Standard and Poor’s has downgraded Alberta’s credit rating for the second time in five months.
The bond rating agency has dropped Alberta’s rating from AA+ to AA. It last downgraded Alberta in December when it removed the province’s long-lauded triple-A rating.

…and it is being run into the ground by one of Canada’s (2) Marxist parties. At least in the United States, we only have (1) Marxist Party and with luck it will out of office come 1/20/2017 – Canada has a long way to go down with a Unicorn believer in Ottawa and lunatic lefty women in BC, AB and ON.
You have a great country, I visit often and I hope you pull out of it soon.
The only government program Red Rachel gutted was firefighting. Funny, if not so tragic.
It’s a perfect storm right now in Alberta. A Premier and a Prime Minister that both hate Albertans. No end in sight, it’s beginning to look like a merger between the PC’s and Wild Rose is not going to happen and some talk about a third party in the works.
She thought that fighting forest fires was unnecessary because they’re caused by “climate change” anyway and the Dippers are dealing with that by bankrupting us with carbon taxes.
Red rach got counselled on that pick. In kananaskis they are building new stuff coz all the “services” are crowded into one bldg.
Ask any honest healthcare worker, they will say lots of waste in system. And they can’t even try to find “token” savings?
Sad. Prov spending only to get worse with wildfire, and exodus. It’s happening.
Edmonton’s socked in with forest fire smoke right now. Visibility’s down to about 1 km. Thanks, Rachel.
The problem is constantly spending everything they take in. Notley is dealing with the results of that. We have the same problem in Saskatchewan.
Can’t wait to see how Nutley the Red spins this one.
A natural consequence of statism/socialism. More borrowing, coupled with anti-growth and productivity killing policies and attitudes destroying confidence, leads always to this obvious conclusion and the inevitable doubling down on failure to total collapse.
Gotta love the Dem lady on Fox last night, a Bernie supporter, saying there were “good” socialist states like Sweden and Norway, so why talk about the disasters, trying to make the exception prove some rule.
The fact they’re not doing better doesn’t deter the socialist apologists:
“The Swedish Institute of Trade reported in 2002 that “the median household income in Sweden at the end of the 1990s was the equivalent of $26,800, compared with a median of $39,400 for U.S. households”. If Sweden were introduced to the U.S. as a new state, it would rank as the poorest according to these standards. This is in light of the fact that these numbers are gross values – before taxes – and Sweden has the highest taxes in the world. The same report also shows that Swedes fare lower than the lowest American socio-economic class, working-class black males.”

Does the Alberta government wish to be thought of as the Venezuela of the north, except it doesn’t pump oil?
Probably like Joe Ceci. It’s the lenders that have it all wrong, not the Alberta provincial government.
Then again, Maduro blames Venezuela’s economic disaster on the U. S.
We must never forget that socialism is perfect and does everything right. Any failure can and must be blamed on someone else, whether it is a lack of dedication on the part of the proletariat or plots by external enemies.
Jeez, when I went to school ratings went A to F. The really smart girls sometimes went into the ethereal A+ region.
The Standard and Poor’s guys could learn from my old teachers rather than trying to confuse everyone with triple A’s and the like.
I would have been tickled pink with a AA in math!
Hey CRB.
Here’s how it works.
AA+
AA
A
Ontario
Thus endeth the lesson.
Don’t worry Alberta. Notley and her merry band of socialists will just increase the number of Albertans working for government to combat unemployment. This will increase wealth in the province, and all will be well, as far as lefty economics is concerned.
Yep nothernont I agree. EVERYONE should get a great government job with all the perks and trimmings! What could possibly go wrong? (that was, of course, sarcasm)
Alberta’s so prosperous that the provincial government can establish a ministry for the status of women (because we have to “build feminism”, don’t we?) but the budget for fighting forest fires can be drastically cut.
Maybe I should start hording toilet paper and cooking oil as, evidently, Notley’s Destructive Party wants to make Alberta into Venezuela North.
“The bond rating agency has dropped Alberta’s rating from AA+ to AA.”
Holy SHIT!!! Alberta is about to become like Saskatchewan pre-Brad Wall!?!
Feck ME!!!??!
Unlike Saskatchewan, Alberta won’t be doing the Socialist Suck-Ass for 18 years.
Albertans already have a Conservative or at least Populist Alternative to Progressives, unlike Saskatchewan which will be doing the Harper Barnyard Shuffle as soon as Brad Wall is done getting his.(Wall has been sucking up to wind/solar interests from day-one and his building of a Super-Stadium for the Welfare Queen Roughriders is just so Bread-and-Circuses)
Wall is *Klein-lite.
When will Saskies be getting their Petro Rebates and their private liquor stores?
*Yes Klein was a PC, but there wasn’t an alternative conservative party.
Furthermore, Klein would be rejected by the current Alberta PCs as racist, sexist, uber-fiscal conservative since he not only balanced the budget, he made government deficit budgets illegal and he did it at $30/pbl oil when Alberta had shifted to majority heavy oil in the year 2000.
Why oh WHY does SDA Kate taint and paint the WildRose Party with the headline Red Rose?
It’s Probably Notling.
Hey Steve – the problem with any potential merger between the Wildrose and the PCs is the ‘P in PCs’. The ‘P’ is for progressive and if you are comfortable voting for a progressive then you must be comfortable voting Liberal or NDP for that matter. Progressives, Liberals and NDPs are all on the same path. The only difference is in the time of arrival – in the realm of Oblivion.
Of course it is a calculating move to cut firefighting. Just an Eco-lib creating a self-fulfilling prophesy of Global Warmism … that says wildfires will become more and more devastating in the wake of Global Warming. So, the Eco “guardians” set the fires … then watch them burn. Voila ! They were right all along.
Idiots ! Dangerous psychopathic Idiots !
(because we have to “build feminism”, don’t we?)
Nope. We feminists have been so successful in our quest to be equal to men that now we don’t even need our own bathrooms. There’s nothing more to build. We have reached the ultimate state of utopia.
That utopia allows our feminist-in-chief to manhandle or elbow MPs in the House of Commons.
But . . . But . . . But . . . we’re equal so we should just suck it up and take it like, well, a man!
I am a Canadian living in Oslo for the last 2 years. The prices here are sick! You pay for everything and taxes on taxes.. .4L mug of beer in a pub is 15+ can dollars.
And it is socialism funded by capitalism which is the Oil and gas. With the slump in that sector the country is really hurting now like never before..
