Do tell. Just 14% of the 1,027 adults surveyed thought a reason CEOs were getting more political was that they wanted to “do what is right for society.”

Which means that 86 percent of the population still recognizes whores for what they are.
No different than products that call themselves “green” … Simply pandering to what they perceive to be the “majority” opinion. In the case of adding “green” to your product label … no harm is done … it’s just laughable. But in the case of CEO’s bending hardcore leftist … it is much more serious. They are after TAXPAYER (government) funding and purchasing. THE GOVERNMENT (politicians) are their prime customers … the rest of us can shut up and pay taxes … and train our 3rd world replacements.
“and train our 3rd world replacements”
and that is the real reason rite there
I never used to be “anti-corporation” … but all these leftist CEO’s and their globalist priorities has rendered them DEAD to me. They are Enemies of the State. Enemies to our Constitution. Enemies of the American people.
Kenji, exactly.
Crony capitalism with a goodly dose of oligarchyism.
I do not buy products from a company if I become aware of their activism.
the LA Times, worse than the NY Times, both are liberal socialist rags with little of value on their pages.
‘I never used to be “anti-corporation”‘
Me too. A conundrum to be sure, a sentiment that more aptly resides in the playbook of Saul Alinsky. However, as the super-elites have cleverly discovered how to harness the gullibility of the left to bolster their own profits and exploitative motives, it’s now time for those of us who recognize this charlatanry to expose all the villains.
In 1975 Milton Friedman was quoted in Reason Magazine as saying that the two biggest threats to capitalism come from academics and businessmen. In 2005 at a Fraser Institute luncheon honouring the Nobel winning economist at age 93, I asked him if he still held the same view. He said he did and went on to say more or less that with academics, their antipathy to capitalism was obvious but with businessmen one had to look at the influence and constant lobbying that takes place in Washington from corporations if not explicitly writing the regulations accompanying laws then exerting inordinate effort in rent seeking. IOW, the worst thing one could do to the modern corporate world would be to give them actual capitalism where market entry and competition was unconstrained by the state.
I just love how society paints CEOs as a plague on society. In actual fact the job of a CEO is to look after the interests of the company, period. He/she has no duty to be climate change aware, socially just or any other of the so called “causes”.
as an investor I expect the CEO to run the company as efficiently as possible to bring me maximum return on my investment. If the bottom line is improved by paying some lip service to the “causes” then so be it.
I tend to be more inclined to invest in companies that don’t need a CEO to blabber nonsense to have a strong bottom line.
But I suppose that is the difference between you and me.
I don’t believe CEO’s are becoming more political, they are simply becoming more PC in their choices. Lobbying for one’s business/industry has been around since we invented the politician, and so has fake morality. Just like many businesses successfully use charities in their marketing, these decisions to chase social trends are mostly made for their own gains, specifically the great PR, generous write-offs and increased sales to the gullible.
BTW, if only 14% of people claim to buy into this PC marketing, how come these campaigns are so damn effective? I submit that a good portion of the 86% are liars or in self-denial when it comes to their PC consumer choices.
