20 Replies to “Insufferable Twits”

  1. But…but….but. Aren’t we always being told we need more rules and regs to help the economy adjust by these intolerable twits? I guess as long as the rules and regs add more bucks to their pockets, we will keep getting them. We need a revolution.

  2. It amuses me that the same pro-government types who shrug at the avalanche of government regulations, are the same people who treasure “creativity” and have even reorganized education via CommonCore to achieve that goal. Because they don’t work in the private sector where we have to deal with all this crap, they have no idea how these regulations are CRUSHING creativity. Typical unintended consequences.

  3. Buricrats must walnut sized brains or smaller just how stupid do buricrats have to be? making you sign a mountian of papers just to perhaps set up a birdbath in your yard

  4. Pournelle’s Iron Law of Bureaucracy states that in any bureaucratic organization there will be two kinds of people:
First, there will be those who are devoted to the goals of the organization. Examples are dedicated classroom teachers in an educational bureaucracy, many of the engineers and launch technicians and scientists at NASA, even some agricultural scientists and advisors in the former Soviet Union collective farming administration.
Secondly, there will be those dedicated to the organization itself. Examples are many of the administrators in the education system, many professors of education, many teachers union officials, much of the NASA headquarters staff, etc.
The Iron Law states that in every case the second group will gain and keep control of the organization. It will write the rules, and control promotions within the organization.
The primary goal of any government is to grow the bureaucracy.

  5. Well doing a search on Justice/laws, came up with 33 references to Towels. Obviously the Canadian Government needs to get off it’s ass and start making more towel regulations to catch up to the EU.

  6. Silence.
What is not permitted is Forbidden.
    Respect my authority.
Bureaucracy is the hum,an equivalent of fire.
Kept small and controlled you can do many fine things.
Unchecked you are destitute in a heartbeat.

  7. Do not bend, fold, spindle or mutilate. If you know what I am talking about.

  8. Top down totalitarianism…..pure and simple. Time for it to stop. In the words of Frederic Bastiat, “If the natural tendencies of mankind are so bad that it is not safe to permit people to be free, how is it that the tendencies of these organizers are always good? Do not the legislators and their appointed agents also belong to the human race? Or do they believe that they themselves are made of a finer clay than the rest of mankind?”

  9. Great quote Joey.
Atlas Shrug should be required watching for….everyone.

  10. “The primary goal of any government is to grow the bureaucracy.”
The goal of any bureaucracy is to grow the bureaucracy.
    Just to simplify things.

  11. A buddy of mine went to the UK to work on a project a few years ago.
He came back shaking his head at the rules the Company had.
Here are a couple I recall.
All coffee cups are required to have lids.
You MUST hold the handrail when traversing the stairs.
Treating everyone like a child is the new normal.

  12. And there in a nutshell is the true reason for regulations. Let’s face it, without these mountains of regulations and small armies of people to enforce them, governments would have to find meaningful work for it’s citizens.
Without employment or a livelihood, the population, angry and bitter , would rapidly turn on its erstwhile masters and bring back novel forms of entertainment, such as Wednesday riots, Monday lootings, and weekend, “let’s gather in the town square and chop off a head or two”, picnics.

  13. I have asked this question many times…..just what can you do in Canada that does not have a rule, regulation or law surround it? the correct answer is nothing.

  14. “Or do they believe that they themselves are made of a finer clay than the rest of mankind?” ”
The question never crosses their superior minds.

  15. Buricrats sit in big fancy offices behind big big desks all day creating idiotic regulations for everybody but themselves to floow

  16. My disenchantment with the Conservatives began with their consumer protection bill. If you check the riders you will find the phrase “incorporation by reference” referring to the bureaucracy’s ability to include all the EU, UN nonsense into our regulatory environment. Not with Gazzetting, or debate, but by stealth for “trade” with a no recourse for those affected. It was NOT done because they weren’t warned, rather it was done with eyes wide open. Granted the new gang is orders of magnitude worse, but if the destination is the same what difference does it make?
    BTW John Robertson…excellent post!!

  17. “The primary goal of any government is to grow the bureaucracy.”
Absolutely! An expansion of size, influence, and authority.
