  3. I call BS on this 69% drop. They did a lot of advertising for Justin and the LPC for and will be receiving a 10 figure sum over a 4 year contract.

During the last federal election Prime Minister Harper was continually blamed for the CBC’s failures … his response was to remind the CBC that their failures and declining revenues had everything to do with the CBC’s programming … nobody watches the CBC. Period. And T2’s response is to increase the CBC’s parliamentary appropriations to compensate for their own ineptitude and mismanagement. The CBC is run by amateurs and ideologues.

  8. Rex Murphy,HNIC, only reasons to watch CBC. Now they’ve lost HNIC, only Rex remains,unless you enjoy reruns of “Little Mosque…”,the unfunniest show on TV.
    And who T.F. told Rick Mercer he had a gift for comedy!? The guy is as funny as a slap shot to the cup.
    I still believe that one of the main reasons CBC was SO determined to not open the books is because most of their ad revenues come from Canadian Government advertising. How many broadcasts have we seen that are sponsored by the CAF, who usually aren’t recruiting?
    I believe the CBC is using sleight-of-hand bookkeeping to cover up how truly inept the management of the People’s Broadcaster actually is.
    We piss away over a billion Canada bucks a year on what is essentially a vanity boondoggle for the Big City arts crowd. It’s a shame lynching is out of fashion.

    The fact that the SAME budget deficit (~1.3B) year after year is a dead giveaway of theft. The nature of Broadcasting is not budget predictable. One year is never the same as the last… The costs to start any series is front loaded (high cost Set design etc) and then each subsequent episode is lower cost.
    The NBC Network found Theft in the Brooklyn Studios SOAP productions because each subsequent series of episodes were costing the same (they claimed the set was trashed & was rebuilt) The management were using their own off-site storage and reusing, but was billing for new design & construction…The bean counter (Manager level) who found the scam was promoted to President of NBC (Sherlock)…Brooklyn Studios was shut down.

  15. I’ve been saying for years here that losing HNIC would be the beginning of the end for CBC. At 69%, the loss is considerably greater than I had previously guessed. Particularly good is this bit:
    ““Its view is that the business model for TV is broken,” said a confidential briefing paper for Heritage Minister Mélanie Joly.”
    Oh, the irony. In CBC’s view, if Mother Corp is failing it must be because television as a whole is failing. They want us to quietly ignore the fact that it’s the state-owned media undertaking leftist propaganda model which is broken. CBC got OUTBID for HNIC broadcast rights. Aside from this year’s Cup, HNIC’s audience is larger than ever.

    Well, if it’s a wash, then CBC income dropping won’t need to be made up by the taxpayer. No new funding for the Ceeb!
