Y2Kyoto: I’ll Miss The Polar Ice Caps

There is no joy in Climateville — Mighty Melting has struck out.

As the sun begins its seasonal descent in the Arctic sky and temperatures drop, the summer melt of sea ice is slowing down. In the next few weeks, the span of the Arctic Ocean covered by ice will reach its annual low.
But despite beginning the summer at unprecedentedly low levels, this year’s minimum won’t break the stunning record of 2012, experts say, thanks to cloudy weather that slowed the rate of melt.

  1. Always notice how the ones doing all this yammering about Global Warming live in big fancy homes have their own private airports and airliners their own yachs and no solar pannels and while Robert Redford opposing fossil fuels he did ads for United Airlines and Al Gores monthly electic bill was $30:000 and these Greenpeace idiots running all over the world in their ships RAINBOW WARRIOR II,ARCTIC SUNRISE, and make pests of themselves and the Polar Bears are doing just fine(Just as Mama Seal)lets see Greenpests(Greenpeace)running loose with a flock of angry skuas in hot persute

  2. Alright then … so ALL of the greatest scientific minds, and techiest of cutting edge computer mainframes couldn’t accurately foresee the impact of clouds on arctic ice melt ? Let alone “global warming”.

  3. But…but…but…
It’s the reality that’s in error.
The made up climate in the “scientist” modelling is the right one.
Sheesh people, git with the program.

  4. You warmists are all the same. They haven’t yet adjusted the measurements to conform with the modelling, silly.
Or, it’s because of something they didn’t think of, even though they were sure. Now they’re even surer. The fact they made an error proves they’re right.

  5. I was watching the Canadian Senate hearings on Dwelling Construction in the Arctic. The short building season & transportation (Irving Corp) was at issue. One of the Liberal Senators asked a serious question about why AGW would not increase the building season. The only answer was that AGW did not make a significant (measured) contribution to the Climate season.
That liberal Senator is drop dead stupid because he is a CBC listener

  6. The predominately left, low-info, misinformed voters will continue to believe what the media and their farcebook friends tell them to believe. If they even have a post secondary education it’s likely in some lib-arts field, and high school was the last time they had any contact with science. They don’t have the intelligence to understand it’s a scam.
We can lead people to knowledge, but we can’t make them think.

  7. There are 36 years (not counting 2016) of arctic sea ice extent data available from the satellite era. Yet we only use the period from 1981 to 2010 (20 years) to calculate the average extent. It seems pretty arbitrary to me. Why believe that this period represents the norm? Anyone know the answer?
Certainly if we recalculated the average using all 36 years, it would look very different. And the variance would be much greater as well. In other words, what exactly is normal?
That said, here are some predictions for the minimum which will be here in a few weeks: https://www.arcus.org/sipn/sea-ice-outlook/2016/august
Scrolling down the page toward the bottom are explanations by the various groups for there predictions. It appears that 2016 will be about the same as 2007, i.e., either the second or third lowest of the satellite era.

  8. “. Why believe that this period represents the norm? Anyone know the answer?”
Yup….money. CAGW proponents are not as stupid as the general population. They know how to work a scam and have money,i.e. grants, flowing into their back pockets. Plus the so called “education system” from kindergarten to PHD level know who butters their bread, and how to indoctrinate the kiddies to believe it.

  9. David, it doesn’t matter what period you use to estimate Arctic sea ice loss because the ice extent has been dropping consistently since satellite records began in 1978. We will have to wait another 20-30 years to see if the ice extent is increasing again.
The bigger question is why is there so much ice in the Antarctic.

  10. Global Warming can be 100% described as … statistical ju jitsu. Cherry picking data that creates an utterly FALSE narrative of the FACTS. We are graduating some really really smart chart-makers, and graph-makers … scientists ? Not so much.
Add to that some “expert” computer model builders … and voila ! Instant Global Warming.

  11. “The predominately left, low-info, misinformed voters…”
Er… the Left is the side with all the scientists on it. What do you have? A bunch of loud-mouthed radio talk show hosts and a Cheeto running for president.

  12. On Global warming:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCy_UOjEir0
From a scientist that knows how to do a proper experiment and how data is properly analysed (Wiki):
“The work that led to Giaever’s Nobel Prize was performed at General Electric in 1960. Following on Esaki’s discovery of electron tunnelling in semiconductors in 1958, Giaever showed that tunnelling also took place in superconductors, demonstrating tunnelling through a very thin layer of oxide surrounded on both sides by metal in a superconducting or normal state.[5] Giaever’s experiments demonstrated the existence of an energy gap in superconductors, one of the most important predictions of the BCS theory of superconductivity, which had been developed in 1957.[6] Giaever’s experimental demonstration of tunnelling in superconductors stimulated the theoretical physicist Brian Josephson to work on the phenomenon, leading to his prediction of the Josephson effect in 1962. Esaki and Giaever shared half of the 1973 Nobel Prize, and Josephson received the other half.[1]
Giaever’s research later in his career was mainly in the field of biophysics. In 1969, he researched Biophysics for a year as a fellow at Clare Hall, University of Cambridge, through a Guggenheim Fellowship, and he continued to work in this area after he returned to the US.[4]
He has co-signed a letter from over 70 Nobel laureate scientists to the Louisiana Legislature supporting the repeal of Louisiana’s creationism law, the Louisiana Science Education Act.[7]”

  13. “Er… the Left is the side with all the scientists on it.” Sure, it is mostly leftist government paid scientists and the Left loves controlling everyone’s lives. Sure fire combination. Real scientists like Giaever dispute the leftist snake oil.

  14. Ok, first of all, the dude is in his mid-80’s, so he’s hardly a working scientist. More importantly, he’s a physicist specializing in super conductivity. Just in case it’s not clear to you, physicists are not climate scientists. I mean, would you go to this dude and ask him to diagnose chest pains? No.
Some old fart who doesn’t actually work in the field is not exactly the expert voice you should be trusting, regardless of whether or not he snagged a Nobel Prize. He’s just another twit who’s too stupid to notice how the climate has changed in his own lifetime. So yeah… I think I’m going to listen to the tens of thousands of scientists who say he’s focusing on the wrong thing. Namely, satellite data, vs surface temperatures.
You guys are funny. Well, funny, sad, and dangerous.

  15. …”physicists are not climate scientists….”
And they’re not mathematicians or statisticians or chemists. No, none of these have any bearing on the matter because ….. they’re “climate scientists”. Hurrah!
What nonsense you spout. You have no clue.

  16. it should be known tha back in the 1970’s we were suppst to be getting Global Cooling and New Ice Age the same liberal rag(TIME)was yammering about it all just like their lying about Global Warming today

  17. “it should be known tha back in the 1970’s we were suppst to be getting Global Cooling and New Ice Age… blah, blah, blippity blah.”
Stop it. Just stop it. That theory was put out by a few scientists. It was quickly disproven. In no way it is comparable to the mountains of evidence collected that supports contemporary climate theory.
And honestly guys. You are literally so caught up in rightwing ideology that you are incapable of noticing how the climate has changed in your lifetime.
