Friends Don’t Let Friends Do Feminism

Joy Pullmann on when feminist feelings collide with science:

Throughout her dissertation, [doctoral candidate, Laura] Parson asserts that women and minorities are uniquely challenged by the idea that science can provide objective information about the natural world. This is an unfair assumption, she says, because the concept of objectivity is too hard for women and minorities to understand. “Notions of absolute truth and a single reality” are “masculine,” she says, referring to poststructuralist feminist theory… Rather than rejecting this insulting view of women and minorities’ intellectual capacities, Parson uses it as a pretext to advocate that science classes abandon the scientific method itself… and all other “male” forms of oppression, such as “weed-out courses, courses that grade on a curve, a competitive environment, reliance on lecture as a teaching method, an individualistic culture, and comprehensive exams.”

One of these.

  1. It seems her thesis essentially consists of condescendingly insulting women and minorities who have obtained their STEM degrees the old-fashioned way. Naturally, her solution is to reduce their academic achievements to the point that they are equally worthless as her own. Well played.

  2. It’s their next target for assault. These Maolings will not stop until they do not have their aiders and abettors in power

  3. In my reality anvils make lousy parachutes. But maybe we should fly Laura Parson up in an airplane and give her the opportunity to construct her own reality with one.

  4. Nice one! LoL. I was just going to suggest we have one of her (sher? Xer? Whatever these twits currently use) design and build a heavier-than-air craft for the aerodynamics course. There’s only one rule. You have to fly in it…

  5. Lysenko-ism is apparently alive and well in our universities. No wonder, it is being fostered by liberal governments everywhere. Look at the fake science of AGW masquerading as climate change.

  6. In an age which permits us to be any gender we want, feminism becomes entirely moot.
As always, “progressives” bury themselves with the inherent contradictions of their own muddled ideology.

  7. One of the comments referred to this gem:

I’m a professional engineer. I have graduate degrees in two engineering disciplines, including a Ph. D. I’m a member of Mensa. I speak German and English fluently, am somewhat familiar with French, and I’m a qualified Morse code operator.
However, for the life of me, I have absolutely no idea what the publication is about or what the author was saying. Calling it incomprehensible gibberish is to give it a compliment it doesn’t deserve.
And that’s what’s coming out of our universities…..

  8. Perhaps we should simply mail women their post secondary or post graduate degrees on their tenth birthdays so they can live a more mellow feminine life from the get-go …. until Abdul and Ahmed come to town and change things up a bit for them.
It’s coming … with the sops at the Canadian helm, we will become Brussels within the next few years. If Clinton is elected in the USA it may happen a lot faster … Malcontent Feminist Women …. Listen up … Unbeknown to you, because of your uber nativity, Hillary Clinton and Justin Trudope are your worst enemies, but in your case, I don’t care … it’s real women I am worried about. They deserve better.

  9. Flyers advertising an upcoming speech at Cal State LA by Christina Hoff Sommers — a talk titled “Where Feminism Went Wrong” — were ripped down by what appears to be a female student who called the posters offensive, according to a video of the incident.
… by what appears to be a female …
Checking out the video, it appears as though the author was appropriately hesitant in his description, as the possible female appeared to be in some form of transition to one of the hundred (or so) alternate gender realities fabricated by today’s LGBTQ QQ doo dah’s

  10. Tell me she isn’t going to teach in a university after receiving her “PhD”.

  11. Considering that she’s getting it in education, it’s either that or educational administration. I shudder to think that she might end up working in curriculum development.

  12. I suppose you’re not supposed to reduce people to enemies but too bad. People like this are enemies of our way of life. All of this SJW type crap should be absolutely destroyed with an iron fist. Oh and you know who else are enemies? All the so called conservatives and Christians that have allowed this garbage to build up all these years. The radical lefts social agenda has been HELPED along by people on the right and weak sissy christians. Also, you know what a dictator is? A dictator is just a normal person that dares to stop the left and it’s enablers in their tracks. And I mean a full stop.

  13. E=mc squared. What do you think the “m” stands for? Mass? Oh the false patriarchy.
Then again Laura Parson plies for easy living via taxpayers spilling this bilge, which could also mean she is actually allowed near any undergraduates.

  14. According to her thinking, there are no absolutes, either. I guess, then, that the speed of light in a vacuum is no longer fixed, 0 degrees Kelvin is oppression by the patriarchy, and there’s no such thing as a universal gravitational constant.
Would she consider the term spaghettification (which is what happens to objects that pass too closely to black holes) cultural appropriation?

  15. Obviously lives in a large city. People like her die when they go outside their cacoon into the objective reality of the countryside. Every civilization that has been successful has passed on knowledge acquired by previous generations to the newest. It’s a lot faster than expecting people to figure out everything for themselves. Science is the best approximation to objective reality that exists at a particular point in time. Only in mathematics can one speak of absolute truths and that is only when one starts with a clearly defined set of postulates. Nevertheless, one doesn’t need to make relativistic corrections when one predicts the outcome of a bullet shot from short range at the head of a clueless moron constructing their own reality ignoring the work of dead white men who did masculine anti-feminist studies in ballistics.
That such a moron could even be in a Phd program tells me everything I need to know about the decline of universities.

  16. the concept of objectivity is too hard for women and minorities to understand
What, are they all morons or something? Why are we trying to press gang more of them into the boardroom?
“Notions of absolute truth and a single reality” are “masculine,” she says, referring to poststructuralist feminist theory
There is only one reality, the one we live in. Any other notion is rubbish. Therefore, “poststructuralist feminist theory” is “rubbish”.

  17. “According to her thinking, there are no absolutes, either.”
Exepting the absolute that there are no absolutes.
I used to have these silliy arguments in college in the early 70’s and when I fired back with the above they *always* shut up and sat in stunned silence.
And I just gave them my best shit-eating grin.
    Idiots.
