Courtesy of Your Gov’t -197 Billion Down the Rathole

The latest report on Federal Government spending is damning. Programs not designed for the people who need them – no measurement – cost benefit analysis is impossible. In other words the same problems with waste and inefficiency that have blown billions in tax dollars for decades. The question is – who cares?

  1. Big rally in Edmonton right now against the Notley regime & its imposition of a futile carbon tax on hard hit Albertans. Since it was not a left type “protest” I bet all my pittance fortune that there were no violence reported. Like adults. Like deplorables.
    Go Alberta!!!!!

  2. Stupid people get the governments they deserve. I’ve been self-employed for most of my working life and I’ve always given the government as little as possible of the fruits of my labour; about 1/10th of what an ’employee’ is forced to give.
“No government is better than our government”

  3. I wish the money was going into ‘ratholes’ – that would mean the liberals were spending money on the petroleum industry.

  4. If I have it right, the millennials overwhelmingly supported the hair job so they can pay this off over their entire lifetime. Enjoy the ride.

  5. Exactly… They’ve burdened their children and grandchildren with debt that will never be repaid. Fúck Em, I won’t be here to worry about it.

  6. All government has ever done is failure. The one lesson we all know from history tho; no one ever learns from history.

  7. Have fulminated against such waste for years. But any time a political party tries to focus on government waste, it is accused of being against the poor, wanting to cut basic services, etc., etc., and the MSM enthusiastically pitch in without ever bothering to ask if there is waste.

  8. Why The End of Canada is Inevitable
the Canadian government forces dependence upon the province and people of Quebec to keep them in Canada against their will.
How do the Canadians pay for such an arrangement?
For the first decade or so, the excess revenues of the Ontario manufacturing sector covered much of the bill. Ontario manufacturing was a major economic driver of the entire Canadian economy. Throughout the 1990’s and 2000’s, it was mainly the Ontarians who paid for Quebec’s inclusion into Canada.
Today, Ontario is a recipient of transfer payments, not a payer.
Years of leftist governments have made Ontario’s formerly proud manufacturing industry non-competitive. If not for NAFTA and Western Canada, Ontario manufacturing would not exist.
Leftist “green” energy initiatives have made Ontario have some of the highest electricity rates in the country. The consequences of which are two fold.
First, it wrecks havoc on the population by increasing the cost of living and forcing those who cannot afford it to move away. Second, it greatly reduces the competitiveness of their economy as electricity is one of the most important inputs to manufacturing.
The mass exodus of Ontarians is one of the main reasons Alberta has an NDP government. The destruction of Saskatchewan at the hands of the Saskatchewan NDP and the unsustainable real estate market of Vancouver (a by-product of the leftist, Canadian immigration policy) are two others.
Over the past two decades, leftist governments throughout Canada but especially Ontario have destroyed their economies.

With Ontario’s already ridiculously expensive electricity and bloated labour costs due to a work force that mostly moved to Alberta, American manufacturing will drive Ontario manufacturing out of business.

Alberta oil and Ontario manufacturing may have been enough to keep Canada together the past 20 years. What will keep it together for the next 20 years?
Without Ontario manufacturing, the billions of dollars needed to deceive the common people of Quebec into believing they are Canadian are just not there. Even Alberta oil cannot cover the entire costs.
Every Canadian industry under the sun from Manitoba agriculture, to Saskatchewan mining, to British Columbia softwood will become targets of the Federal government.
    The inevitable outcomes are clear.
Either Canada takes all of the wealth of the rest of the country to maintain the charade of Quebecois inclusion or Canada forces Quebec into austerity and incites traditional Quebecois separatism that has never truly left.
The only way this ends is with the end of Canada.

  9. If you wish to a) raise your blood pressure and level of rage, OR b) make yourself even more depressed at the crap that the federal government pulls, check out the Public Accounts of Canada, March 31, 2016, Volume 3, Section 6.

This documents all the money which the fed *gives* away, without expectation of consideration. *GIVES AWAY*
The listing is not totalled but it is roughly $120 Billion. Large amounts of that are statutorily prescribed payments which we don’t think of as ‘gifts’: pension payments, equalization payments, health programs.
But there is about $20 Billion which is effectively slush fund: “grants” for “research” etc etc. to recipients who do not need it. Lots of viable entities got money.
Melanchton Wolfe Wind LP received $4.5M for ‘Wind Power Production’. Melancthon Wolfe is an indirect subsidiary of Trans-Alta which guaranteed a $422M bond issue to support the LP’s efforts in building wind farms…
There is easily $20Billion of slush which could be sliced out of this. I doubt most MP’s have the slightest idea about what goes on here.
    Environment and Climate Change $135M.
Note again: this is what they *give* away, not the Department’s running budget.
    Western Economic Diversification $116M
Canadian Northern Economic Development $32M, and
Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec: $218.5M
All of this is government choosing “winners” or choosing to “support” entities which should stand on their own. Canadian Heritage gives out $180M spread out among many sport entities: skiing, judo, sailing, lacrosse etc. And I am sure that most of these entities spend inordinate amounts of time lobbying to receive these funds. “Regulatory capture” is inevitable. There are whole divisions dedicated to the business of doling out money to “worthy” recipients.

  10. True, and I didn’t attend (Calgarian, now) because my daughter’s Brownie troop had a function.
There’s a basic level of acceptance on my part. Governments will come and go, but my daughter is forever (in my thoughts/heart).
Kate, the capchas is starting to creep me out. “Samaritans Crown” Arguably closely related to the topic at hand.

  11. Some very good points.
I can agree that Canada will not likely survive an inevitable global financial crisis which will happen within 10 years. Easy to say I know.
Progressive versus conservative thought does not have geographic barriers inside Canada. Break the country into smaller areas does not solve the problem. Progressivism has many hardcore philosophical players who exert enormous influence. However I would suggest that the vast majority of adherents are people who see power and financial gain. There is little moral thought into their direction in life. Many do not dwell on such abstract thoughts. They are a product of a society that teaches moral equivalency and subjective thought.
One has to ask what world event will change this? IMHO it will be a fiscal crisis which will, if we are lucky, re-establish a conservative mindset. This is a process with huge risk as the definition of ‘conservative mindset’ is up for proper definition. This process could be hijacked at any time.

  12. Ain’t Kleptocracy grand?
Does anyone know of a historic precedent, where a kleptocracy has been peacefully reformed?
Or even where a parasitic infestation has petered out without massive destruction of the host?
    Canada is FUBAR.
Official parasites equal the number of productive persons.
    Actual theft rate exceeds 50%.
And our clueless “leaders” all go along to get along.
We get to chose. Chose between Parasite #1 or Parasite#2,
Each promising to keep the ranks of fools and bandits fully funded, impose ever more government help upon the ever shrinking number of productive individuals.
Chose between open contempt and a more subtle distaste for the unwashed fools who fund the charade.
And the ever increasing lawlessness of those who hold power.
The exposure of the big lie machine, in recent collapse of the MSM’s hold on the narrative, may signal the coming collapse of the host.
Hard to continue theft by deception, when the deception is exposed,
But I have underestimated the stupidity of us herdbeasts before.
    Bhaaa.
