayers dollars on unreliable energy sources, we’re not sending one more nickel of equalization until all the pipelines are built, and subsidized universities are going to follow a standard of free speech that as a foundational principle of out democracy.
I’d vote for that one.
Exactly and well said.
It’s long and it’s excellent is right.
Orlando Figes, professor of history, Birkbeck College, University of London, wrote “The Whisperers: Private Life in Stalin’s Russia”. The book follows over six hundred families after the collapse of the Soviet Union. What he talks about in the book mirrors what Professor Dr. Jordan Peterson talks about in this interview and in his videos.
Sadly though, I do not think this is reversible. We have gone too far down this road. Even our Conservative Party leadership has bought into into the cultural Marxism. Go through the link listed of how MPs voted that the article author provides. My own MP voted against, as did some other Saskatchewan MPs. Ambrose voted for it.
Btw, I have older relatives in Germany, who grew up and lived in the Soviet Union, and still are afraid to talk. One never knows who is listening.
As Liz J says, the leftist creep has taken fifty years, and here we are.
The way to talk to people who will jail you for not using their “preferred pronouns” is to not talk to them at all.
minuteman, BINGO.
It’s also the way to deal with jib-jabbed females who cover their faces. If they wish to hide, then oblige them (and their owners) by pretending they’re invisible.
What a good read!
I like that he mentioned our yellow-bellied Conservatives, who – by their silence on free speech issues – are as complicit as the Liberals and NDP when it coms to the erosion of our fundamental freedoms by the statists.
It’s a pity that there won’t be the refusal to submit in this Country that he would like to see. 99% of Canadians just don’t have that in them.
Well, Peterson just slayed a whole herd of sacred cows, didn’t he? At the start of the article my first thought was that this guy will be fired by Christmas. Now I’m not so sure. Perhaps by being so public and so vocal about his opposition it becomes more difficult to fire him. Who/what will university administrators be more scared of?
Universities as a source of Enlightenment is over, IMO. At best, think of it as a salvage operation. Leave the SJWs courses, save the STEMs. The in between, like economists? Don’t take any chances, leave them behind. STEMS could easily be blended into trades and tech post secondary institutions. Frankly, they’d be better prepared for productive work because they’d be exposed to real life, real people and real situations sooner. Learning the psychology of how to manage people and conflict resolution is more valuable than learning about the patriarchy and gender as a social construct.
Besides tradespeople are funnier and better company because the aren’t nearly as neurotic. The also aren’t as easily pushed around or bullied. You want to hear unfettered free speech and unguarded, unrepressed combativeness then go to a shop floor or a trade union meeting. In my experience you’ll hear everything from far left fiery red socialism to true blue conservative patriotism. And populism, lots of populism. Perhaps because they’ve been ignored, abandoned or insulted by all mainstream parties except when needed as political props.
Jamie;
The CPC complicity pretty much started when the party was first elected.
Thank you Kate. Thoughtful, logical and poignant. Perpetual group victimhood has been argued much like court cases with little or no rebuke in the media. The content given in Dr. Jordan’s interview is long overdue as important counterpoints to bring back balance to the opposing arguments. Biology matters and men have been crapped on and sacrificed in their lives for life and family every bit as much as women.
The way to talk to people who will jail you for not using their “preferred pronouns” is to not talk to them at all.
I understand (and feel!) the sentiment, but it’s wrong.
That IS the problem. Not being able to talk to people who need to be talked to, good and hard.
We have to expunge all “hate speech” laws, all language codes, and talk plainly to people who are offended over and over again until they become immunized, buttressed by a robust legal infrastructure that makes it impossible for peoples’ careers and lives to be destroyed for expressing outlier views.
That interview was beyond excellent. It was EXHILARATING
Dwayne, don’t worry, the trigger warning is sarcastic!
Ah, yes. The Halls of Higher Learning.
Dr. Jordan Peterson should start a new University. One with true teaching and not indoctrination.
I started university in 1970, in engineering.
Even then education was”the only faculty you could flunk INTO”!!
If you liked The Gulag Archipelago, you should give Robert Loh’s Escape From Red China a read. It describes the horrors of life in China during the Cultural Revolution from the eyes of a party insider.
The guy is bang on in all respects. He will likely lose his job but by speaking on YouTube, away from PC institutional corruption, more people will be enlightened. Rand said that if you want to know what is wrong with society, look at what is taught at Universities and that was in the early seventies when the “flowers” of PC were mere seeds. He is absolutely correct about our divided culture without debate leading to civil war and or totalitarianism.
I happened to engage two young ladies in conversation a few months ago. One had a degree from a Canadian university and the other from a European university. The Canadian graduate was trying to explain something she had learned in her education and she had it completely screwed up. Those of us listening to her were stifling smiles as we listened to her prattle on. The European girl awed us all with her depth of knowledge and understanding shifting effortlessly between science, math, linguistics and philosphy. I would love to think this was a one off situation but I have found that experience to be the norm and not the exception. Our education industry is sorely lacking.
“The way to talk to people who will jail you for not using their “preferred pronouns” is to not talk to them at all.”
I suggest you talk to them without using their preferred fake pronouns, but when you don’t want to bother with offending them by using the appropriate real pronuns, annoy them by constantly replacing pronouns with their name. That doesn’t give them an excuse to make their tiresome speeches.
I started my engineering studies a bit later than you. I completed my freshman year at a college that had a university transfer program, so our class small enough that I got to know everyone.
Most of us transferred to the same university the next year. One of us dropped out of engineering partway through and switched into–you guessed it!–education.
Arts, at the time, was also a faculty of last resort.
Mind you, not everyone who went into education did so because they dropped out of a different field of study. My physics teacher in Grades 11 and 12 had a master’s degree in the field, so he was teaching a subject for which he was clearly qualified.
Another good tactic is to insist they address you with the pronoun “m’lord” lest you drag their sorry ass before a HR tribunal.
Goose meet gander.
Thankyou fine post.
Edumacation.
One of the Podesta Emails highlighted the problem for the “control the masses” mob.
Their programme to produce an uneducated compliant populace, via government control of mass education, is working very well on the “uneducated” not so great on the compliant.
Human nature has changed very little, yet these frightened, bedwetting control freaks all seek to deny our nature, impose their fantasy upon all they fear and always crash and burn as human nature obstructs their dreams.
Ugly narrow little dreamers that they be.
You must fit into the category I have chosen for you!
Respect My authority.
Silence! I kill you.
And they cannot comprehend why their magnificence is not seen by those they annoy.
Exile is an option we do not use often enough.
Those amongst us who demand their idiocy shall rule, really need to be given the freedom to practice what they preach, I can’t wait to see the Carbon Free, hydrocrarbon free, gender free paradise.
Let us assist its creation..On Coates Island Nunavut.
Hell I will even donate to the 24hr survaillence system.
Best reality TV ever, next to or combined with “Hug a Polar Bear” TV.
Exactly, I ignore ALL the offensive weirdos. Don’t ever respond to them in any way and we can’t be committing a ‘hate crime’. If one of them persists in pestering me, then I respond with an apparent speech impediment that makes me unintelligible, while smiling and appearing to be helpful. They always go away and leave me alone.
It’s good to see more and more people coming to the conclusions described in the article about the motives of the left and their tactics. People have seen through their various “concerns” and know it’s all about revenge and destroying the West.
It is time to give up on the various “Conservative” parties who want our votes, but willingly support these crusades against our society.
Philosophically I agree with you, but practically we are fighting a rear guard action in war we are not going to win any time soon.
Interview with Jordan Peterson on the Joe Rogan podcast:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04wyGK6k6HE
Put on a couple of pots of coffee. Rogan’s interviews last three hours.
“Well, Peterson just slayed a whole herd of sacred cows, didn’t he? At the start of the article my first thought was that this guy will be fired by Christmas. Now I’m not so sure. Perhaps by being so public and so vocal about his opposition it becomes more difficult to fire him. Who/what will university administrators be more scared of?”
What will the university be afraid of? Simple, the Ontario Human Rights Comission. When they come looking for Dr. Peterson, instead of backing him, they will toss him to the kangaroos and expect him to fend for himself. Remember the (O)HRC process is punishment in and of itself. Even if he wins.
If I didn’t find that link to the interview in this comment section I was going to post it myself. Thanks for doing so. Well worth the time to watch the whole interview. I hope Kate posts it as a separate link so it can reach an even broader audience.
Lately I’ve been binge-watching Rogan. That guy is turning into a first-class interviewer. And with the format he’s chosen, he can get really in depth.
“I respond with an apparent speech impediment that makes me unintelligible, while smiling and appearing to be helpful”
I’m sure your smile is as incandescent as your wit. But enough about you.
“In a Time of Universal Deceit — Telling the Truth Is a Revolutionary Act”
~George Orwell
Peterson is a Hero because he tells plain truth and explains it in terms that people know, but are too cowed to admit even to themselves.
If these are our heroes today, we are truly hooped.
Used to be that a Hero was a man of action. A man around whom a call and a plan of action coalesced and was made to come about.
Peterson may yet be that man. But it is too early to tell if he will be a martyr around whose memory people may rally, or a leader that people will follow and commit actions today that will change tomorrow.
That said: Who are these students who make such demands?
They paid their monies to come to Universities and Colleges to learn.
By what meter do they imagine that they can overthrow reality or the current status quo simply because they paid a sum to be the learners.
If they were the teachers rather than students, then they would be the ones receiving remuneration rather than paying tuition.
As an English major and teacher — I would really appreciate you not relegating the Humanities to the SJW category and fought back. This is indeed for selfish reasons, but also unselfish ones: on one hand, it would truly be nice if I could actually teach a class about actual literature, just once more before I die (without having to sneak material in like some illicit black market operation) and for the unselfish reason, because STEM classes are great, but what is a technician without some knowledge of why we do the things we do and what are the potential consequences, without a knowledge and appreciation of beauty? The ability to think critically and ethically within a greater cultural context, the ability to know that there is some truth in true beauty saves us from being mere technics.
Quite a bit is lost (as should be obvious because to a large extent it has been lost) from the debasement of the humanities — there is no reading/discussion of Gulag Archipelago (or even the lovely measured lines of Austen, the psychological insights of Shakespeare), no thematic evaluation of Night Watch or Mona Lisa, no critical analysis of the Bach Concertos, no historical perspective of Enlightenment philosophies and, yes, even STEM innovations. Learning is an interconnected thing.
You cannot have a true appreciation of one without the other — for example, when I teaching rhetoric, I always have to explain the Golden Mean and tonal theories; when I teach applied grammar (or grammar at all) I have to bring in maths; and the scientific method/exercises in logic-critical thinking must be used in research paper writing; it’s applicable. Or you just produce what you see coming out of universities today.
It used to be that people, even specialists, were somewhat well versed in both — even a factory worker of the ’50s often had a better grasp than what we see coming out of doctoral programs now…perhaps it’s old fashioned, but I do think we have lost something very valuable by letting this go the way of the dodo.
