  20. Yes, the final vote was Pro 55%, Con 45%, but the Con shifted the vote 22% from an original 23%, not 33%. Not trying to be picky here, but it’s an important statistic since it represents the largest shift in the history of the Munk debates.
    Mark Steyn’s performance in particular was a thing of beauty. I knew the good guys had it when Simon Schama was reduced to reading a poem by John Donne as his closing statement.

    When I first read this it didn’t make sense to me. I could see Chicago being nicknamed “Chirac” after the former French president if the issue were municipal corruption, but not on the basis of crime (Paris has a much lower rate of crime).
    Then – duh. Sudden realization: it’s not “Chirac” at all, it’s “ChIRAQ”.
    I need another coffee I guess.

However, he said, the government never promised to bring in refugees only from the refugee camps. Mr. Wrzesnewskyj said that the key deciding factor for the government was to select the most vulnerable and the ones who did not pose any security threat.”
    It seems the only threat they faced was a rent increase:
    “Martin Bolduc, vice-president of the programs branch of Canada Border Services Agency, told the House Public Safety and National Security Committee on Feb. 18 that a vast majority of the 21,000 Syrian refugees who had arrived in Canada by that time were not selected from refugee camps administered by the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR). But Mr. Bolduc did not release a breakdown.”
    “Most of the 21,000 refugees who have made it to our borders were not housed in camps,” Mr. Bolduc told committee members. “They had been living in theatre for a number of years, renting apartments, so I just wanted that for the precision. This also provides an opportunity for the cities battalion of taxpayer supported social workers to strut their stuff, moving schizophrenics, forcibly if necessary, from the street into shelters.
