Hmmm… let’s see…Nenshi calls CEO Travis Kalanick, 39, a ‘dick’. In calling him that, I assume he would include Garrett Camp, 37, (a Calgary product) co-founder of UBER under the same classification. UBER, founded in 2009 and active in 300+ cities, was recently valued at $51 billion and both Kalanick and Camp’s personal net worth at $6 billion each. Nenshi, 44, not so much. First elected mayor in 2010, Nenshi has personified the very descriptor he used to label Kalanick. He’s quick to call names – ‘bully’, ‘jerk’ and now ‘dick’, but his ego prevents him from seeing that he displays the very same behaviour he purports to despise.

Nenshi is going after Uber to protect the city’s taxi oligopoly from open competition.
Since most taxi drivers are Mohammedans, so he is making sure that his core political constituency is also being protected from competition.
Taxis have special reserved street parking areas in the downtown, Uber is not permitted to use them even though Uber provides the same service as taxis.

It’s been that way since Ralph Klein was elected in 1980. He was followed by Duerr, Bronconnier and now Nenshi. Liberals all.
I know I have beat this to death on this blog for years. Alberta is as progressive as any other province in this country. Has been for decades going back to the late 60’s when lougheed showed up.
Not to worry. The good citizens of Calgary will give him another loan when the sh*t hits the fan on this one. Seems that he is good at secret apologies.

The skills, accomplishments and education of our current politicians, local, provincial and federal is quite dismal. I think for democracy to continue to work, we are going to have to look at some kind of qualification system for these people that run for office. Our Prime Minister is a collage drop-out, our NDP crew in Alberta is joke right across the board. It’s so scary that these clowns are creating budgets, public policy, laws and regulations, when in reality, most of them couldn’t get a job a medium size business or Starbucks.
