I became a 49er fan back in the early 60’s when the NFL came to Canada, back when they were probably the league’s worst team. I stopped being a 49er fan when they screwed Alex Smith by not giving him the starter job back after being injured but not before leading them to an 11-0 start. The 49ers have sucked under Humperdink. Serves them right. Go Packers!

Good point, Scar. He is an entertainer, not an essential service, and the team owners get to decide who represents their brand. Interesting that he does not name another country that he would rather move to to attempt to make his $$$ or his point. What other country would he hold up as a shining example? Maybe one of the African countries he is so proud of having some ethnic connections to? And reading his history, andycanuck, one would think he would realize that the behavior of a black man put him in a very difficult position, and the long term actions and dedication of some white Americans saved his hide. Odd display of gratitude to the people and the country that gave him the platform he has.
They are paid to entertain. As soon as they become political they become a liability due to pissing off one side or the other. I wouldn’t be surprised to see contracts stipulate that athletes STFU about politics. It embarrasses the entire organization.
Being a QB means being a team leader. I would fire his ass immediately because I wouldn’t want his unacceptable attitude inspiring the rest of the team.
If Colin was let go and his teammates walked out in a show of support I would fire them all too and start from scratch. Integrity is worth it in the long run.

I grew up a Niner fan but they became like Fredo after the rainbow flag “Love Wins” cheering after Obergefell: dead to me. I openly cheer against them now and, for the first time since I was about 5, I really don’t care about the NFL season.

I think dissing the flag and saying that the richer majority of the country are bad goes a lot further than dissing the minority of over-reaching-power-tripping cops.
And looking at the numbers that Trump is getting to pack stadium-type venues who want America to be Great again is the NOW, and that was then. Times change and this is an election year, people are choosing up sides.

Don’t know if the man’s intentions are as simple as presented but this could be a strategic career move. If he was coming to the end of his playing career anyway then setting up a dismissal for something other than job performance could turn a boot to the head into a pat on the back. That is if he goes the political route and keeps to the Democrat tradition of using other’s oppression to pad their own pockets.

I agree, he has the right. But not the right to escape criticism and ridicule, or opprobrium from his employers. It’s like the flag-burning case. The issue is more complicated than Yes-No.
