The ‘Modernizing Animal Protections Act” was introduced last week by Liberal MP Nathaniel Erskine-Smith of Toronto. It is being promoted as legislation to ban of the importation of shark fins and outlaw the practice of shark finning in Canadian waters. But that is only the tip of the fin.
An activist coalition of Canadian and U.S. animal rights organizations with a decades-long history of sustained attacks on anglers and farmers quickly supported the private member’s bill. Led by the International Fund for Animal Welfare of Yarmouth, Massachusetts and the Toronto-based Animal Alliance of Canada, these groups have once again come out in strong support of federal legislation which threatens a criminal charge, up to a $10,000 fine and five years jail time for anglers who harvest a few fish for dinner.
Provisions in Bill C-246 clearly make it possible for someone who catches a fish to face criminal prosecution for cruelty to animals. Even the act of baiting a hook with a worm would be considered an act of cruelty according to the Bill.
Or shooting a deer. Contact your MP here.

Try not to get too panicky about this. The bill is worded stupidly with lots of internal contradictions. It’s only dangerous if it doesn’t get pummeled in Committee. But by all means, write your local MP about what this Toronto Beaches twit is up to.
The animal alliance for their part is getting panicky about it on their own. Seems they think Cabinet wants to bury this thing with a stake through it.

This bill will make us all poachers. Except Indians, of course.
First thing that comes to mind is….. This:

I like the idea of hundreds of thousands of people arrested as a result of parliamentary sloth such as this typical POS legislation. People tend to remember the assholes that passed it. Give them more rope. Ending fishing , hunting and eating any meat or fish is more than an unintended consequence.
So this proposed bill would outlaw sport fishing? Why not extend it to the trawlers and seiners? No cod, halibut, sole, mackerel…but you get the idea. It’s really stunning how stupid some can be. But perhaps more stunning is that they manage to get elected. This one’s got to take the Really Still Idea of the Week award.
This Fall’s session of Parliament is going to be very interesting, with this type of lunatic legislation being tabled, and Ralph Gooddale’s revamping of CPC direction regarding firearms classification.

It’s the beginning of what many of us expected regarding guns, hunting, fishing,as the lunatic fringe has been emboldened by the election of a naive puppet who has no mind of his own,and will fall for anything.
So, will a special dispensation be given to members of the First Nations to allow them to carry on the fishing and hunting which were the basis for their survival in years past? Will they be allowed to hunt seals, bears, deer? Will they be allowed to fish for salmon as has been done for at *least* hundreds of years?
I would truly love to be an attorney (lawyer) and have the chance to represent a 10-year-old-child who is charged with a) maliciously killing a worm, and b) maliciously entrapping and killing a halibut.
One of the major problems is that there’s no accountability for the as*holes who come up with these twisted fictions of legislation. When reality sets in, and someone has to answer about why such a patently ridiculous and nonsensical “law” was enacted, those responsible have long since denied all culpability, plead innocent to any involvement in something so foolish, and distanced themselves by several light-years from their own thoughts, words, and deeds. The one single action which would do the most to bring sanity back to the world would be to require anyone who wants to make a rule or law to be held accountable for what they legislate into place.

MP contacted. That’s twice this week. Heh. So what’s next? No eggs from chickens or milk from cows? And what about the bacon from those poor piggies? The stupid burns.
I say we just provide some late term abortions on all the activists so the majority of society can live as normal.
My letter to my MP, MLA:
I’m writing today to express my concern about a provision in proposed bill C-246:
182.1 (1) Everyone commits an offence who, willfully or recklessly, (b) kills an animal or, being the owner, permits an animal to be killed, brutally or viciously, regardless of whether the animal dies immediately;
This would seem to be animal rights dogma.
I deplore any action intended to cause undue cruelty to any species, say microwaving kittens for example, but…
I believe that the harvesting of traditional food species such as fish, deer etc would be radically impacted by the above provision when the anti’s use their significant monetary resources to sue individuals or governments who participate in, or allow traditional hunting and fishing to take place.
The anti’s would likely consider even the most benign form of death “brutal or vicious” since from their urban coffee shop ivory towers and that single week at camp when they were 12, know far more than those of us who have spent our lives as far away from concrete cafes as possible.
Please excuse the hyperbole, It’s tough to think that an incredibly ignorant, more populous urban population could destroy a way of life that has existed since we dwelt in caves.
After all, even the most ardent anti-humanist (animal rights activist) will gleefully swat a mosquito, or demand the government fix their rat problem.

so what happens when an irresistable animal activist
meets an immovable social justice warrior?
“Any negative remarks regarding ‘Harambe‘ will be
seen as a direct attack to our campus’s
African-American community.”

I sent mine off to my MP, Sheila Malcolmson – but Gorram’s is much better. Doesn’t matter much anyway, since my MP is an NDP’er as well as the former chairman of the Islands Trust which will not allow anything to be built anywhere, anytime for any reason in the Vancouver Island region.
I’ll bet this is UN Agenda 2030 stuff. If yes, you bet they will come after ordinary fishermen The UN now directs government policy in Canada. I am not exaggerating.
You know what? I’m good with it. Let them arrest every fisherman, hunter, farmer, dog owner and f-ing bait salesman in the country. Seriously, just go for it boys.
Let them arrest every single weak sister in this country that keeps voting for this stuff. Let the commuters on the 401 and the QEW start dodging deer on their way to work every fricking morning.
I got a kangaroo catcher on my truck, I’m going to sit and eat popcorn while everybody gets what they damn well voted for, good and hard.
We could always simply redesignate packing plants as “assisted suicide clinics” for depressed livestock.
