In Canada, the outcome of adopting the UN declaration may be less bloody, but it surely won’t be free from conflict. Until the Trudeau government came along, Ottawa’s major concern about endorsing the declaration was that it could be seen as giving First Nations (and possibly Métis people) the right to veto any development that affects them. Given how difficult it already is for ordinary industrial projects to navigate the objections of special interest groups, including First Nations, that’s an especially well-founded concern. The prime minister has already frustrated the energy sector by adding extra complications to the federal review process to indulge the green lobby. By endorsing the UN’s declaration, he may enhance his personal brand of being soft on issues where the Tories came off steely, but he will also certainly make it more difficult to get things built in this country.
And this is a surprise how? Society is being quickly fragmented by the majority bowing at all times to all the demands of any and all minorities, even the ridiculous. The ultimate result of this train wreck will be anarchy because all people are ultimately unique individuals, and no two people will always agree on every single issue. The final minority is the individual.
and to think if Harper had not been such a control freak this could have been avoided.
So the indigenous people of Europe have a lot of rights. Why don’t they ever exercise them?
Any country implementing the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples is asking for endless strife.
We solved all this long ago. Can there really be any debate what this from Treaty 8 means
“said Indians DO HEREBY CEDE, RELEASE, SURRENDER AND YIELD UP to the Government of the Dominion of Canada, for Her Majesty the Queen and Her successors for ever, all their rights, titles and privileges whatsoever, to the lands included within the following limits”
The contentious issue today involves continued Indian use of undeveloped land.
“And Her Majesty the Queen HEREBY AGREES with the said Indians that they shall have right to pursue their usual vocations of hunting, trapping and fishing throughout the tract surrendered as heretofore described, subject to such regulations as may from time to time be made by the Government of the country, acting under the authority of Her Majesty, and saving and excepting such tracts as may be required or taken up from time to time for settlement, mining, lumbering, trading or other purposes.”
Note that this use can be changed by regulation and Indians have no continuing interest where settlement, mining, lumbering and trading is concerned. It does not give Indians any veto and I suspect that the best they should get is compensation for the value of decreased hunting, trapping, or fishing which would be virtually nothing.
60Something, what are you talking about? If you really are 60something, one would expect that you might have learned a bit in that time. Your ignorance is painful.
Harper was painted as a control freak because the liberal media (you know, your beloved CBC) as well as any others, felt this was the best way to get Canadians against the conservatives. There was a modest growth in conservatism, but by painting Mr. Harper as a control freak, they were better able to control the comparison between he and say, Hitler/Bush/any other dictator reviled in history.
The operative wording is – ” subject to such regulations as may from time to time be made by the government of the country ” .
The government has the authority to stop hunting and fishing during restricted seasons for wildlife protection – so, why do they refuse to honour the treaties original intent and allow them to ignore hunting and fishing regulations ?
“Control freak” is from the lexicon of the radical left……It is something that they themselves crave. In fact, the left DEMANDS control.
People who can’t control their own lives often compensate for that by trying to control the livers of others.
I’ve been saying for years, the goal of the loony left and environutters, is to turn Canuckistan into a giant park, outside of the established urban areas.
Adopting the Useless Narrative’s Indigenous policy, basically completes the process. Welcome to the new giant park!
Are you into the sauce early today?
Or do you buy into the LIEberal media narrative on a regular basis, without taking a sober look at their propaganda?
Oh yeah, answered my question!
Aboriginal control over development is a really nice step backward in the evolution of man. What’s next ? Will we dispose of all medical technology and pharmaceuticals … because it’s not natural ? Well I suppose the anti-vaccination dimwits have already started that. So let’s put our future in the hands of people who still shake rattles to wake up the gods … I guess this is what the leftists call “progressive” ?
“and to think if Harper had not been such a control freak this could have been avoided.”
Says it all. Turdeau deux will keep trying to make EVERYBODY happy….and anybody over 45 knows how that turns out. But hey….he is still grinning the grin and happy!!!
To Trudeau, that’s a feature, not a bug.
There is a bright side.
We will be forced to abolish the Apartheid System of Canada.
And to declare war on the UN, or at least outlaw them in Canada.
meanwhile God Help all natives, Walking Eagle will sing to them endlessly and Iran will protect their human rights.
This situation is so farcical that no fiction writer would have considered it.
Ah the principle of unintended consequences will in the end be the result of this.
Due to the exponential growth of social engineering that PM Selfieschtick as going to “invest” in the cost is going to exceed what the tax base can accommodate. Thus leaving no option but to borrow to tge point where…just as it happened before…to put the country in a position where the lenders will threaten the nation with recievership unless payment is made in capital or asset.
This would then obligate the government of the day to cut hard and deep as the taxes that could have gone to fund the government was severely curtailed by all the restrictions that development was burdened with.
Yeah, they just put the golden goose on the butcher block.

No big deal, nobody with any sense is investing here with the Shiny Pony running the show anyway.

Ah Yes. They will learn the hard way. The very first thing I did way back when I retired, was to take every penny that was in CPP and pull it out and re-invest. After only 12 years, I know sit back and have a nice $6900/month…tax FREE…deposited into my bank account. CRA has tried to come after me, and my lawyer,(who is a vet) has asked them quite nicely if the words “pound salt” mean anything. You see,the goons running CRA and all gubermint departments hate it when the hoi polli start learning about and get in on “their” money schemes. Take your bucks off-shore,legally, and the CRA is screwed. I have a neighbour who worked 30+ years, paid into CPP all that time, and gets 1,128/month. I just tell him yeah, you pay the other 75% to some guy in gubermint to run it for you. Oh. He does can a refund of the taxes he pays on his sum,at 15%. I just ask him who does he think gets the the rest? Not a clue.
When was it possible to take out your CPP pot of money?
I would love to see all the socialists and their fellow travellers freeze and or starve to death as a result of their policies, unfortunately the idiocy they believe has an effect on all of us.
“When was it possible to take out your CPP pot of money?”
Just some old fart off their meds. Be tolerant.
