Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Green death cult scores again.
Goal scored by Wynne, assists to Trudeau and CBC.
Chickens coming home to roost. Thank McGuinty and Wynne.
First 2000 jobs gone at Bombardier, now this, and next, the auto industry as they’re moving to Mexico in droves.
Time to ramp up those fabled “green jobs”, you progressive economic geniuses.
I wish you people would quit ragging on her hunky Prime Minister!! He will save the economy, he is going to put in a stimulus and it worked VERY good for Obama!
So let me see if I’ve got this right, Abitibi Consolidated is leaving Ontario because of high electricity costs but the Federal government is going to subsidize the purchase of electrical vehicles to help people commute to jobs that no longer exist. Bag of hammers meet bag of hockey pucks.
I looked at the company’s annual report back when it was known as AbitibiBowater a few years ago. It was in hock over its ears and it didn’t have a nice balance sheet.
I didn’t pay much attention to what was responsible for that debt, but mergers, acquisitions, and amalgamations often mean that corporations have to borrow heavily in order to finance the transaction. They do so hoping that they can pay off that debt from future savings or profits that are projected.
While high energy costs didn’t help, the firm’s financial situation might likely be the real reason for the plant’s closure. It has to cull the herd, so to speak, and its weakest performing assets will be the first ones to go.
Don’t kid yourself this is just the first of many companies saying aurevoir Ontariowe.
Um…. Abitibi-Consolidated hasn’t existed for a number of years. It became AbitibiBowater in 2007 then Resolute Forest Products in 2009. I think the “Abitibi-Consolidated” mill in Kenora closed in 2005.
True Ken, thank McGuinty and Wynne. But how about a standing ovation for the 62 – 66 percent of the electorate that has voted for the Liberals and NDP since 2003.
Oh, and honourable mention surely has to go to Ontario’s PC Party which, by utter incompetence and sheer cowardice, has done so much to contribute to this F****** Mess.
reap it!
frost on the pumpkins today and the liberals are still trying to kill us in our own homes, time for tar and feathers and pitchforks.
Problem is, the innocent reap the whirlwind sown by the guilty.
Ontario is now a have-not province. It took a while, the voters wanted it that way, they kept electing the right people to do it. They fell for promises which turned into lies and then repeatedly elected the same liars to majority government.
Heh,
Just an insignificant collateral damage not worth a mention.
To the self enriching international socialists, it amounts to exactly 0.
Nothing to worry about. March forward for the shining future.
Forward to international socialist future.
You don’t understand, its for the cold shiny future. THEY know, you don’t.
The hard fact is, that it is true of LIV’s.
Since the LIV’s don’t, everything is cool and with the program.
The reason Wynne and her acolytes will remain unconcerned with this is that manual, industrial jobs are not really worth while in their universe. Real jobs include the public sector, education, health care, social services, media and legal services. In short any service jobs, or quasi government positions are respectable in their post-industrial world.
The logical end game for this model is that everyone eventually would work for the public sector. As to who would provide the real goods or services to pay these salaries… well the government would just borrow or print the money. This model was given a good tryout in the 20th century, with decisive results wherever implemented, still people like Wynne keep on trying.
I believe that a number of other industries have also recently left Ontario. Kellogg (cereals), Heinz, and GM Diesel in London come to mind. I can’t remember the rest.
B is right that possibly the company was in trouble financially. If a company is against the wall financially and a major expense like hydro is bound to increase drastically in the future, then this major expense would be a major factor in the decision to close or move.
Jamie, bang on on all counts. The PC Party in Ontario is a bunch of pantywaists at the moment, but a major factor, as Liz J says, is the gullibility of the city voters to the lies of the Liberals and NDP and to the city voters wish for a free lunch that is promised by the liars. So now people have to decide whether to eat and sit in the dark or have light and starve.
The Toronto Sun had an article this morning that talks about the hydro cost pain.
From the article, “We do the laundry at night. We follow all the rules the government wants us to follow. It’s hard to put food on the table and then we get these report cards. I don’t know what else they expect from us. Do they expect us to live in the dark?”
http://www.torontosun.com/2016/10/22/hydro-report-cards-leave-consumers-peeved
This is all part of Maurice Strong’s plan to de-industrialize the west.
It is past time for people to bring out the tar and feathers and a rail to ride these slime out on.
Well thats too bad, but there are consequences for choosing to be green and stupid. In Wynnes case she was just born stupid but the voters of Ontario choose stupid. Hardly surprising that an idiot of this calibre would be Premier in a Province that thinks rick Mercer is funny and Rush is a great band.

Oops, sorry for posting twice. The first said “timed out”.
Karl Marx loves lesbian, man-hating, power-starved politicians.
This reminds me of the old Chicago tune “Only the Beginning” …. Wynne regime has destroyed what was left of Ontario. She and Selfie Trudeau will force the rest of Canada or should I say Western Canada to subsidize this utter stupidity and evil.
I think by now you can see where globalist-greenshift governments are taking you. The strategy was all mapped out and made public in the 70s – Maurice Strong let it slip in a weak moment in a candid interview.
The “shift” in globalist green shift is the exportation of North American prosperity off shore to undeveloped nations and the spread of universl austerity through global migration of labor and tax base.
The Liberals in Ottawa and Toronto are globalists – they are installing the final stage of the agenda at an accelerated pace – they have litterall shut down Canada’s wealth engines, thus impoverishing the old stock Canadian electorate and are now poised to replace that old stock electorate (who will toss them out for their treason) with an imported electorate which will essentially create a single party state.
Globalism is and always was a plan by the 1% to spread 3rd world politics and economics globally – Wynne and Trudeau are charter members of the globalist regime
My sister explained it to me… nobody wants to take leadership in Ontario on a clean-up-the-mess platform, the mess is so bad, irredeemable, anybody trying to correct the Venezuelan course is going to be the meanest worst most-hated monster since… since… Mike Harris, in fact it probably can’t be done without going through a catastrophic event, so buckle up, we need a famine.
I think cdncheez (5:09 am) is right on the Kenora Mill. The only internet references I can find on this closure say it happened in 2005 and was tied to both high energy prices and other economic challenges for the pulp and paper industry.
Still there is no doubt that the McGuinty-Wynne assault on affordable electricity is forcing businesses out of the province and forcing large numbers of residential consumers into “energy poverty”.

bartinsky at 10:35 am: ” In Wynne’s case she was just born stupid…”
Definitely possible, but I could also make a case for the “progressive” Ontario education system that crammed her little head full of stupid ideas and then amplified them over the years she was in politics. Of course, there is no reason it can’t be both.
No a famine won’t do the job but a prolonged cold snap as predicted by Russian scientists this past week will certainly go a long way in rectifying the problems that the Liberals and NDPee-ers have immersed this country in. Just think of a prolonged cold snap this winter similar to the one in Edmonton years ago where the mercury never climbed above, I think it was -20 correct me if I’m wrong, and equate that to Toronto, Montreal, or Vancouver. Look at all the problems it would solve. Seniors on pension wouldn’t be able to eat and heat, so they’d starve or freeze. This would solve the high real-estate costs in the urban centers, there’d be a glut of houses on the market. With all the retired baby-boomers dying off quickly it would not only reduce the high costs of health care but it would reduce the wait times for the survivors. This quick reduction in population would also bring about an easement in the strain on our infrastructure, not to mention a vast reduction in taxes. So you see its a win-win situation all around. The best part of it all would be if some fast thinking Liberal millenial could cobble together a power generation plant to a crematorium and use the now deceased baby-boomers as a renewable source of energy to reduce the high costs of electricity./sarc/
Having grown up not far form Kenora, and being interested in post-industrial economics, I can advise that (to the best of my knowledge) the only remaining forest product mill is the Kenora TimberStrand Plant, owned by Weyerhaeuser Corp.(approx. 200 workers).

WRONG!
Whatever the temperature you read on your outdoor thermometer … it will be declared inaccurate and in need of “smoothing” by the MET office and NOAA. Regardless … next year is preordained to be the “hottest year on record” as the State has learned that a lull in the climate “crisis” has hurt their narrative. And any Luddite like you … who believes the mercury of your (obviously) broken thermometer over the State approved temperatures are obvious deniers of “science”. The “science” of computer models and statistical analysis. Mercury thermometers are soooooo 17th century.
After 32 years Heinz Kraft in St Marys Ontario will be moving its entire operation to Mont Royal Quebec. Direct job loss will be 400 with another 200 jobs lost by support operations in Ontario. The price of electricity is the number one issue with number two being compliance of Ontario’s over the top provincial regulations. Why isn’t this being reported in the media???
Forgive me, how could I have been so obtuse. Of course next year will be the hottest year on record and with the rise in temperature the growing season and area of agriculture in Canada will expand. Hence there will be more food available and less need for home heating fuel in Canada, so we really have nothing to worry about. So tell me why are we in such a rush to implement a carbon tax, that is increasing the cost of everything and driving our economy into the ground and our manufacturing out of the country? Seems to me if we adapt to the warmer weather that “science” tells us is coming then again we have a win-win situation. Warmer weather, more crops, more food, less need to heat our homes, and the bonus is that we will not have to travel south for the winter holiday. Any Canadian that advocates for a carbon tax that would hinder or delay this scenario must surely be some kind of moron…. OH! wait a minute, I just forgot it’s ‘Sunny Days’. /sarc/
Ridiculous that we have to do our laundry and ironing at night, etc. Ontario has a large surplus of electricity so this peak hours high cost is completely fraudulent.
More from big government, where reality bites, but the citizens feel the pain.
“Ontario to import Quebec electricity annually under 7-year deal.”
Ontario will import enough electricity from Quebec to power a city of more than 200,000 people under a seven-year agreement signed Friday, but the provinces won’t say how much Ontario is paying Hydro Quebec.”
Premiers Kathleen Wynne and Philippe Couillard signed the deal, which will see Ontario import up to two terawatt hours of electricity from Quebec annually, allowing the province to reduce its use of natural gas to generate power.”
The agreement will also allow Ontario to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by one million tonnes a year by replacing gas-fired generation with clean power generated from Quebec’s hydro dams.”
“The reality about gas plants is that they are peaker, they often sit idle when that power is not needed,” and are turned on when there’s high demand, said Wynne. “The whole point of the gas plants is they are only used when that power is needed.” (WTF is “peaker?”)
After all that’s what wind turbines are for, except they sit idle when power is needed, and work when power is not needed, so it can be exported (to Quebec?) for 1/10th of its actual cost to taxpayes. On my report card the ON government gets an incomplete, with an F-minus for work turned in so far.
As one teacher said: “I’m not allowed to give a mark lower than zero.”

Let those Liberal retards suffer. Trudeau is a Liberal mental freak
Northern Ontario has voted ndp or liberal for decades…..
What product did the Kenora mill produce? Newprint?
A billion here a billion there, I wonder how much the conned consumer is actually going to end up paying per KW/h?
The parasites are immune to commonsense and logic.
Most are 4th or 5th generation “public servants”, they have no conception of productivity nor contact with the producers who pay the bills.
The joke is we taxpayers do not need our “helpful” government extortionists.
In fact thanks to their blatant breach of contract we have learnt very well how to live without them, the only businesses left “succeeding” within our kleptocracy are mostly government enforced monopolies, crony capitalists of the canadian order.
So businesses leaving the promised land of this socialist paradise is seen as a good thing by the Wynners.
Because of the very nature of resource industries, many companies built and produced their own power back in the day. Of course Ontario Hydro came along and made it cheaper to buy from them so the power generation was either taken over by Hydro of shut down. Now the only game in town is sticking it to these companies to the point that moving or shutting down is the only alternative.
The green initiative has been a disaster from the get go and the Ontario consumer is the one paying for it. That is those who still have a job.
Somebody’s blowing smoke here. Abitibi-Consolidated folded in 2007, became Abitibi-Bowater and eventually became Resolute Forest Products. http://www.resolutefp.com Resolute Forest Products is trading at 6.17 on the TSX. I think we can all agree that Ontario’s policies are utterly disastrous but we really should try to get our facts straight.
yop, I would be more than happy to do it but to get elected I would have to lie just like the liberals and then stick it to every bureaucrat in the province.
Now all the cops, gubment union grunts and Ministry-of parasites in the richest generation can buy cottages at fire sale rates in Kenora with their guaranteed cheques.
Once they turn the boilers off they’ll rust through and nobody is ever starting them up again.
