A devastating fire, 80,000 people evacuated, thousands of homes and buildings destroyed.
On a special edition of Beyond the News, Brian Lilley brings you the latest political reaction to the fires plus brings you the stories of those evacuated, stories of journalists on the scene and the fundraising push to help those in need.
Interviews with Ezra Levant, Sheila Gunn Reid, MP Chris Warkentin, Lorne Gunter, CTV’s Bill Fortier, evacuees Glen Stromquist and Odette Legault plus Brian Jones an all around good samaritan.

Well it would seem the following song may be appropriate…
Midnight Oil – Beds Are Burning

The time has come
To say fair’s fair
To pay the rent
To pay our share
The time has come
A fact’s a fact
It belongs to them
Let’s give it back
How can we dance
When our earth is turning?
How do we sleep
While our beds are burning?
Cheers

Want to donate, but am wary of giving to the Red Cross. Too many stories out of the Calgary/High River flood of 2013 which said not all money pledged to that disaster went there. The story went that the Red Cross gives out emergency aid only, with long-term going elsewhere, and that a fair few dollars people thought were being pledged to flood victims ended up in a Red Cross pot for disaster relief elsewhere. Would be very glad to hear that these stories have no credence, and that all the money people gave for flood relief did (with deductions for appropriate staff pay and administration) go to those in need in Calgary/High River, especially if their needs were long-term.

Lived in Beacon Hill before coming south. My whole area is gone. Was there in the fire from ten years ago.Mother Nature can be a real pain.
