  5. I gotta say I’ve changed my mind about Mike Duffy and agree with the 100% not guilty verdict.
    A case of when in Rome do as the Romans do, ie he took his cue from other senators doing the same thing. Dealing with complex and contradictory rules and no means to get clarification. All pumped up by the media frenzy, a case of them turning on one of their own in a manner of speaking.
    And I remember and enjoyed his commentaries when he was a reporter on the hill and saw that he did have the straight goods.
    So there it is SDA, too little too late, but also better late than never.

  6. So my census form arrived, I figured I better comply or they could send police to my home to take me into custody at gunpoint. I went online and, early in, they ask if I will permit them to release my data 75 or 90 years from now, something like that, to researchers/academic a-holes, I checked ‘no’ and that was pretty much the end of my census. So, maybe if you want to avoid the long census, try checking ‘no’ and keep your data confidential.

    Another thing I’ve noticed over the years. The number of headlines (click bait I guess) that say X destroyed Y, who wasn’t.
    Recently I read that a loud Trump supporter “absolutely destroyed” Cruz with his question to Cruz near a Cruz event. I watched. Not even nearly. Cruz was calm, made excellent points and asked questions of the protester who came off as a certifiable moron, sans answers.

What drove this whole episode was a media frenzy abetted by the leftists wanting to get something on Harper. The incident added to the “corrupt government” charges that influenced the election, but were never true. What folly. Canadians have been duped, and now they are stuck with a particularly incompetent PM and a government that will continue to exploit Canadians with unhelpful things like a carbon tax.

Frankly, it does not particularly bother me when they abandon their more stupid promises (that would be quite a few), but it does confirm that their election campaign was planned to manipulate people. Have they reopened those Veteran’s offices yet? Another stupid move. Court Challanges — an abuse program for sure. Their election platform was essentially “If Stephen Harper has done something you don’t like, vote for us and we will undo it.” (e.g. Transparency for unions, First Nations). Otherwise no one knows what they stand for.

    Ethanol subsidies are in the news as the result of a CBC investigation. It found the biggest corporate donor to the Ontario Liberal Party is an ethanol company that has received more than $160 million from taxpayers since 2007.

  15. The permission question is the final question on both the long and short form census. If you got it right away then you were already assigned the short form. I got the long form which was annoying but still only took about 20 minutes to complete.

  17. So the general consensus among the facebook posts I’ve seen about the census is that the LIVs were under the impression that the entire census was scrapped by that wickedly evil Harper. Elsewhere, on the internets other LIVs are complaining about the intrusive questions on the long form one. There’s no winning on this issue. Next time we’ve got to just pick our battles. Completely eliminate the GST and cut income taxes and spending as the first priority and let the other issues slide. Whatever is done has to be permanent this time.
